A Mini Gable Box for Tic Tac Toe Challenge #34

I am the designer for this week’s Tic Tac Toe challenge and due to my fractured elbow I was disappointed I wouldn’t be able to create a project this week! So I went with Plan B and with my husband’s help, made this little valentine treat to send to our daughter.

Here’s this week’s challenge board…

This quick & easy treat box actually made Tic Tac Toe 3 different ways: down the middle, across the middle, and diagonal. This project uses some of the new items from the Occasions catalog. The Silver Mini Gable Box (found on page 13) is embossed with the floral design from the new Petal Pair Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (page 23). My husband is not a craft person but he will do anything for me! Definitely a keeper!

The box is easy to put together. The love die cut from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits is cut from Berry Burst cardstock and adhered using a few glue dots. The sentiment is from the January Paper Pumpkin kit and goes perfect with the Hershey Chocolate Hugs & Kisses! The sentiment is stamped in Berry Burst ink on Whisper White cardstock and punched on both ends with the Triple Banner Punch. A couple of silver hearts from the Metallic Enamel Shapes and a simple bow with the new Berry Burst Metallic-Edge Ribbon was all this box needed. Well, almost all…it’s filled it with chocolate Hugs & Kisses! I wish I could deliver them in person!

Here’s the Tic Tac Toe Challenge Rules:

Create a new project. You can create any project and use any elements/supplies as long as it fits within the three elements (in a row, column or diagonal) of your choosing from the tic tac toe challenge board that is set for the current challenge.
You may enter up to a maximum of 3 times as long as the creations are new.
If you have a blog, you should include the challenge graphic in your post and link back to our challenge.
If you are posting in a gallery (like SplitCoast, Pinterest, or any other social media platform), make sure you mention our challenge with a link back to the challenge and use the hashtag #tictactoechallenge and the hashtag found on the challenge (eg: #tttc001)
Your submission link should be a direct link to your project post, not a general link to your blog, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest or other gallery account. Incorrect links are not eligible for Designers’ Picks, and may be deleted.
We want to leave you comments, but if you are linking your project to a closed group or a site that requires us to register, we may not be able to! The “No Sentiment” box popped out at me. I rarely make a card without a sentiment on the front so I thought I would challenge myself to use that element this week. I created a gift set of 3 x 3 cards.

I love to color (which may be one reason why I teach Pre K)! I have shared many different coloring techniques on my blog (using aqua painters, blender pens, sponge daubers, etc.) For this project I used my Stampin’ Blends and the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper.

I am thrilled the pizza boxes from the Holiday Catalog made it on Carryover List. They are perfect for 3 x 3 cards and envelopes or food items.

The DSP is 3 x 3 layered on a 3 1/4 Black square. I covered the top of the box with a 3 1/2 square of Rich Razzleberry and covered the sides with 1 x 3 1/2 strips in the same color. I added the gorgeous Whisper White Metallic Edge Ribbon as the finishing touch! You could easily give the set of cards in black & white and let the recipient color them or enjoy some “coloring therapy” and give the set complete as I have done. Either way I think it makes a nice little gift. I love having note cards on hand for any occasion and these fit the bill. Stamp a sentiment inside or write a personalized note.

Here’s a tip for when you color with the Stampin’ Blends…put a piece of scrap paper under the image you are coloring becasue the color will bleed through. You will want to adhere your colored piece to another layer. I cut my DSP in to 3 x 3 sqaures for this project. I colored then adhered them on to 3 x 6 Thick Whisper White Cardstock (scored at 3″). I hope this project inspires you to find time to create some handmade kindness!

Get ready to play Tic Tac Toe because this week’s board by Corinne Blake is one of my favorites with simple and fun choices!!!

I used all 9 elements on my card which made tic tac toe all 8 ways!!

It is so much fun and easy to create when you pick 3 in a row and play! Each week I gather the different elements from the board so they are in front of me. This week I started by grabbing my circle framelits and black cardstock then looked through my swatch books for DSP with black and/or stripes. (I found both!) The floral design from Whole Lot of Lovely certainly checked off the box for “vibrant”. Then I chose a color from the DSP to use for my “layer” and “ribbon”. I knew it would be easy to add a heat embossed thank you sentiment for a friend and by cutting it out with a circle die that checked off 5 elements…circle, black, thank you, friend, heat embossed. How easy is that?!!! Trust me, having the items in front of you will get those creative juices flowing…you will see things that go together. Just start creating! All I had left to do was a simple layout to put it all together. (*I keep sketches of simple layouts as well as cards I’ve made or received with layouts I like to use as inspiration for future designs. This layout is clean & simple and could easily be used with many different papers and take on a totally different look and feel. I know I will be using it again!)
