Welcome to my ABC Card Series! Throughout this series I’ll be sharing a variety of cards for every occasion from A to Z! Today’s card shows my idea of retirement… salt air, an ocean breeze, and my toes in the sand (with a book in my hand)! I feel relaxed already!
To create this card I began by sponging the whisper white layer with Pool Party. Then I placed a sticky note across the top half so I would have a nice straight horizon when I stamped the ocean. I used the High Tide Stamp Set and Balmy Blue Ink then sponged over it lightly and added some Wink of Stella for a little sparkle. (It’s hard to see in the photo.) I stamped the sand in Crumb Cake ink and die cut the white chair with the die from Seasonal Layers. I love Balmy Blue and Crumb Cake together with white! So crisp! The Well Written Dies and Well Said Stamp Set have just about any saying you could ever want! If you are looking for great sentiments for the front and inside of your cards these are top on my list! I love all the combinations you can make with the word dies! They are the perfect size and the font is just lovely!
I’ve mentioned before that I like to play around with different possibilities when I create. After I made the card above I was thinking it might look better as a vertical card rather than horizontal. So I made another one.
This proved to be more work than I bargained for! I didn’t stamp my sentiment straight so rather than redo it again I decided to cover it up. I stamped it on a strip of white and I wasn’t happy with that so I sponged it in pool party like the background. What do you think…vertical or horizontal?

Guess who just decided to retire??? ME! After 33 years of teaching I will not be heading back to school later this month. It was a tough decision but I am looking forward to new adventures ahead. I’m thinking about all the extra time I will have to create and share!

Congrats. I am retired for 7 years and yes I don’t know how I worked and crafted. Lol. I volunteer a couple 1/2 days a week and go to the gym 5 days a week plus play pickleball. The rest of the time is mine besides cleaning cooking groceries etc. Ugggg. I hope u find your niche with retirement. Take a lot of time to find out where your talents can be offered. I started in retirement cleaning out the closets in the house. Haha. I love the horizontal card

Congratulations on your retirement. I spend my time making handmade cards. I also love being an Avon Representative. Also doing the cleaning, cooking, etc. My husband and I take motorcycle rides and do some travelling. Enjoy your retirement!!!

Hi Jeanie, My vote goes for the vertical card because of the placement of the chair looking straight out into peace and tranquility. I am long retired so over the years I have volunteered at The Association For The Help Of Retarded Children and various Soup Kitchens. Those were the places that I found gratification. Now I have a Game Day once a week which is fun and relaxing. LOVE your cards and your Card Buffet Kits. Good luck on your retirement. You will love it!!!

Great cards, Jeanie, and SO you! If I had to choose one, I’d pick the vertical, but both are wonderful. My hubby just retired two weeks ago and he said to me last night, “How did life get so busy?!” I spend a good portion of my retired days stamping and blogging, but I love to go exercise on my own time (not after school when I was too tired to go!) and the freedom to travel wherever and whenever – like this next week! So excited to see you all and see a part of our country that I’ve never been to. Retirement is great 🙂
Awesome news! Congrats Jeanie….you are going to love it! I have been retired now for 1 1/2 years and I have so much fun. My oldest has a small store I help out in once a week (I also sell my cards), I teach card making classes in two retirement communities once a month and I travel with my hubs and sometimes with my girlfriends (Aruba in September). Enjoy every moment and laugh, Jeanie. 💜
Love both cards, but have to say I’m partial to the vertical, and I actually prefer the “retirement” sentiment stamped on an additional layer.
Congrats on making the decision to retire. I know you will fill every moment with things you love and I’m glad to hear sitting seaside, relaxing with a book on your lap will be one of those things. What’s that stamp say? “Just Breathe”? 😉!! Take it from someone who escaped to retirement 6 years ago, the hard part now will be saying “NO” to people who want to fill up your hours since you will have so much “free time”!
Does this mean more opportunity for travel? Perhaps BK’s World Card Making get-together in Nov to coincide with On Stage? Or are you doing Hartford? Hope to see you at one or the other.

Hi Jeanie, Congratulations on your retirement! I am also a retired educator. I spent 45 years in the classroom and as an administrator. I dearly miss the children and the teachers but do do not miss the daily grind. I started stamping when I retired and love every minute of it. I spend some of my time volunteering with various community organizations.I am enjoying the freedom to do what I want whenever I want. You will love it! I think both of the cards are gorgeous. My favorite is the horizontal one.
first like the horizontal card…but better news…congrats on your retirement…that sign says it all. I have been retired 12 years with 8 grand kids so days are more than busy. But, you can and do learn to say NO…
Vertical card caught my attention. Love hearing about your daughter at Georgia Tech. Your “trip” down here last year had me in stitches. Been retired from nursing for 13yrs now. I saw someone’s comment about cleaning closets and I remember after 3mos of doing that I didn’t know what to do with myself! I “found” card making and SU….haves loved this “addicting” craft ever since! Enjoy your retirement!

Congratulations on your retirement! Yes, you’ll wonder how you ever had time to work! You’ll find plenty of volunteer opportunities! Listening to students read would be a good one for you! I work with Delta Kappa Gamma on the chapter, state and International levels and make cards when I can! I think I like the vertical one better, though there’s more beach on the horizontal one! Love both.
You retired!!!??? Congratulations!!! I’m so happy for you! You’re gonna love retirement. My favorite part is not having to get up at 5:30 a.m.!! I’ve been retired 17 years. I try to plan so that I can stay home every other day, I try to get as many errands done in one day as possible (I’m sometimes running for 8 hours); and I always try to get at least one or two “projects” done every day…no need to push it! Projects include laundry, grocery shopping, making a card, organizing something, etc. At the end of the day, I like to say that I accomplished this and that so my day wasn’t wasted.
I like your horizontal card. This is a perfect retirement card. I forgot to mention (how could I forget!!) that I also spend one day a week with my 3-yo granddaughter who lives an hour north of me.
When I first retired, I signed up for a watercolor class, a woodworking class and a Spanish class. It was worse than working! I learned my lesson early on and now I pace myself…not too many commitments.
