Blog Candy Winner and Visions of Christmas Past!

Thanks to all who played along with my Holiday Catalog Scavenger Hunt!  I loved reading your emails and appreciate all the positive feedback!  Many of you commented how you noticed things you missed when you browsed the catalog previously. I do the same thing and often tend to overlook all the great sample ideas! FYI…its OK to copy ideas from the catalog…they are there to inspire you.  I often find when I’m not feeling very creative that if I create a project from the catalog or Pinterest I get my Mojo back.  As I create I try things different ways and often end up with something totally different. For me creating is a way to unwind and the fact that I end up with a little something to share and give to others makes it a Win!Win!

Speaking of win…It’s time to announce the winner of the scavenger hunt… Congratulations to Carmen M!!!  Carmen, email me (j.stark@myactv.net) your address and I will send you the goodies (pictured below) from the Holiday catalog! Have fun creating with the new embellishments, card box, pizza box, and treat tube!

Looking at all these goodies spread out like this reminded me of a Christmas card I did many years ago (before I discovered Stampin’ Up!). Let me preface by saying we are not the most photogenic family. (I keep threatening that I am going to make an ugly photo album of all the dud pictures we have! LOL)  One year it was down to the wire and I didn’t have a single decent family photo for our Christmas card.  Well, if you follow my blog, you know that I am a teacher and I love books! I have a bunch of “I Spy” books that my students enjoy and that gave me an idea.  I found a photo I liked of each of my children and took a picture (frame and all) along with little trinkets from our year and made an “I Spy” Christmas card.

My mom, who is not familiar with “I Spy” books, called to ask me why I sent her a picture of my “messy table”.  LOL  She didn’t get it but all my friends who had kids really enjoyed it.

When you think about it, the scavenger hunt was kind of like an “I Spy” adventure…You had to find items on the pages in the catalog.  As promised, here are the answers.

  1. WHICH STAMP SET INCLUDES A SHY ELF?  Festive Phrases (Isn’t he adorable?!)
  2. WHAT KIND OF BOXES ARE FEATURED ON P. 44? Mini Pizza Boxes (Did you see my blog yesterday featuring these goodies? Click HERE if you missed it.)
  3. NAME ONE THING YOU CAN PACKAGE IN THEM. 3 x 3 cards, cookie
  4. WHICH NEW STAMP SET IS JUST FOR HOSTS? Seasons of Whimsy
  5. NAME TWO NEW PUNCHES FROM THE HOLIDAY CATALOG. Leaf, Cat, Everyday Label
  6. WHICH FOIL COLORS ARE FEATURED IN THE YEAR OF
CHEER SPECIALTY DESIGNER SERIES PAPER? Champagne, copper, gold, silver
  7. NAME THE KITS AVAILABLE IN THE HOLIDAY CATALOG. Watercolor Christmas, Be Merry, Paper Pumpkin
  8. HOW MANY CATS AND DOGS ARE IN THE SANTA PAWS
    STAMP SET? 18
  9. NAME TWO THINGS THAT SPARKLE FROM P. 21. glimmer paper, mini tinsel trim
  10. FINISH THIS PHRASE (FEATURED ON A STAMP):
“WHEN I COUNT MY BLESSINGS, YOU ARE ____.” “on the top of my list”

My suggestion for you…Buy that stamp set now for your Christmas cards and get started on your cards early!!!

We still “attempt” a family photo for our annual Christmas card but now I love to add my personal handmade touch.  Last year I used the Holly Berry Happiness Stamp Set and watercolor pencils to make a fun fold for our photo collage. Here’s our card from last year. (You can click on the photo below for directions and more Fun Fold Photo Christmas Cards from past years.)

  1. Congrats to Carmen! I love your “I Spy” card…very clever and fun. Your 2016 card is amazing as well. Happy Labor Day and enjoy this beautiful day, Jeanie.😎

  2. Your “I Spy” card is an easy way to summarize your year without having to write a newsletter! I love it! I so enjoy your blog posts.

  3. Congrats to Carmen – look at all the fun loot you’ll get! The I Spy card is so much fun, I wish more people would make one instead of sending a several page newsletter! My husband had to shred a letter from one family as it was making so mad and sad at the same time – I was angry they had to gloat on every little thing for the year that they and the adult children did and sad that they had to tell everyone about it. Give me a thought out handmade card any day! Your 2016 card was very clever too.

  4. I am adamantly opposed to those Christmas cards that come reprinted from a company including “love, the Smiths”–not even a personal signature, people? Please. And I’m with Chris: don’t get me started on the whole newsletter thing. They always seem to come from people who would never give me the time of day in person. I would rather receive a blank sheet of paper. At least I could repurpose it.

I love your card from last year, and the I Spy card is genius! That would be a keeper for sure. Anyone who receives any one of YOUR Christmas cards is: 1. Fortunate to know you well enough to rate a card, and 2. Fortunate to share a peek into your very creative mind. You blow me away. Thanks for so generously sharing with us all every time you post.

  5. Yay for Carmen! I love your I Spy theme and how you incorporated your family activities for the year on it! You are so creative! Thanks for sharing and blogging for us.
