Happy Sheep Treat Holder

My daughter is home from college for Spring Break and I’m doing the happy dance!

We had a wonderful weekend!  We had hoped to see the cherry blossoms in D.C.; however, the storm last week made that a bust! So instead we spent the day in Virginia visiting Mount Vernon. (I’ve included some photos from our day at the end of this post.) George Washington may have been right when he said, “No estate in United America is more pleasantly situated than this…” My inspiration for today’s project is from the sheep in this photo I took as we enjoyed a beautiful day touring George Washington’s estate.

I bought some Lindt chocolate sheep at the grocery store awhile ago and knew I wanted to make something with them. There’s nothing like enjoying the simple pleasures of nature to inspire you to keep it simple. So that is just what I did!

My sheep holders are made from a 4 x 2 1/4 piece of Cucumber Crush cardstock.  I scored it at 1/2, 1 3/4, 2 1/4, 3 1/2.  I used the smallest oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits to cut the hole for the sheep.  I stamped some grass using the Basket Bunch Stamp Set and Cucumber Crush ink.  I folded along the score lines and adhered it with Tear & Tape. I cut the grass using the Basket builder Framelits Dies and adhered that to the back with Tear & Tape. I added some crinkled paper around the sheep. Quick & easy!

These are simply adorable and would make great table favors for Spring or Easter. When my family gets together for the holidays there are 22 or more sitting down to dinner. These treat holders are easy to mass produce.  Instead of scoring each piece individually, start with a piece of 8 x 11 cardstock and use the Simply Scored Scoring Tool. With the 8″ side across the top, score at 1/2, 1 3/4, 2 1/4, 3 1/2, 4 1/2, 5 3/4, 6 1/4, 7 1/2.  Then cut it in half at 4″.  You will have 2 strips measuring 4 x 11.  Cut each strip at 2 1/4. You will end up with 8 holders from 1 sheet of cardstock.  I love making little treats like these!

P.S. One of my sheep has strayed…I am hoping it will brighten the day of one of my blog readers (AKA The Sheep Herder) who recently had knee surgery. I’m hoping Mary Ann has a speedy recovery and will be doing the happy dance just like the sheep in the video!

  1. Hi Jeanie, Well Lindt’s are my favorite chocolates, the dark chocolates. I love Irish Step Dancing. I love sheep as an avid crocheter, I appreciate their wool . . . so I guess this is a triple great post. Again, you make them so easy, scoring the whole CS first. Super great hint.
    Happy Monday.
    🙂

    1. Hi Nancy! I enjoy watching the process of wool to yarn. I grew up in Massachusetts and took many a field trip to Plymouth and Sturbridge. I also love to go back in time to Colonial Williamsburg. I am such a history buff and love to travel. I have dabbled in crocheting but not much beyond a few scarves and afghans. Thanks for always taking the time to comment. Have a great week!

  2. So stink’n cute! I love this sheep holder and your instructions are so easy to follow. I read your p.s. and can’t wait to find the stray. Your kindness tugged on my heart. Thank you, Jeanie. I will definitely show him (I’m calling him Wilbur) some love. 💜

  3. Thanks for the great idea and directions. I too bought some cute Lindt chocolate because I knew someone would have a great idea how to showcase it. That’s you!

  4. Oh my ! A for Adorable ! These holders are too cute and thanks for the easy to follow instructions !
Who doesn`t like Lindt ? It is divine !

  5. Oh my gosh, these are ADORABLE!!!! And I love a good laugh in the morning with dancing sheep! I am so glad that Wilbur is straying toward Mary Ann! If he came toward me he would be….EATEN! Enjoy your time with your daughter!!!

    1. I crack up every time I watched that video! You and I are too much alike…those sheep come in a package of 5 (3 shown, 1 travelling to New Jersey). Hmmmm….Wilbur had another brother but he went missing! LOL

  6. Another great post, Jeanie! Such a cute treat holder, and the photos and tips are just perfect. Have fun with your daughter while you can snag a few days of her time!

    1. Thanks Linda! I wish I had the same week off as she does. No one in our family has the same vacation time this year…my husband is off the week before Easter and I am off the week after. Unfortunately, we don’t get to choose our vacations.

  7. Oh my gosh…..A D O R A B L E!!!! They are just too darn cute…..when I go to the store…..there will be some sheep coming home!!! I love what Mary Ann named him!!!

  8. Ewe the best! I had not seen the sheep and I even looked at the Lindt bunnies today while shopping. Probably just as well as I would have been baaaaad and ate it! I forgot to take my insulin with us as it was! Mary Ann will love it as well as anybody else that gets one. Well done my friend as they grass to eat and yours looks great!
