E is for Embossing Folders

Welcome to my ABC “Sale-A-Bration” Series! This series showcases products from the 2018 Occasions catalog and Sale-A-Bration brochures. Today is all about Embossing Folders. Embossing adds so much texture to your projects and they are a great bang for your buck! Previously, I shared a card I made with the new Basket Weave Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (which is included in the Blossoming Basket Bundle) featured in the new Sale-A-Bration release. There are 3 new embossing folders featured in the Occasions catalog: Petal Pair, Simple Stripes, and Scattered Sequins.

EF Petal Pair

Today I’m showcasing my favorite, Petal Pair. I love that you get 2 beautiful folders in this set! I made 3 cards to share with you using the floral design. There are so many ways you can use this embossing folder to get different looks. It is perfect on it’s own or you can use different techniques to add color.

Card #1

Stampin Up Perennial Birthday Stamp Set and Petal Pair birthday or all occasion card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

This card is clean & simple and shows how gorgeous this floral design is all on its own. I embossed “celebrate” from the Celebrations Duo found in the annual catalog. (I could have used the Celebrate You Thinlits Die from the Sale-A-Bration catalog but I wanted to keep it all about embossing today.) *It is important to emboss celebrate first then the floral folder otherwise you would crush some of the flowers along the top with the embossing folder. (I bet you can guess how I learned that one!) I thought the sentiment from the Perennial Birthday Stamp Set was the perfect saying for this card and I love the way it curves with the embossed flowers. This shows how quick & easy it is to achieve a clean & simple card to celebrate any occasion! I chose Pool Party and Night of Navy for my colors and added a bow with the Crinkled Seam Binding. The embossed layer measures 3 3/4 x 5 and the next layer is just 1/8 larger.

For this card I decided to add color to the embossed flowers using my sponge daubers and ink. I love how this is a completely different look even though the layout is the same! This was quick & easy to do and I love the soft Spring look. It would be a great card to give with a pot (or bouquet) of flowers to someone for any occasion. I have several friends and family members with March birthdays and this would be perfect for them.

I wanted to use my Stampin’ Blends for this last one. (I should have started this post with “Welcome to Day 4 of my coloring therapy!” LOL ) I have to confess that this card did not work out the way I had envisioned but, I am pleased with the final result. (Sometimes it’s just trial and error!) I opened the embossing folder and inked the back (the side without the Sizzix label) with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and put my paper on top. Then I ran it through the Big Shot. The result was a big mess with ink where it shouldn’t be!

Plan B to the rescue! I redid the embossing then colored the flowers on the messy one with my Stampin’ Blends and fussy cut around the flowers with my paper snips.

I love how the colors pop with the black outline. I colored this a little different than I usually do with my Blends. I only used one color instead of both the light and dark shades. Then I went back with the Color Lifter to get the different shades.

I have been enjoying some “coloring therapy” lately. I love my Stampin’ Blends and used them to color the beautiful designs on the DSP.

Both of these cards showcase simple layouts that you can use again and again with different DSP and sentiments.

The sentiment on this card from Butterfly Basics. It is so versatile and can be used for birthday, Easter, Mother’s Day, Get Well, etc. I like the Powder Pink with the Rose Gold foil. The DSP measures 3 1/4 x 3 1/2 and the layer is 1/8″more. I used the Layering Ovals Framelits to cut and layer my stamped sentiment. I colored the flower from the DSP using Old Olive and Pink Pirouette Blends. I fussy cut it out and adhered with Stampin Dimensionals. Clean & Simple!

My next card showcases the other two patterns from this DSP as well as my favorite dies from Sale-A-Bration, Celebrate You.

This is another clean & simple card design. It’s just 2 pieces of DSP ( 2 x 4) with a ribbon in the middle to cover the seam. (You could add a banner instead of the ribbon.) I love the Celebrate word die as it can be used for many different occasions. The silver foil die ties in with the foil in the DSP as well as the metallic ribbon. I added a couple of vellum punched leaves behind the sentiment.

I used the Pool Party Blends to color the leaves to tie in with the card base.

Here’s another version of this card. It could be for a wedding, shower, engagement, or anniversary. I added the die cut heart from Sunshine Wishes Thinlits and a couple of metallic enamel hearts. Quick & easy!

Blossoming Basket for Tic Tac Toe Challenge #36

Today’s card features the new Blossoming Basket Bundle which is FREE during Sale-A-Bration with a qualifying order! This is such a versatile set as it can be used for just about any occasion…birthday, sympathy, get well, thank you…or just a card to give someone with a bouquet (or basket) of flowers to let them know you’re thinking of them.

I stamped the basket on Whisper White with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. I used Stampin’ Blends (Stampin’ Up!’s premier alcohol markers) to color. Oh what fun it is to color with these markers! It is so easy and it amazes me every time! It makes me feel like an artist the way they add depth and shading. I realize these markers are a bit of an investment but trust me, it will be money well spent! You don’t need to start out with all of them. Get Old Olive and one or two of your favorite colors along with the Color Lifter to start. I do recommend buying the combo packs so you have the light and dark shades of each color. I wanted to be able to use this card for any occasion so I only inked up part of the sentiment (for you). That leaves me free to use any sentiment on the inside depending on occasion. I often make cards and leave the inside blank until I know who the recipient will be. I can’t wait to get my Stamparatus this week! I will be stamping a bunch of these baskets to color. Research has shown how therapeutic coloring can be (which is probably why adult coloring has become the rage). It is definitely my therapy of choice! (Not that I don’t appreciate the progress I have made due to my Physical Therapists but, coloring is pain free!)

The other feature of this bundle is the Basket Weave Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. WOW! Not only is that a mouthful but it really is dynamic! It adds so much texture to a project! This is a thick embossing folder so you only use one clear plate instead of two when making your “sandwich” for the Big Shot. I embossed the front of my Crumb Cake card base. Here’s a close up so you can really see the texture!

I knew I had to have this stamp set and embossing folder the minute I saw it! I love baskets and have a collection in my craft room where I store many of my Stampin’ Up supplies to keep them organized and handy.

This card would have been great for my alphabet series…B is for Blossoming Basket Bundle and Blends; however, I made it using elements from this week’s Tic Tac Toe Challenge! I went right down the middle with butterfly, green, twine. It really is fun choosing elements from the board to create! I hope you will give it a try and play along!
