A Cup of Tea for a Friend’s Birthday & Blog Candy Surprise!!

Stampin' Up! Cup of Tea book binding fun fold card idea- Jeanie Stark StampinUp
I love to find unique gifts and enjoy making cards to coordinate. Today’s birthday card and bookmark is one I made for a friend who loves books and tea. The Cup of Tea Bundle and the “book binding” fun fold was the perfect choice for the occasion. I used some retired DSP (to coordinate with the gift). You can easily substitute a pattern from the Tea Boutique 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper or any from your “stash”.

Here are the dimensions to make this quick & easy book binding fun fold:

  • Card Base (Cherry Cobbler): 11 X 4-1/4, score at 4 1/4 & 5 1/2
  • Card Stock Layer (Basic Black): 4 x 4, 1 x 4
  • Designer Series Paper (retired Sale-A-Bration): 3 7/8 x 3 7/8, 7/8 x 3 7/8
  • Inside Layer (Basic White): 4 x 4

Adhere Tear & Tape (or other strong adhesive like Multipurpose Liquid Glue) along the 1 1/4 score line from the fold allowing the card to open like a book. I stamped the tea cup in Memento Black, the stems in Pear Pizzazz, the sentiment in Cherry Cobbler, then die cut each with the coordinating dies. The lemon is die cut from a scrap of Crushed Curry and the flowers I fussy cut from the DSP.  I found the Novel Tea bags on Amazon…they are so cool as each one has a quote from a novel.

I like to let the card decorate the gift package.  Simply adhere a clear envelope to the front of a bag and slide the card in. Add some tissue paper and it’s done!!!

  1. Love this! The card is so pretty! Love how you attach the card to the gift bag!! What a lovely gift!

  2. I just read a book someone gave me a few years ago, Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly. Love the cards.

  3. Love how the packaging and card always sync with your gifts~such a great eye and talent, my friend!
Also am a Taylor Jenkins Reid fan. I am a bit ambivalent about the series—I always seem disappointed because what’s in my imagination often isn’t what gets translated to the screen. THAT SAID~if you haven’t read Louise Penny’s series featuring Armand Gamache, I bet you’d love it. Brilliant writing, fabulous characters, intricate but realistic plots. Amazon has a series currently called “ThreePines” based on Penny’s books. Good but the books are so much better.
And if you or your group haven’t explored Lucy Foley’s novels, check out her work. The Guest List, The Book of Hours, and The Paris Apartment are 3 of my favs. I don’t mind all the crummy weather right now—perfect excuse to wrap up in a quilt and READ!

      1. Thanks Kim! I will check it out! Colleen Hoover seems to be a popular author!

  4. L❤️ve your card! I also
Liked the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I’m currently reading a book from Jenna Bush’s good read list, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I haven’t decided if I like it yet. It’s definitely not on my must read list. Thanks for the other recommendations.

    1. OMG…Danielle Steele has been around forever! I haven’t read that one…or should I say “I don’t remember” if I did. Sometimes I read so many I can be halfway through a book before it clicks I’ve read it before! LOL

  5. I love to read fiction a lot but right now I am reading A Praying Life by Paul Miller. It’s very good.

  6. I just finished The Identicals by Elin Hildebrand. I LOVE her books! Bookmarks are one of my absolute favorite gifts to give. Even if a person isn’t an avid reader they can use bookmarks to mark pages in their Bible or recipes in their favorite cookbooks.

  7. Love this! I was so proud of myself at Christmas time. I loved all the PP kit cards and used one of them on the outside of the treat bag I gave the new neighbor’s next door. I thought the kids would love it besides the two cards for each kiddo. On the loaf of banana bread I attached a different card I had made for the adults! I am glad I put it on their door knob since we ended up with the COVID. I think I put it on their door knob before we visited Mike’s dad. Anyway, they were in the plastic sleeves just in case it started snowing before they came home to find the treats.

I love the book binder card style too. Maybe I will get a box of tea and make the card like you did and take it over to the library. I know one of the librarians and she will love it and I am sure the others will too.

Books, I have been into cozy mysteries including Laura Child’s books where her character has a tea shop in Charleston. So fun with recurring characters. I am currently reading Sara Paretsky Love and Other Crimes. Short stories that go along with her books. I found it at a used book sale. I love her books Thanks for the above mentioned books. I need to mix up some of my readings and always looking for new to me ones.

    1. I love reading book series because I am always sad when the story ends and love that I can look forward to the characters again in the next book! Thanks for the suggestions!

  8. My recent reads were Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez, and All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Just finished The Orphan’s Tale by Pam Jenoff.

Love your book fold card. It looks easy enough, I will have to make one soon!

    1. Hi Pat! Our book club read Anthony Doer’s book. I will check out your other suggestions. You should definitely try the book fold. I am hooked on it lately as it really is quick & easy!

  9. I am so lucky to be the recipient of this wonderful gift! You know how much I love it and all the friendship that goes along with it. I just finished The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama. I think she is so very insightful. I’m currently reading Mad Honey by Jody Picoult. Also, you’ll love Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

    1. Hi Rosanne! I may need to borrow the Light We Carry! I have Carrie Sotto is Back. Ariane went to her book signing and bought me a copy. Can’t wait to read that next!

  10. TO DANCE WITH THE WHITE DOG is an awesome book by Terry Kay. It is not a new book. But it makes me think of my father and I get very emotional. I heartily recommend it.

  11. As a retired history teacher I’ve been reading David McCulloughks “The Johnstown Flood” – probably not your “cup of tea” type book.

    1. LOL…I enjoy reading several different genres….historical fiction is my favorite! My husband reads mostly non fiction. he loves his biographies and autobiographies!

  12. The Secret History is what I am reading right now. Love your post with everything coordinating!

  13. I have just finished the book The Magnolia Sisters by Michelle Major. Now I’m reading High Stakes by Danielle Steele. Last year I read all the Virgin River books.

    1. I didn’t realize Virgin River was a series! I’ve watched the show and loved it! Perhaps I will go back and read the series.

  14. Hi Jeanie, My question is about the Mini Big Shot. I have a Big Shot at our home in Montana. I’m contemplating the Mini for our place in AZ. Can older dies be used in the Mini if they are a small size? Or is it only compatible for new dies made specifically for the Mini machine?
    Thanks!
    Robin

    1. Hi Robin! You can use the Mini Stamp & Cut with ANY steel dies, old or new.
FYI….The Mini Stamp & Cut is included as one of the Demonstrator Starter Kit options during Sale-A-Bration. Plus, you get to choose an extra $50 in product! It’s a great deal, especially if you want/need the Mini Machine. Feel free to contact me if you want more information.

  15. I am always behind on reading “popular” books, but I just finished Where The Crawdads Sing. It was really good.

I love the card/ bag/ gift you featured. It is so lovely!

    1. I listened to that book on tape during a trip. Wish I had read it instead as the reader didn’t get the accent right!

  16. Love your card and packaging!
I have read two books in the series “Her Majesty the Queen Investigates” by SJ Bennett. I have also enjoyed three books in “The Thursday Murder Club” series by Richard Osman. Both series are by British authors.
Really fun seeing what others are reading.

    1. Thanks Pat! I agree, it is fun to see what others are reading! I love watching British TV so I bet I’d enjoy a good book too!

  17. Love the “Cup of Tea” items you created.

A vert suspenseful book I enjoyed is: Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica.
