G is for Gate Fold Cards

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series.  Today I am showcasing the Gate fold.  I think this is one of the easiest fun fold cards to make. I made a variety of cards for you today using the new 2017-2019 In Colors.

Stampin Up Floral Phrases and Fresh Florals In Color Gate Fold card ideas - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I love how this fun fold showcases the designer series paper.  I mixed and matched the patterns in the Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper Stack to make a set of cards to give as  a gift. I also wanted to show several different ways to use ribbon on your cards.  I love how the Stampin’ Up! ribbon matches the cardstock and ink colors. I think ribbon adds a nice element of texture to a card.  This new 1/2″ In Color Ribbon is finely woven and very easy to manipulate. I will be offering a ribbon share for the In Color ribbons as well as some of the other ribbon in the new catalog.  You can pick and choose which ribbon shares you want…there are so many choices for ribbon (which thrills me)!!

I have lots of photos for you today so let’s get to the details to make this card. Start with a piece of 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 cardstock.  Score at 2 1/8 and 6 3/8 (or just flip and score at 2 1/8 on each side if that is easier.)

I cut two 2 x 5 3/8″ strips of DSP for the front of my card and mixed up the patterns.  I stamped the floral image from Floral Phrases Stamp Set 3 times for each color…once on the envelope flap, once on a piece of 5 1/4 x 4 Whisper White (for the inside), and once on a piece of Whisper White to cut out using the Layering Ovals Framelits.  I also cut a scallop layering oval in each color cardstock. I attached the oval pieces together.  I adhered the DSP strips to the card bases then had some fun choosing different sentiments and playing with different ways to add ribbon. *Make sure when you adhere the ovals you only put adhesive on the left side so the card will open from the center.

Here’s a look at each of the cards…

Stampin Up Fresh Florals and Floral Phrases Happy Birthday Gate Fold card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I made a birthday card in Lemon Lime Twist and added a banner in whisper white to showcase the Lemon Lime Ribbon.  I love how these gate fold cards open.

I used the Happy Happenings (retiring) and Happy Birthday Gorgeous (available June 1st) stamp sets for my sentiments on this card.

My next card is for a baby in the new Powder Pink. I made a simple bow with the ribbon and attached it with a glue dot.

I thought the peek-a-boo sentiment from Suite Sayings (retiring) was perfect for this gate fold design.

I made a sympathy card in Fresh Fig and wrapped the ribbon around the card and tied a bow in the front.  I attached the  oval to the ribbon so you can slide it on and off like a belly band.

The sympathy stamp on the front of my card is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.  This is one of those MUST HAVE stamp sets.  There are so many sentiments for every occasion!  It is one of the first stamp sets I purchased and I have used it over and over again.

The inside sentiment is from Flourishing Phrases…another versatile stamp set with sentiments for several occasions (sympathy, wedding, thank you, congratulations, hello, love, just a note, etc.)

I used Berry Burst to make a wedding card.  I think the gate fold design would be great  for wedding invitations as well as cards to congratulate the new couple.  The teeny tiny Mr. & Mrs. stamp is from one of my favorite bundles that is retiring, That’s the Tag.

I like the fun ribbon tie on this one!  I simply wrapped the ribbon around the card and tied it with some Whisper White Baker’s Twine.  I adhered the oval to the ribbon using Fast Fuse so it can slide on and off like a belly band. The inside sentiment is from the Floral Phrases stamp set (which I also used to stamp the flower on each card).

I decided to switch the opening on the Tranquil Tide card for a fun twist.

I attached ribbon under the oval with a glue dot and made a bow tied with Bakers’s Twine for the front.  I love how you can open the card with the ribbon.

I use this thank you sentiment from Floral Phrases all the time!  It works on the front of a card as well as the inside.

Tranquil Tide in my favorite of the new In Colors. (Though Fresh Fig is a close second!) Do you have a favorite new In Color?

    1. I do too! I didn’t think I was going to like the Lemon Lime Twist but it looks gorgeous paired with black and other colors. I also thought the pink was going to be too light but it is really soft and pretty. Sometimes you just have to see them up close and personal. Photos don’t always do them justice.

    1. I love learning new folds too! I have a few new ones coming up that I have never tried before. So far I’ve been able to share my favorites…simple & quick.

  3. Love that you showed all the new in-colors on cards with different sentiments and openings. This series is a Gigantic Grouping of Gorgeousness!

    1. Thanks Linda! I love doing this fold with many different DSP packs. It’s amazing how the whole feel of the card can change with different patterns and colors. I am sure you will come up with a cute combination for your grandson to open!

  4. G is for Gee! I am not feeling up to par right now and the only things I can think of have already been used except I WAS giddy with glee when I first popped in this morning. G is also for GI upset which my new med is causing I think. Could be worse though.

Anyway, love these cards and the new color Tranquil Tide is my favorite new color and my favorite card. But, each card is sooo neat and I want to CASE them all. I don’t have the new colors yet so I may just have to start with the Night of Navy. I was so amazed as I totally missed the sympathy stamp in the teeny tiny wishes and I had the set out yesterday. You bet I will be using it as sometimes I just don’t want a big sympathy stamped across the card.

All in all, these are just simply GREAT! Thanks for some fabulous ideas!
