Shine A Light On Peace for the Pals Blog Hop

December All that Sparkles and Shines post graphic

Welcome to the Pals monthly blog hop. We’re so glad you’re here! December is time for glitz and bling with  “All that Sparkles & Shines”. Today we feature projects that sparkle or shine. Maybe even a little of both.

You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

I live in Maryland not far from the Antietam National Battlefield. One of our family traditions is to visit the battlefield the first weekend in December for their Annual Memorial Illumination. It is the largest memorial illumination in all of North America and this year marked their 30th anniversary. Each luminary (over 23,000) represents a soldier’s sacrifice during the bloodiest one-day battle of the Civil War. (I’m a bit of a history buff.) There are no words adequate to describe the event…to see these hallowed grounds lit up is unbelievably surreal!

Antietam National Battlefield

I was inspired by my recent visit to create this set of luminaries.

Stampin Up Large Letter Framelits Peace Luminaries for Christmas Home decor idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

These are simple to make. For each one I cut a 5 x 8 1/4 piece of Garden Green cardstock and scored each at 2, 4, 6, and 8. I used the new Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies (available Jan. 3rd in the Occasions Catalog) to cut the shape out for my light to shine through. I was so excited when I saw these dies in the new catalog! You get 13 different sizes which feature stitching inside and outside the frame! How cool is that?!

Stampin Up Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I cut my vellum at 1 7/8 x 3 1/2 and adhered it to the back with glue dots. I cut the letters from the Dashing Along Designer Series Paper using the Large Letter Framelits and adhered these to the vellum. I used Tear & Tape along the 1/4 edge to secure together.

A battery operated tealight fits inside for a nice glow. I added some Gold Metallic-Edge Ribbon to tie it together for that “sparkle and shine”.

You can make these to give as a gift or decorate your mantle or bookcase. These make the perfect night lite for a child’s bedroom (you could spell out the child’s name) or any room (use any die).

Here’s a few more photos of the Illumination.

I am thankful for our men and women in the Armed Forces throughout the world.  My thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their lives, so the world may someday enjoy world peace.

X is for BoX in a Card

Welcome to my ABC “Sale-A-Bration” Series! This series showcases products from the 2018 Occasions catalog and Sale-A-Bration brochures. I have been wanting to make today’s fun card for awhile now.  My son’s birthday is next month and we will be celebrating a little early when we get together for Easter next weekend.  My husband and I like to give our children “an experience” for their birthday and this year I have a fun event planned, something I know he has not done before.  This boX in a card is perfect to put a clue to his gift.

Stampin Up Happy Birthday Thinlits and True Gentleman masculine birthday card and gift box idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I used the True Gentleman Designer Series Paper for his card and box.  I absolutely love the plaid and love that the whole paper pack has a masculine feel! This fun card is really much easier to create than it looks. The card base is a standard 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4.  Next, you need to cut out the section for the box to sit.  Keep your card folded and with the fold at the top, line up the card with the right side at 1 inch and cut from the top down to 2 inches.  Then move the card so it is lined up at the 2 1/2 inch mark on the left side and cut from the top down to the 2 inch point.

Turn your card to the side and cut between the lines to remove the 2 inch square (which is actually 2 x 4 when you open it).

To make the box you need a 3 x 3 piece of coordinating cardstock and a 6 x 6 piece of DSP.  Score the DSP at 2 inches on all 4 sides.  Trim in on the score lines on two opposite sides.  Apply glue in the 4 corners,  bring the middle flaps up, the back flaps forward, and the front flaps go back last.  This way you have smooth corners on the front of your box.

Stampin Up True Gentleman Designer Series Paper to make gift box

To make the lid, score just under 1/2 inch on all 4 sides. Trim in on score lines on two opposite ends, notch the corners, and fold on the score lines.  Apply glue to the four corners and adhere to form the lid.

I added a 1 3/4 x 5 1/2 strip of coordinating DSP to a layer of Gold Foil and adhered it to the front of my card.  I cut the Happy Birthday Thinlits in Very Vanilla cardstock and did a little “surgery”‘ with my paper snips to separate the words before adhering to the card.

