The wishing well reminds me of my childhood.  We had a wishing well in the middle of our side lawn and it served as second base for many kickball and softball games. I remember tossing pennies in the well and making a wish! Here’s a photo of me standing by our wishing well when I was 5.

I couldn’t resist using a penny to hold my card “upright”.  Here’s the details how to make this unique fun fold.

My card base is 4 1/4 x 11 scored at 2 3/4 and 5 1/2.  The DSP is from Delightful Daisy. My pieces measure 4 x 5 1/4 and 4 x 2 1/2.  The stamped panel is 3 x 4 layered with 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 Basic Black.

I liked it in the black and white but then decided to color it using the watercolor pencils and blender pen.

Which way do you like it…black & white or colored?

Here’s the side view.

This really is quick & easy to make. Just make sure when adhering your stamped panel you only put adhesive on the bottom half.  I attached the penny with a Stampin’ Dimensional to hold the card upright. You could easily stamp a sentiment and pop it up to hold your panel.  I chose to stamp my sentiment on the back for this card.

I really like the sentiments in this set…the different choices make it versatile for many occasions.

T is for Tunnel Fold

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series. Today’s fun fold is a Tunnel card.  It is so cool when you open it up to reveal the “tunnel” on the inside of the card.

I love lighthouses! When I first saw the High Tide Stamp Set I knew I had to have it. I enjoy visiting lighthouses during our travels and learning the history of each. I made this card for my husband for Father’s Day.  I am usually very last minute; however, this year I am going to be away for Father’s Day so I needed to make his card before I left. I love this sentiment from High Tide…it works for Father’s Day as well as other occasions. Parenting is not always easy and it helps to have someone to support you with the tough decisions. I feel like we got lucky in the kid department…we are blessed with two wonderful children and we are so proud of both of them.

Let’s get to today’s card…

You need two 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ sheets of card stock. The “window” piece is scored at 2-1/8, 4-1/4″ & 6-3/8″. I used Shimmery White and Marina Mist.

img_3147

Die cut a window in the center of the window piece (I used the Layering Circles Framelits).

The “base” piece is stamped before folded in half. I did a watercolor wash on the top portion of my card using Soft Sky Ink and my Aqua Painter. I stamped the water with Marina Mist ink then sponged it with a sponge dauber.

img_3141

Adhere the left panel and the right panel of the window piece to the base piece.

Decorate the front of the card as you like.  I used Shimmery White cardstock and did the same watercolor wash, stamping, and sponging as I did on the inside. I used Sahara Sand around the base of my lighthouse. The lighthouse is a two step stamp.  I used Dapper Denim and Smoky Slate then fussy cut the lighthouse.

img_3146

I stamped the sentiment from Crazy About You in Marina Mist and layered this piece on a piece of 4 x 5 1/4 Marina Mist. I wrapped some Linen Thread and tied and bow before adhering it to the card base. It really is a simple card with a WOW factor when you open it! Some simple stamping on the envelope flap and it’s done! (A week ahead…I think this might be a record for me!! LOL)

During my last alphabet series I had a quiz for the letter Q.  The school year is almost over so it’s time for a test. Let’s have some fun for a chance to win a special treat. (Yes, only a teacher would think taking a test is fun!) Below are some photos from a few of the lighthouses I have visited during our travels. Leave a comment with your answers and I will choose a winner using random.org. Good Luck!

  1. Where was the first lighthouse built in the United States? (Hint: It is the state where I grew up.)
  2. What is the name of the lighthouse pictured below and where is it located? (Hint: It is the tallest lighthouse in the U.S.)

I hope you enjoyed these photos of different lighthouses. I apologize for the quality… I was in a hurry and just took a photo of a photo for these directly from my scrapbooks. (I wish I was a better photographer!)   I hope this inspires you to have fun with the High Tide Stamp Set! Don’t forget to leave a comment with your answers.  I will announce the winner on Monday.  You have until 11 pm (EST) Sunday evening to enter!

L is for a Lever Fun Fold with Butterfly Basics

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series.  Today I have a Lever Card for you. Spring is in the air and we released our butterflies at school today.  My Pre-K students love this every year!  We’ve watched them change from caterpillars to butterflies and now it was time to let them go. I was drawn to the Butterfly Basics stamp set for my fun fold card today.

I decided to use one of the new In Colors, Lemon Lime Twist, to go with the letter of the day.  I really didn’t think I was going to like this color but, after pairing it with black with last month’s Paper Pumpkin and now with Dapper Denim, it is really growing on me. I think sometimes it just takes the right color combination.  I often get asked how I choose the colors.  Most of the time I get my inspiration from clothing, bedding, home decor, magazines, HGTV, or our Designer Series Paper packs. For this card I chose the colors from the Eastern Palace Designer Series Paper.  I love the way the paper packs have the coordinating colors printed right on the pack.  Makes it so easy!  I used the DSP to cut my butterfly from the Butterflies Thinlits. I cut another butterfly from vellum using the Bold Butterfly Framelits and adhered the two with glue dots.

img_2544

Then I pulled the colors from the DSP to make the card.  The card base is Lemon Lime Twist cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and scored at 4 1/4.  I cut a piece of 5 x 6 Very Vanilla for the inside and scored it at 2 and 4.  I used the Layering Squares Framelits to cut a square out of the front of my card.

img_2540

I also used the Layering Squares Framelits to cut 3 squares the colors of my butterfly.  I stamped the top layer using the fern from the Butterfly Basics Stamp Set and Lemon Lime Twist Ink. I stamped the inside and front of my card using sentiments from this set and Dapper Denim Ink.

Next, I applied adhesive to the back of the inside sentiment panel only and adhered it to the inside of the card.  Then I closed the card and applied adhesive just where the inside piece peeks through the front and attached the layered squares inside the square.

I attached the butterfly with some glue dots and added a few rhinestones. This card sits nice on a desk or shelf.  I also like that there’s a nice panel to sign the card.

Here’s a short video showcasing the Butterfly Basics and Butterfly Thinlits Dies. *This is an older video.  She uses the magnetic plate and wax paper to cut out the butterfly die.  I highly recommend the Precision Base Plate and the thin die adapter.  I was able to cut my butterfly out easily just running it through the Big Shot once.  Much easier with better results!!!

She made some adorable cards with this stamp set and dies and you can too!  If you would like to purchase any of the materials I used on my card today, please Click HERE to visit my online store.
