R is for Reindeer

Welcome to my ABC Holiday 2019 Series! Throughout this series I have been sharing all kinds of cards, gifts, and ideas to help make your holidays as easy as ABC! It doesn’t matter how old my kids or I get; every Christmas Eve I have to read the Night Before Christmas.  I just love the part where Santa calls his reindeer by name. I have two cards to share with you today featuring (yet to be named) reindeer.

Stampin' Up! Tidings All Around and Detailed Deer Christmas wreath card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

These cards showcase the Tidings All Around Bundle which I am featuring this  month in my FREE tutorials. I offer 3 exclusive tutorials each month with a minimum $40 or more online order. Today is the perfect day to place an order as Stampin’ Up! is having a 24-Hour Flash sale with over 50 stamp sets on sale for 15% off! (*See below for more details.) I have been playing with the wreath die all month long and it is so versatile. (I will link to my previous projects below.) First, I want to share some tips with today’s cards.  If you look closely you will notice that both cards are pretty much the same except for the card orientation and different colors.

Here’s the details:

Materials & Measurements

  • Pretty Peacock card base: 4 1/4 x 11 scored at 5 1/2,   2 pieces 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 to stamp & cut  wreaths, 1/4 strip for envelope
  • Shaded Spruce card base: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4,  2 pieces 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 to stamp & cut  wreaths, 1/4 strip for envelope
  • Very Vanilla: 2 cut at 4″ x 5 1/4″ for front and inside of card, scrap to stamp sentiment on plaid card
  • DSP:  2 pieces 3/4 x 4, and either 3/4 x 4 3/8 or 3/4 x 5 3/4  for envelope
  • Gold or Copper Foil: 3 1/2 x 4 to cut reindeer
  • Copper Trim or Gold Metallic-Edge Ribbon to tie bow
  • Very Vanilla Classic Weave Ribbon to cut Merry Christmas for sentiment on copper card

Stampin' Up! Tidings All Around and Detailed Deer Christmas wreath card idea with Wrapped in Plaid Specialty Designer Series Paper - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

This card uses the Wrapped in Plaid 6 x 6 Specialty Designer Series Paper. I love the classic Christmas plaids with gold foil accents. I stamped the wreath from Tidings All Around on Shaded Spruce cardstock with Shaded Spruce ink and cut it out with the All-Around Wreath Dies.  I also cut the “leafy” wreath in Shaded Spruce too and layered it behind the the stamped wreath.  I cut the reindeer out in Gold Foil to go with the gold foil in the DSP.  The wreath and reindeer are popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Stampin' Up! Tidings All Around and Detailed Deer Christmas wreath card idea with Wrapped in Plaid Specialty Designer Series Paper - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

The sentiment is from Tidings All Around and stamped in Golden Glitz Delicata Metallic Ink and popped up with dimensionals.  I combined two different sentiments to get Merry Christmas.  I “masked” the part of each sentiment that I didn’t want by inking the sentiment first, then putting a piece of tape over the part I didn’t want to stamp on the paper.  I find this much easier and quicker than masking techniques where you have to stamp then cut out the part you don’t want and cover it up on your cardstock.  Sometimes I even just use a sticky note to cover the part I don’t want or put the sticky note on my paper so the inked part I don’t want is on the sticky note. It really depends on how close the sentiments are to each other which method I use. Other times I may use a Stampin’ Write Marker to just ink the part of the sentiment I want. (*If you try masking with markers make sure your stamp is clean and dry from residue.)

I added matching DSP and a strip of cardstock to the front of the envelope.  I love this added touch and always finish my envelopes to coordinate.

The next card is made the same with just a few changes.

Stampin' Up! Tidings All Around and Detailed Deer Christmas wreath card idea with Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

This card is vertical instead of horizontal which gives it a different look don’t you think? Also, I used VersaMark Ink and Copper Embossing Powder to heat emboss the wreath design. The reindeer for this card is cut from Copper Foil to coordinate with the copper in the DSP. Instead of stamping a sentiment I cut the ribbon from the Brightly Gleaming Suite and used that as the sentiment. (*Tip: TO keep it from fraying I used Tear& Tape on the back and didn’t remove the backing.  I just added dimensionals on top of the Tear & Tape.) I love the added texture from the copper embossing powder and classic woven ribbon.

Stampin' Up! Tidings All Around and Detailed Deer Christmas wreath card idea with Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

TO decorate the coordinating envelope for this card I put the DSP strip across the bottom of the envelope on the front. There are so many ways to dress up an envelope!

Here’s a look at the lighted fun fold card.