I added some Gold Natural Trim to the box before placing it in the card.  I just love how the box sits in the card!

Stampin Up Happy Birthday Thinlits and True Gentleman masculine birthday card and gift box idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

This would be a great way to gift cash for someone or put a small (light) gift or candy inside.  I printed out the reservation for our adventure.  He is going to be so surprised as he is planning to take me out for dinner for my birthday and I am going to give this to him after dinner.  Everyone else is planning to meet at the event and surprise him.  He does not read my blog so as long as his cousins don’t slip and tell I should be able to pull this adventure off!

Stampin Up Happy Birthday Thinlits and True Gentleman masculine birthday card and gift box idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

The sentiment I used on the inside is from Birthday Wit Stamp Set.  I had to use this one for my son! Several years ago he came home and I was wrapping a gift for my husband for Valentine’s Day.  My son wanted to know what it was and I told him a paper shredder.  His comment was , “Oh boy, nothing says I Love You like a paper shredder!”  (Just to let you know, my husband loved his paper shredder and actually wore it out from using it all the time!  He even went out it replaced it the same day it broke!  I’d say he loves it!!)

Stampin Up Happy Birthday Thinlits and True Gentleman masculine birthday card and gift box idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

The sentiment is stamped on a 2 x 5 1/4 piece of Very Vanilla.  You could just as easily stamp a vertical stamp.

Stampin Up Happy Birthday Thinlits and True Gentleman masculine birthday card and gift box idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Did you notice any changes here?  I started out thinking I was going to use Tranquil Tide for my son’s card then decided I liked Night of Navy better with the DSP I chose.  Now I have my next card almost done!

Hope you have an eXcellent day!

T is for Tutti-Frutti Treats

Welcome to my ABC “Sale-A-Bration” Series! This series showcases products from the 2018 Occasions catalog and Sale-A-Bration brochures. Today it is all about family, friends, and fruit with the Tutti -frutti Suite.

Growing up I would go blueberry picking with my dad and 5 siblings.  My dad would tie buckets around our waste so both hands were free for faster picking! My mom would  bake homemade pie and all kinds of blueberry treats. YUM! I’m not much of a pie baker but I do enjoy making homemade breads and jam.  Strawberry season will be here before you know it and I love to make strawberry jam! The Tutti-Frutti suite makes it quick & easy to create tags and gift enclosures to go with homemade goodies (or store bought favorites)!

Stampin Up Tutti-frutti hello friend note card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

This little gift card is for Sister Corda’s roommate.  After Sister Corda passed away, I have been spending Monday evenings with her roommate.  We chat, have dinner together, and watch a few episodes of Longmire on Netflix. Sister Al loves blueberry jam and enjoys some with her bagel every morning.  I bought some of my favorite Stonewall Kitchen Wild Maine Blueberry Jam to give to her.

Stampin Up Tutti-frutti hello friend 3 x 3 note card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I love to make note cards to go with gifts. To make this simple note card start with a 3 x 6 piece of cardstock and score it at 3″.  I added a layer of Night of Navy cardstock that is a 2 3/4″ square. Then I added a piece of  2 x 2 5/8  DSP and some gingham ribbon. The sentiment is from the Fruit Basket Stamp Set, cut out with the new 1 1/8 Scallop Circle Punch, and layered on a 1 1/4 punched Night of Navy circle. I popped the sentiment up with a Stampin’ Dimensional.  Quick & easy!

Here’s a quick 1 minute video showing how to make another quick & easy 3 x 3 card using products from the Tutti-frutti Suite!

I will be heading to Hartford, Connecticut in two weeks for Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage convention. I can’t wait to get together with “my people”!  Six of us rented a historic home just outside of Hartford so we could be together for a little extended vacation.  We are planning to stamp, shop, sightsee, and I’m sure chat until the wee hours of the morning.  It is always so much fun when we get together! I made these little gifts using the Tutti-frutti Designer Series Paper for my “Stampin’ Sisters”.

