A Magical Birthday

Stampin Up Magical Mermaid and Star of Light 3 x 3 heat embossed birthday card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

My daughter is turning 21 next week! We like to give birthday “experiences” and this year we surprised her with an early celebration.  We sent her the confirmation for her plane ticket for Fall break however; instead of a ticket to fly home, we sent her a ticket to Orlando!  She did not know that was her destination until she went online to check in 24 hours in advance and thought her dad had messed up the flight.  LOL  Needless to say, she was thrilled when she found out she was going to Universal Studios (the Wizarding World of Harry Potter) and we would be meeting her there.  We are HUGE Harry Potter fans and I can still remember reading aloud all seven books to her. Our son lives in Massachusetts and he took off from work and flew in to surprise her. We had a wonderful time!

We had a few other surprises for her too!
Stampin Up Broadway Bound 21st birthday gift card holder and mini pizza box game idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp
I found a “golden snitch” bracelet and made a special holder (which could also be used to hold a gift card).
Stampin Up Detailed With Love and Broadway Bound 21st birthday gift card holder - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I love that you pull the ribbon to reveal the gift/card inside.

Details:
4 1/4 x 5 1/2 Gold Foil scored at 1 1/2 and 4. Punch a hole in the center using 1/4″ circle punch. Adhere with tear & tape on back.
Cut ~12″ ribbon and loop around cardstock (Gold Glimmer Paper) and slide inside.
Insert ribbon through hole and tie a knot.
Decorate front as desired.  I used Broadway Bound DSP and Gold Metallic Ribbon.
Pull ribbon to view/open.

We love to play family games and I found this fun idea on Pinterest.

I printed the cards on Whisper White cardstock and cut them out.  They were the perfect size to fit in a Stampin’ Up! Mini Pizza Box!

Star of Light Candle Box

I enjoy the glow of burning candles! (And I absolutely love the smell when you blow them out!) Candles are a symbol of hospitality and I think they make a great hostess gift. Today’s project is a beautiful box to gift some candles.

The box holds 4  10″ dinner candles.

I CASEd this idea from the amazing Sam Hammond (Pootles.com).  She is so talented and an absolute joy to listen to (Love her British accent!). You can watch her video below.

We don’t have “standard” size candles in the US so I had to adjust the dimensions to fit my 10″ candles.

I started with a piece of 12 x 12 cardstock and cut 2 7/8 from one side so it measures 12 x 9 1/8. With the long (12 inch) side across the top, score at 7/8 and 11 1/8.  Score along the short side at 7/8, 4 1/8, 5, 8 1/4.

I followed Sam’s directions for cutting and assembling the box. *You need to use a strong adhesive (Fast Fuse, Tear & Tape, or Multipurpose Liquid Glue) on the 6 notched pieces.

I adjusted the layers on the top of my boxes to fit my measurements. The top layers measure 9 3/4 x 2 3/4 and 9 1/2 x 2 1/2. The Star of Light Stamp set is perfect for this box.  I love to heat emboss and it was fun to try out the different color combinations. I used silver embossing powder on navy and purple, gold on green, and white on red. These boxes are so quick & easy to make which worked out great for me because I need several hostess gifts! Here’s a look at each of the different color combinations I made.

This Whisper White box has silver foil and Perfect Plum layers on top with silver embossing. This box holds 3 purple and 1 pink candle for a coworker who bought a new advent wreath and needed some candles.  (Purple candles are not always easy to find so I stock up when I find them.)

Next is my red and white box with white embossed layers. I put red and white candles wrapped in white organza ribbon inside. I have good news…Stampin’ Up! brought back the white organza ribbon!  I love this ribbon as it is so easy to sponge in different colors. (Click HERE to see one of my first blog posts showcasing this technique.) The ribbon will be available in the new Occasions Catalog Jan. 3rd. Yea!!!

I love the green and very vanilla with gold embossing on this box. (The photo does not do it justice!) There are vanilla candles inside.

Navy and white are classic and so elegant with the silver embossing and Silver Metallic-Edge Ribbon.

I really like these boxes and would be thrilled to receive any one of them as a gift! Which candle box is your favorite?

Here’s a fun fact…Did you know the practice of placing lighted candles in the windows at Christmas was brought to America by the Irish?  The historical background of this custom is quite interesting.

L is for Star of Light

Welcome to my Holiday ABC series. I was asked to design a card using the Star of Light Stamp Set. The request was for a simple card that would be easy to make in bulk.  I love a challenge and this was so much fun! I created two cards so she could have a choice. I like how this request fit right in with my alphabet series…L is for Light. Here’s my first card:

The card base is 4 1/4 x 11 Whisper White scored at 5 1/2. I was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest by Brandy Cox. I stamped the swirl around the outside of the card in Night of Navy ink.

The image and sentiment are stamped on a piece of 3 x 4 whisper white and layered on a piece of 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 Soft Sky and 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 Night of Navy.  There are so many great sentiments and images in this set! The photopolymer stamps make it is easy to do two-step stamping. I used Soft Sky ink to fill the image and then added a rhinestone and Wink of Stella for a little sparkle. The layered piece is adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I love how this stamp set has several sentiments that go together for the front and inside of cards! It was fun to stamp the images on the inside to coordinate.

A simple, clean card that is easy to duplicate! Here’s the matching envelope.

I thought I would add a little sparkle to my next card with some Silver Glimmer Paper. I love Glimmer Paper and every time I use it on a card I wonder why I don’t use it more!

I love Navy and White…so classic! I did the same two step stamping on the layered piece but this time I added the swirl in Soft Sky. The Whisper White piece measures 3 1/2 x 4 3/4 and the Silver Glimmer Paper is 1/8″ larger. The inside has the same swirl in Soft Sky with the sentiment stamped in Night of Navy.
