Color Theory Made Easy!

The new Annual Catalog is live and filled with inspiration! Several people have reached out about how different this new catalog is compared to past Stampin’ Up! catalogs.  I agree, it is different. And I’ll admit I am not one who always likes change. I have to say there are things that I love about this new catalog and there are things I am going to have to get used to. The more I look through it the more things I find to appreciate. My best tip is check the Index in the back! I open to that first and decide where I need to go to find what I’m looking for. You can click on the image below to view the catalog online.

One of my favorite things in the new catalog can be found on page 132.
Stampin' Up! Color Wheel-visit juststampin.com for color inspiration, handmade cards, and more-Jeanie Stark StampinUp
This is a wonderful resource! I love how this color wheel shows Stampin’ Up! colors! If you follow my blog, you know I just wrapped up a series on color. I went through the alphabet sharing color comparisons and color inspiration with Stampin’ Up! colors from A-Z. I had so much fun exploring different colors and combinations. You can view my ABC COLOR series under categories (along the side bar). Click on the dropdown menu and select ABC COLOR. (You’ll also see my other ABC Series if you are looking for more inspiration.) *If you are reading this in your email you’ll need to click on the blog post title to view my blog online to see the categories menu.

Color is at the heart of crafting! From color wheels to color families, you can be a color explorer and try something new. Plus, discover our new 2024–2026 In Colors and add them to your collection.

On page 133 in the catalog you will find a great visual for selecting colors. I love this!!! It’s like hitting the EASY button!

*Note-Throughout the catalog you will notice a mini color wheel above some of the samples indicating the color combo chosen. Another cool feature of this new catalog!

What’s your favorite or most used way to combine colors? Do you like monochromatic, complementary, analogous, or triadic? I would love to hear from you! Leave a comment below and share your favorite color combo. I am a big fan of monochromatic! I also tend to choose analogous and complementary. I have to say triadic is probably the colors I chose the least. I’d use those colors more for kids cards. That’s just me/my style. One of the posts I shared during my ABC Color Series was on Color Buddies. If you missed that post, you can view it HERE.

I have some color resources to share with you that I love and use! First, is the Color Coach. The Color Coach includes cards with sample color combinations for the Stampin’ Up! Colors:

I cut the color coach apart and adhere it on the back of a 2 3/4 x 4 1/4 color swatch. I organize them on a binder ring by rainbow color. I update each year with the new In Colors. This is one of my most used tools when creating!

Craft Room Organization & Tips

January has been a busy month! Getting the product shares ordered, cut, packaged, and shipped was my first order of business! After that I had a bunch of thank you cards and gifts to make and send as well as my calendar card kits and monthly tutorials. Then I decided it was time to tackle my New Year’s resolution to clean up and reorganize my craft room. It’s still a work in progress but, I am happy with the results so far and can’t wait to create more projects! (It is so nice when I can find what I need!) I thought I would share a few pictures of my room as well as some storage ideas and tips in case organization is on your “To Do List” this year.

I have a hodgepodge of furniture, baskets, etc. to keep me organized. I keep my die cutting machine out because I use it all the time.  My embossing folders and dies are stored beside it for easy access. I put a little green sticker on current products then, when it retires, I simply remove the sticker and decide if it is something I will keep or get rid of. (I purchase what I love so as you can see I keep a lot!)

Current stamp sets are stored alphabetically above my work area. They are stored in photo boxes to keep them from falling over. My retired (but loved) stamp sets are organized by themes (baby, birthday, holidays, seasonal, sentiments, thank you, wedding, etc.). An old bookcase/desk that belonged to my grandmother works great for my theme organization. I also found this DVD storage rack at our school’s rummage sale and love that it holds a lot of stamp sets!

The hanging basket storage works great for storing my DSP swatch books, adhesives, and embellishments right at my fingertips beside my desk.

I found this mail sorter at a second hand shop and love it for storing my 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock. It’s organization and decor all in one!