Stampin Up Tutti-Frutti Designer Series Paper gift idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I got this idea from Sam Donald (Pootles.co.uk).  I changed mine up a bit and used coordinating DSP rather than washi tape. I bought several different fruit pens and had so much fun making these that I just couldn’t stop!  I wanted to try different color combinations and ribbons. I ordered the fruit pens from Amazon.  I love the way they coordinate with our DSP! I love the pens with the bauble fruit charms (above) but I also love the way the DSP and ribbon pictured below can serve double duty as a  bookmark. Two gifts in one!

Stampin Up Tutti-Frutti Designer Series Paper bookmark & gift idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Stampin Up Tutti-Frutti Designer Series Paper bookmark & gift idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I love how they turned out! For the first set of pens (with the charms) I used a smidge smaller than 2 x 8 cardstock, 1 3/4 x 6 DSP  in the center, and (2) 1 3/4 x 3/4 strips on the top and bottom. These fit in Stampin’ Up!’s  2 x 8 Cellophane Bags.  You get 50 sturdy bags for just $3.00!

Stampin Up Tutti-Frutti Designer Series Paper gift idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I used a sightly smaller piece of cardstock for the other pens (a smidge less than 2 x 7) and cut 3/4″ off the top of the cellophane bags.  The DSP measures the same. I used the 1/4″ hole punch to punch an opening for the ribbon. I fussy cut the fruit from the DSP.  (You could stamp and punch fruit using the Fruit Basket stamp set and Itty Bitty Punch Pack.) I used glue dots to adhere the fruit pieces to the cellophane bags.

Would you like to receive one of these Tutti-Frutti pens? I am sending one to everyone who places an online order of $50 or more with me in March.  It’s my “party favor” and will be included in my birthday party thank you kit for ordering this month! I appreciate each and every order and love sending little thank you gifts and card kits to show my appreciation. I will also be giving one away to a random winner on my blog.  Leave a comment sharing something you enjoy doing with friends or family members and you could be the lucky winner.

Yesterday I showcased all 7 suites from the Occasions catalog and asked my readers to share which one was their favorite suite.  If you missed that post you can view it HERE. From the comments it looks like Petal Passion is the most popular for it’s versatility and great sentiments!  I enjoyed reading all the wonderful comments about the other suites as well.  Like me, some of you liked several and have a hard time choosing a favorite!

I have been making so many projects lately using the products in the Tutti-Frutti Suite! You can view previous projects I have shared HERE or HERE.

I is for Itty Bitty Fruit Punch Pack

Welcome to my ABC “Sale-A-Bration” Series! This series showcases products from the 2018 Occasions catalog and Sale-A-Bration brochures. Today I’m sharing a bundle from the Occasions catalog that includes the Itty Bitty Punch Pack. I love punches and this adorable punch pack coordinates with the Fruit Basket Stamp Set. Here’s a look at the bundle.

Stampin Up Fruit Basket Bundle - For inspirational ideas and ordering visit my blog, www.juststampin.com -Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I love fresh fruit!  We have several orchards nearby where you can pick your own apples in the fall as well as blueberries and strawberries in the spring. We also have a Peach Festival and other “fruit” events in the area so I knew I would get a lot of use out of this bundle. I found some smoothie mixes at the grocery store the other day and picked up a few for my my family and to give as little gifts. I made some fun “envelope cards” to hold the smoothie mixes.

Stampin Up Envelope Punch Board and Fruit Basket Bundle card ideas to hold treats - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

It’s so easy to make any size envelope using the Envelope Punch Board!  All the directions are right on the board (for 66 different sizes) so you never have to worry about what size paper you need or where to punch and score. I started by measuring my smoothie mix package which measured 4 1/2 x 6.  I checked the EPB (Envelope Punch Board) to see what size paper I needed (8 1/2 x 8 1/2) and where to start to punch & score (3 3/4).

