I love to give homemade gifts. Creating something special for someone is a gift from the heart! I love the ocean and have always enjoyed combing the beach for sea glass and shells. My sister and I made some gifts from shells we picked along the shore.
I had so much fun trying different patterned paper and napkins. The great part about using your DSP is you can create a matching card, gift, and/or box.
Stampin’ Up! offers fun and FUNctional packaging, so you can wrap it up in style! I used a clear acetate card box (#144628) to gift the sailboat shell. I wrapped it in tissue paper and placed the coordinating card in the front of the box for a quick birthday gift. This simple card design can be used with any DSP. I used denim ribbon and the Smooth Sailing Dies to tie it all together.
The Mini Paper Pumpkin Boxes (#153069) are the perfect size for large shells. I decorated the top of the box in matching DSP. I stamped (and punched) the sentiment from Friends Are Like Seashells to put inside the box. It’s the perfect saying to go with these shells when gifting to a friend!
I have several of these shells throughout my home. They have so many uses! You can put them by the sink in the kitchen or bath, or in the bedroom to hold rings/jewelry/trinkets. You can keep one by the stove for a spoon rest and/or teabag holder. They also make a great decor piece on a coffee table, end table, etc.
I used some paper napkins to make table favors to coordinate with my place settings!
You can put some after dinner mints in the shells and wrap them in the printed gusseted cellophane bags (#151312) for your guests to take home or give as a hostess gift.
The best thing about this project is my sister and I enjoyed the oysters, clams, and stuffed quahogs for dinner before using the shells to create gifts for friends & family. How great is that?!!!

So fun! I could totally see using small ones to hold a tea bag. When I saw the sea glass pebbles I thought of you. You could use a shell to keep them in as well. Just tons of uses and so fun to boot.

I loved the shells, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for you to do a tutorial on those. If you can’t, just some explanatory directions on how you painted and adhered the paper or napkins would truly be appreciated by more than just me! Hugs from Maryland.
Thanks Gail. I painted the inside of the shells with white acrylic paint, adhered the DSP with Mod Podge, and painted the back and rim of the shells with Gold or silver acrylic paint.

I’ve read how you adhered the paper to the shell but did you put varnish or anything on top of the paper? It looks so shiny. Also how do you get the paper to not buckle inside the shape of the shell?