Stampin' Up! TIdings All Around Bundle and Christmas Bulb Builder Punch fun fold Christmas wreath card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Here’s the details if you would like to make this fun fold card…

Measurements

  • Very Vanilla card base:  4 1/2″ x 10 3/4″ scored at 3 5/8″ and 7 1/4″, 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ for sentiment
  • Mossy Meadow: 2 pieces 4″ x 4″ each to cut wreath dies
  • Old Olive: 2 pieces 4″ x 4″ each to cut wreath dies
  • Vellum: 4″ x 4″ to cut 3″ Circle Die
  • Scraps of Crushed Curry, Real Red, Pretty Peacock, Gorgeous Grape, Old Olive, and Smokey Slate to punch bulbs
  • DSP: Night Before Christmas 1 1/4″ x 4 1/2″

Directions

  • Fold and burnish score lines on card base.  Fold bottom up and top down for a trifold card.  The bottom piece is slightly smaller than the top so it closes easily.
  • Cut a solid and leaf wreath in Mossy Meadow and Old Olive. Layer the Old Olive leaf wreath on top of the solid base wreath with a few Glue Dots. Layer the Mossy Meadow leaf on top of Old Olive off setting it a little so the leaves don’t line up and the wreath looks fuller.
  • Cut a 3″ Circle using the Layering Circle Dies. Glue to the back of the wreath then add the Mossy Meadow solid wreath to give it a finished look and add depth.
  • Using the 2 1/4″ Circle Punch, center the punch along the top piece and push it in as far as it will go and punch.Tutorial to make fun fold lighted wreath - Jeanie Stark Stampin' Up!
  • Center wreath over the circle opening and adhere to the front panel with liquid glue.
  • Make a bow with Real Red Cotton Ribbon and attach to the wreath with Glue Dots.
  • Stamp tops to bulbs with Smokey slate ink on ~1/2 ” strip of Smokey Slate cardstock.  Punch with Bulb Builder Punch.
  • Punch assorted colors of cardstock with Bulb Builder Punch. Adhere tops to bulbs with Liquid Glue and adhere to wreath with Glue Dots. Add highlights with a white gel pen.
  • savingpng-3
  • Open the top of the card and fold the bottom piece up.  Center and stamp sentiment in Black ink. * You will only see this sentiment through the front of the wreath when the card is closed.  When the card is open and displayed the sentiment is actually on the bottom of the card.
  • Fold the sentiment piece down and add the strip of DSP along the edge.  Stamp greeting on Very Vanilla cardstock and layer with Real Red cardstock.  Adhere to DSP with Stampin’ Dimensionals. *The popped up greeting will hold the card in place when it is displayed.  Add a battery operated tea light behind the wreath so it glows. You have plenty of space inside for a handwritten note or other sentiment.

L is for Lights for the Pals Blog Hop

Oct-Blog-Hop 2019

Welcome to the Pals’ Blog Hop! We’re so glad you’re here because we made some great projects for “My Favorite Season”  – showcasing our favorite stamps and supplies for our holiday project.  You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

I’ve been sharing holiday projects for each letter of the alphabet in my ABC Holiday 2019 Series. (Make sure you follow my blog so you don’t miss out on holiday ideas from A to Z!) Today I have two fun projects to “light” up the holidays!  No matter what’s your favorite holiday, the All- Around Wreath Dies work for every season!

My first project is a fun fold card that lights up with a battery operated votive candle.

Stampin' Up! TIdings All Around Bundle fun fold Christmas wreath card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I used the Tidings All Around Stamp Set and All-Around Wreath Die to create this card. (You can purchase these as a bundle and save 10%)! This card would look great on a mantel, bookcase, or end table. I love how it lights up!

Stampin' Up! TIdings All Around Bundle and Christmas Bulb Builder Punch fun fold Christmas wreath card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Here’s a few more pictures so you can see how it looks closed and how it opens. It’s a trifold card that sits up like a tent.

I sandwiched a piece of vellum between the wreaths so the light shines through without actually seeing the votive candle. I decorated the wreath with bulbs using the Bulb Builder Punch.  The Night Before Christmas Designer Series Paper was the perfect choice to compliment the punched lights. This was so much fun to make!

The best part of any holiday season is spending time with family & friends! I love to make little table favors for each holiday and the All- Around Wreath Dies make a fun and easy project to light up your holiday table.

I made these for our Thanksgiving table but you could easily do the same for Christmas, New Years, Valentine’s Day, etc. These dies are versatile for year round use! I love them! I I watercolored Shimmery White cardstock with the Aqua Painter before cutting the die. It was quick & easy!

One of the things we love to do as a family during the holiday season is drive around and look at all the beautiful lights. Many neighborhoods in our area have huge displays of lights and music and it’s always fun to see the different displays. Do you go all out with lights? Which do you prefer… colored lights or white lights?

If you would like to make these “lighted” projects check back tomorrow for the complete tutorials because….More inspiration awaits! Use the Blog Hop Line-up below to visit the rest of this month’s Design Team. My fellow Pals are excited to show you what they’ve created! Don’t forget to show us some love by commenting on our creations. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 13th when we showcase projects with layers of DSP and embellishments for any occasion. Don’t miss the fun!