After I punched and scored all sides I was ready to embellish. The Tutti-frutti 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper was perfect to go with my fruit smoothies. It is so easy to pick my cardstock colors from the DSP. I adhered my DSP to a layer of cardstock then popped it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals on the front of the envelope card. I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits and Layering Ovals Framelits for the sentiment layers. I stamped the sentiment close to the bottom to leave room for my ribbon in the middle.  I stamped the fruit twice, once in each color, then punched them out with the Itty Bitty Fruit Punches. I wanted the add the leaf layer on top with a Glue Dot to give it a little dimension. I wrapped the ribbon around the envelope and tied a bow.  The ribbon keeps the envelope closed and just slides off to open. I added a stamped layer on the inside which is a hidden surprise under the smoothie mix.

This is a fun card to make even if you don’t have a drink mix to add.  I stamped and cut the sentiment “treat yourself” from the Picture Perfect Birthday set and attached that to the drink mix for an added touch.

Stampin Up Envelope Punch Board and Fruit Basket Bundle birthday card idea with a special treat - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

My son has a birthday soon and he loves fresh pineapples. The smoothie mix calls for fresh fruit, water, and ice so I thought I would include a pineapple to go with it.  The tag was attached to the pineapple so rather than cut it off I made a tag to coordinate and adhered it on top.

I love making little gifts like this! The pineapple and card would be a nice welcome gift for a new neighbor or even a treat for Easter. Simply change the sentiment and you are good to go for any occasion.

My daughter will be home for spring break soon and she loves strawberry smoothies! This little treat will be waiting for her.

Stampin Up Envelope Punch Board and Fruit Basket Bundle envelope card idea to hold a special treat - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

The strawberries were fun to stamp and punch. I used both Garden Green and Lemon Lime Twist ink for the stems. I love this gingham ribbon.  It is easy to work with and really makes the card pop! Here’a a photo showing the back of the envelope card.  You can see how the ribbon keeps the envelope closed.

Stampin Up Fruit Basket Bundle card idea with Tutti-frutti designer series paper and the Itty Bitty Punch pack - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

This sentiment is perfect for my daughter! This set would also make a great hostess gift, thank you, or just a special treat for a friend or coworker. Who wouldn’t enjoy fresh strawberries and a handmade card?!

Stampin Up Fruit Basket Bundle card idea with Tutti-frutti designer series paper and the Itty Bitty Punch pack - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I have one more treat to share with you today.  My sister recently moved to Virginia and she is going to visit this weekend.  My family refers to our home as the local Bed & Breakfast. (My husband is a great cook!) I always like to leave little pillow gifts for overnight guests so while I was punching strawberries I made this quick Ghirardelli treat holder for my sister.

Stampin Up Fruit Basket Bundle candy treat holder idea made with the Envelope Punch Board - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

You can whip this treat holder in no time at all!  Start with a piece of 4 x 4 designer series paper. Use the Envelope Punch Board to punch and score at 2 inches on each side. Put your candy inside and tie close with ribbon and twine.  I used my circle punches to punch the layers for the sentiment and attached it to the ribbon with a Stampin’ Dimensional. Quick & easy!

I hope you like today’s projects. For more Envelope Punch Board ideas and a video click HERE.  Check out this video showcasing the Itty Bitty Punch Pack and the Fruit Basket Bundle I used in today’s projects.

So which do you prefer: Ghirardelli chocolate, strawberry smoothie, or pineapple smoothie? I would love to hear from you! FYI…I prefer milk chocolate to dark and would rather eat fresh fruit rather than put it in a drink.

Coloring with Stampin’ Blends for Tic Tac Toe Challenge #30

It’s time for another Tic Tac Toe Challenge! How would YOU like to be a guest designer? Simply play along and each week someone will be chosen to be a future guest designer.  Here’s this week’s challenge board…

TTTC board #30

The “No Sentiment” box popped out at me.  I rarely make a card without a sentiment on the front so I thought I would challenge myself to use that element this week. I created a gift set of 3 x 3 cards.

Stampin Up Petal Passion 3 x 3 card gift set - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I love to color (which may be one reason why I teach Pre K)!  I have shared many different coloring techniques on my blog (using aqua painters, blender pens, sponge daubers, etc.) For this project I used my Stampin’ Blends and the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper.

