A Gusseted Bag for Tic Tac Toe Challenge #13

Gusseted bag made using the Striped Treat Bags, Merry Little Labels with Everyday Label Punch , and the Holly Embossing Folder by Stampin Up. For tutorials and supplies visit www.juststampin.com

I love the gold and white Striped Treat Bags in the Stampin’ Up! annual catalog. You can use them for food, cards, gifts, or treats. You can stamp them, add texture by embossing, or go to town with all kinds of embellishments.  You can even turn them into a gusseted bag like I did on today’s project!

Here’s this week’s Tic Tac Toe Challenge Board that inspired the elements I used for today’s project.

No automatic alt text available.

It’s easy to pick 3 and create!  I went down the right side: sequin, lace, gold. Check out this video to see how to turn this flat bag in to a freestanding gift.

How cool and easy is that?! Just trim 1/8″ from the bottom then score at 1″ and score each side at 3/4″. Then it’s just a couple of snips up from the bottom to the 1″ score line and you’re ready to fold and adhere.  From flat to gusseted in just a few quick and simple steps! I scored my bag first then ran it through the Big Shot with the Holly Embossing Folder before making the cuts.  I just love how these bags are so versatile!

I used the Merry Little Labels Stamp Set and coordinating Everyday Label Punch to decorate my bag. You will be able to purchase this set as a bundle (and save 10%) starting tomorrow (Sept. 1st) when the Holiday catalog goes live! The Merry Little Christmas (Mega) Suite contains products for all your holiday crafting needs: gift packaging, cardmaking, memory keeping, decor, and more! Stampin’ Up! trainer, Donna, shows you products from the suite, as well as some fun ideas for your Christmas crafting.

I love making my own tags and gift packaging and the products in this suite are perfect for that! I heat embossed the sentiment from Merry Little Labels with Gold embossing powder. I punched Gold Glimmer Paper using the Everyday Label Punch and adhered it behind the embossed label. I used the Gold Mini Sequin Trim with a piece of lace to tie around the ribbon. I attached the label to the bag with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

  1. Never thought about making a gusseted bag from the striped bags–don’t know why not when it is so easy and obvious… Thanks for the inspiration! Now I’ll order them–didn’t think I’d use them enough since the were flat. Silly me! Love the whole design with the tag, too. Just perfect. Another Tic Tac Toe winner.

  2. Dear Jeanie, What a beautiful bag. You did a wonderful job. Thank you for the information o how to make this beautiful bag. The recover will be so happy to receive such a beautifu gift. Have a great day, Ellen Hinds

  3. Love it…so royally beautiful! Really like the gusseted video and it seems so easy. Thanks, Jeanie.

  4. Now just wait a dog gone minute, how are we to even attempt the freakin’ TicTacToe Challenge when you continually come up with these gorgeous projects!?! I guess I will just go with the cute element that I was going to try and forget anything so drop dead gorgeous! But, hopefully, the computer won’t die before the deadline. I was so excited the other day with my card and wanted to get it in the mail. another oops moment as I sent it down the chute – I was going to enter the challenge and Mary’s Sunday blog post with it. No photo no nothing so I am just going to have to recreate it and change it a bit. At least I had good intentions. Off to watch the gusset bag video. Truly, this is a work of art. Even the tag is stunning.

    1. Now Chris, you know if I did it then it is simple. Sometimes it looks more complicated than it actually is! I think it is just the gold color and embossing which makes it look stepped up when it really is an easy project! You know how I love to emboss….I always say, “Best bang for your buck is the embossing folders!” I really think that is what takes it up a step. The tag is really easy just inked with VersaMark and heat embossed. Do not be intimidated!! I never would have thought to add the sequin trim if it wasn’t an element on the TTTC board. Normally I just tie off my ribbon with twin or a thin piece of ribbon but to complete the 3 in a row I just added another tie with the mini sequins. I love the Tic Tac Toe Challenge as it gets me to try different elements I wouldn’t normally think to use. THis project was all about using the gold! Fun!!! Thank you so much for your kind comments!

  5. Jeanie, what a great idea to emboss the bag…it makes such a great impact!! I adore all the gold trim and adding the lace is such a nice touch! And the glimmer paper peeking out from behind the tag…such great details!! Thank you so much for playing along with the Tic Tac Toe Challenge this week! XX

  6. Jeanie,
Woot! Woot! I’m so happy you played this week over on the Tic Tac Toe challenge. I just love when I love when a design is created and it’s not your typical card. I Would love to get treats and a bag like this…I love how you embossed a design on the bag and glimmered it up with all of the gold. See we all have our own unique ways to design and inspire.
    Hugs

  7. Wow!!!! So stunning!!! I bought a package of these and haven’t known what to do with them. Thanks for the idea! Can I get your permission to case?

  8. Found this while searching around for gift bag ideas and have a bunch of these retired bags. THANKS for posting and making the video QUICK AND EASY to see!!!! Love it.