My 12 x 12 cardstock and DSP is stored in plastic magazine files I purchased online from Amazon.

img_4111

I am in the process of trying to use up my stash of DSP.  (I have to stop hoarding it when it goes on clearance.)  I try to remember my mom’s advice, “A sale is not a sale if you don’t need it!” I find it’s always a fine line between want and need.  LOL (*I’ve been working on a project that uses 12 x 12 DSP which I’ll share later this week.)

I also have (and love) many products from Stamp N Storage.  They are high quality and designed especially for Stampin’ Up products! They offer so many storage options for ink pads, blends, punches, dies, ribbons, and more!  Here’s some of my favorite Stamp ‘N Storage products…

However, I can’t say enough about how these quality products help me stay organized and highly recommend them.

Organization is personal. What works for someone else may not work for you.  Understand how you craft and what works best for you. Here’s 5 organization tips from Mary at Stamp ‘N Storage:

 Craft Room Organization Tips

  1. Prioritize space for the things you use most. You want to have quick, easy access to these items.
  2. Let go of unnecessary things. If you haven’t touched it in ten, five, even two years it is taking up precious space for what you are currently working on. It is OK to get rid of things.
  3. Do a little every day. It helps a huge task seem more manageable and helps you stay organized once you get there.
  4. Put things away where they belong or find a place for it. Resist the urge to just shove stuff somewhere to deal with “later”. When later comes you will be overwhelmed and it will take a lot longer to deal with.
  5. Put things away after you use them.

I have the hardest time with #5! I’m working on #2. What about you? I’d love to hear from you! Leave me a comment with something you found useful from today or share an organization tip you use.  I’ll pick a random winner to receive some retired goodies (tip #2 above).

P is for Perfectly Plaid and Pine Tree Punch

Welcome to my ABC Holiday 2019 Series! Throughout this series I will be sharing all kinds of cards, gifts, and ideas to help make your holidays as easy as ABC! I’ve been making a lot of 3D projects lately so I decided to share a quick & easy card today using the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set, Pine Tree Punch, and Wrapped in Plaid 6 x 6 Specialty Designer Series Paper. (Now that’s a lot of P’s!!!)

Stampin' Up! Perfectly Plaid stamp set and Pine Tree Punch Christmas card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I’ll get right to the details:

Measurements

  • Shaded Spruce card base:  5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Mint Macaron cardstock: 3″ x 5 1/2″
  • Whisper White: 2 1/2″ x 4″ to stamp 2 trees, 4″ x 5 1/4″ for inside card
  • Wrapped in Plaid 6 x 6 DSP: 3″ x 5 1/2″, 3 x 6 for envelope flap
  • Gold Foil: 2 pieces at 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scraps to cut 3 stars

Directions

  • Punch 3 trees from the Mint Macaron cardstock with the Pine Tree Punch.
  • Adhere the Mint Macaron to the DSP.
  • Adhere the Gold Foil strips to the top and bottom of the Mint Macaron.
  • Stamp the sentiment in Versamark ink along the bottom of the card base and heat emboss with Gold Embossing Powder. *I masked the top part of the sentiment.
  • Adhere the mint macaron layered piece to the card base.
  • Stamp the two trees in Shaded Spruce Ink. Stamp the leaves on top in Mint Macaron ink. Punch both trees out with the Pine Tree Punch and adhere to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Cut 3 stars from Gold Foil using Stitched Stars Dies. Adhere to top of trees with Liquid Glue.
  • Add Red Rhinestone Jewels to stamped trees.

  • Punch the envelope flap of a Gold Foil-Edged Envelope with the Pine Tree Punch.
  • Adhere the 3 x 6 DSP inside the envelope flap so the plaid pattern is showing through the punched tree.

I’d like to give a shout out to Linda Heller (stampingschool.com) for this card design.  I saved it back in 2014 and can’t believe it has taken me this long to CASE it! I really like how it turned out and love that it was so quick & easy!

Here’s a look at the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set and Pine Tree Punch which I used to make this card. (*You can purchase these as a bundle and save 10%.)