To order the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper and other Stampin Up products, visit my blog www.juststampin.com

The black and white designs are great on their own but I really like how you can customize the designs.  The flowers are so vibrant using the Stampin’ Blends and trust me, it is so easy to do…the markers do the work for you!

I am thrilled the pizza boxes from the Holiday Catalog made it on Carryover List. They are perfect for 3 x 3 cards and envelopes or food items.
Stampin Up Pizza Box idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp
The DSP is 3 x 3 layered on a 3 1/4 Black square. I covered the top of the box with a 3 1/2 square of Rich Razzleberry and covered the sides with 1 x 3 1/2 strips in the same color. I added the gorgeous Whisper White Metallic Edge Ribbon as the finishing touch!  You could easily give the set of cards in black & white and let the recipient color them or enjoy some “coloring therapy” and give the set complete as I have done. Either way I think it makes a nice little gift.  I love having note cards on hand for any occasion and these fit the bill.  Stamp a sentiment inside or write a personalized note.
Here’s a tip for when you color with the Stampin’ Blends…put a piece of scrap paper under the image you are coloring becasue the color will bleed through.  You will want to adhere your colored piece to another layer. I cut my DSP in to 3 x 3 sqaures for this project.  I colored then adhered them on to 3 x 6 Thick Whisper White Cardstock (scored at 3″).  I hope this project inspires you to find time to create some handmade kindness!
You can purchase any of the products used to make today’s project from my online store or click on the images below for more information.  I invested in all the Stampin’ Blends and realize that can be a bit pricey starting out; however, I suggest you break it up over the next 3 months during Sale-A-Bration (Jan. 3 – Mar. 31) and earn a FREE item each time (with a qualifying purchase)!

Star of Light Candle Box

I enjoy the glow of burning candles! (And I absolutely love the smell when you blow them out!) Candles are a symbol of hospitality and I think they make a great hostess gift. Today’s project is a beautiful box to gift some candles.

The box holds 4  10″ dinner candles.

I CASEd this idea from the amazing Sam Hammond (Pootles.com).  She is so talented and an absolute joy to listen to (Love her British accent!). You can watch her video below.

We don’t have “standard” size candles in the US so I had to adjust the dimensions to fit my 10″ candles.

I started with a piece of 12 x 12 cardstock and cut 2 7/8 from one side so it measures 12 x 9 1/8. With the long (12 inch) side across the top, score at 7/8 and 11 1/8.  Score along the short side at 7/8, 4 1/8, 5, 8 1/4.

I followed Sam’s directions for cutting and assembling the box. *You need to use a strong adhesive (Fast Fuse, Tear & Tape, or Multipurpose Liquid Glue) on the 6 notched pieces.

I adjusted the layers on the top of my boxes to fit my measurements. The top layers measure 9 3/4 x 2 3/4 and 9 1/2 x 2 1/2. The Star of Light Stamp set is perfect for this box.  I love to heat emboss and it was fun to try out the different color combinations. I used silver embossing powder on navy and purple, gold on green, and white on red. These boxes are so quick & easy to make which worked out great for me because I need several hostess gifts! Here’s a look at each of the different color combinations I made.

This Whisper White box has silver foil and Perfect Plum layers on top with silver embossing. This box holds 3 purple and 1 pink candle for a coworker who bought a new advent wreath and needed some candles.  (Purple candles are not always easy to find so I stock up when I find them.)

Next is my red and white box with white embossed layers. I put red and white candles wrapped in white organza ribbon inside. I have good news…Stampin’ Up! brought back the white organza ribbon!  I love this ribbon as it is so easy to sponge in different colors. (Click HERE to see one of my first blog posts showcasing this technique.) The ribbon will be available in the new Occasions Catalog Jan. 3rd. Yea!!!

I love the green and very vanilla with gold embossing on this box. (The photo does not do it justice!) There are vanilla candles inside.

Navy and white are classic and so elegant with the silver embossing and Silver Metallic-Edge Ribbon.

I really like these boxes and would be thrilled to receive any one of them as a gift! Which candle box is your favorite?

Here’s a fun fact…Did you know the practice of placing lighted candles in the windows at Christmas was brought to America by the Irish?  The historical background of this custom is quite interesting.

A Pizza Box Just For You

Stampin Up Merry Little Labels gift box idea using Everyday Label Punch, Leaf Punch, Pretty Pines Thinlits, Layering Circles and a pizza box. Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Yesterday I shared this cute little pizza box which is so versatile. It’s food safe for giving homemade treats, is perfect for little gifts, and even holds a Paper Pumpkin subscription! Slide off the belly band and take a peek inside!

You can decorate these in a variety of ways. As promised, here’s all the details…

I wanted to make the box color coordinate with the printed Paper Pumpkin subscription so I went with Real Red and Pool Party.  The Designer Series Paper is from Christmas Around the World.  I cut a 3 3/8″ square piece of Real Red cardstock for the base of the lid.  The DSP layer is a 3 1/4″ square.   The belly band measures 1 x 10 1/2 and is wrapped around the box and adhered in the front.  I cut 2 circles from the Layering Circles Framelits and adhered those to the belly band.  The sentiment is from Merry Little Labels and stamped in Real Red ink on Whisper White cardstock.  I punched it out with the Everyday Label Punch.  I also punched 2 more from Pool Party cardstock and cut each in half. I adhered the 4 pieces to the back of the sentiment to give it a layered look.  I punched the leaf from Silver Glimmer Paper using the leaf punch (which is one of my favorite punches).  I also cut some evergreen from the Pretty Pines Thinlits in pool party to add a little embellishment behind the sentiment layer. I made a bow from 1/8″ Real Red Ribbon and adhered with a glue dot.

When you purchase a Paper Pumpkin prepaid subscription you can download a gift certificate. My wonderful husband resized it to fit in the pizza box. You can certainly do the same; however, if you purchase a 3, 6, or 12 month prepaid paper pumpkin subscription through me I will send you the gift certificate and the decorated pizza box to put it in! All you’ll have to do is decide who is goes to and add the code (which you will receive via email).  Give the gift that keeps on giving! I love my Paper Pumpkin kits and look forward to my monthly surprise in the mail. I think they make a wonderful gift to give or receive!  Click HERE to order! Want to see more ideas using the pizza boxes? Click HERE to see some I shared previously.

Stampin Up Year of Cheer and Merry Little Labels gift box idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

‘Tis the season of giving! I love to create my own packaging for gifts and when it comes to giving monetary gifts (which seems to be the preference for teenagers and young adults)  it’s fun to add a little surprise element. Hopefully this little box does just that! This “never ending money box” is fun and easy to make with just a few supplies…Simply Scored Scoring Tool, adhesive, and washi tape (and $ of course).  You can embellish the box as much or as little as you like.  Pretty ribbon and a tag do the trick !

Stampin Up Year of Cheer and Merry Little Labels gift box idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

My son and two nephews are going up north skiing and snowboarding after Christmas so I know they can use a little extra cash.  I thought the gorgeous snowflake paper and sentiment from Merry Little Labels would be perfect for their boxes. It certainly doesn’t look like your typical monetary gift. Take a peek inside…

Washi Tape holds the bills together and you just fold in thirds accordion style to make it look like a lot more $.  I heat embossed the label with Silver Embossing Powder and punched another label using the Silver Glimmer Paper. You can use these boxes for more than just money! I used the Large Letters Framelits to monogram my other box. You could fit jewelry, small candles, etc. in the box.

There’s so many possibilities for how you can decorate these boxes. Yesterday I shared a fun set of “dice” boxes I created for my husband’s birthday. They look totally different from today’s boxes yet they were made the same way.

Click HERE for measurements and directions to make the cube box.

Thank you so much for hopping with the Stampin’ Pretty Pals today. Please take a minute to mark your calendar for our next hop on December 13, 2017. Now hop along using the Blog Hop Line-up below. Don’t forget to leave us a comment. We really like that.

Have a wonderful day!
