F is for Family

Welcome to my ABC Holiday Series! Holidays are all about celebrating different occasions with family and friends! Many people send family photo cards for the holidays. I like to take a photo and add a personal touch to make my own holiday cards for family and friends. I send a lot of cards so I need it to be simple and this gate fold card with a belly band is just that…quick & easy!

Stampin Up Snowflake Sentiments Christmas card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I love to make fun fold cards and the gate fold is one of the easiest! The card base is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and scored at 2 1/8 on each end. I used Whisper White as my card base and added (2) 2 x 5 1/2 strips of Year of Cheer Specialty Designer Series Paper.  I wanted to get the most cuts from my 12 x 12 DSP so I added some silver washi tape from the Year of Cheer Specialty Washi Tape down the sides. You could use silver foil or just leave it white.  I like the added sparkle to tie in with the DSP and other silver elements.

The belly band is my favorite part! I cut a 3 x 10 Night of Navy cardstock and wrapped it around my card (creasing it as I went) and secured the ends with Fast Fuse on the back. I stamped my sentiment from the Snowflake Sentiments Stamp Set on Whisper White using Night of Navy ink. (I love this sentiment for a photo card!)  I cut it out using the Stitched Shapes Framelits and layered it on a silver foil circle I cut using the Layering Circles Framelits. I use my shape framelits all the time!  (These are on my list of favorite things!) I wrapped some Silver Metallic Edge Ribbon (LOVE THIS!) around my belly band and tied a bow. The ribbon makes the card in my opinion! I added a glue dot under the ribbon to keep it secure.

It is easy to just slide the belly band off to open the card.

I like that the gate fold card allows you to display the card so you can see the photo on the inside.  You can stamp a sentiment on the side or add a handwritten note.

With my children in two different states it gets harder and harder to get everyone together.  (The photo was taken during our summer vacation.)  I am looking forward to the holidays this year! We will be traveling to Massachusetts to celebrate with all 25 family members.  YEA!!!

Here are a few more Christmas photo card ideas from previous years.

I made a fold over flap for this photo collage I had printed at CVS. (Talk about quick & easy!!) Click on the image to see the original post with directions.

B is for Blessings

Welcome to my ABC Holiday Series! Count My Blessings is one of my favorite new stamp sets in the Holiday Catalog! I love everything about this set…the font, sentiments, and the beautiful images! Most people send out Christmas cards but I also like to send out cards for Thanksgiving. I come from a large family and I consider my siblings the best gift my parents ever gave me! I feel blessed and even though I will be missing the big family Thanksgiving back home, I want them to know how much I appreciate having them in my life! These cards are great for Thanksgiving or anytime of the year!

Stampin Up Count My Blessings Thanksgiving card Idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I love the beautiful floral and will be making it in different colors for each of my sisters. I didn’t think the men in my life would want flowers so I used the acorn and leaf stamp for a masculine look. This stamp set is so versatile!

Stampin Up Count My Blessings Stamp Set is great for fall or anytime of year to let others know you are thinking of them. For card ideas visit www.juststampin.com Jeanie Stark StampinUp
Count My Blessings Stamp Set Item #144790 $20

The layout on both cards is basically the same…I adhered a 2 x 5 1/4 strip of Painted Autumn DSP to my card base.  I stamped the floral and acorn images on Shimmery White cardstock and used my blender pen and inks to color.  I cut the flower image out with the Layering Ovals Framelits and layered it on a piece of cardstock cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  I fussy cut the acorns. The sentiments are stamped with Basic Black Archival ink. The images are popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I added some ribbon and Linen Thread for texture. I punched some vellum leaves and adhered with glue dots behind the layered flowers. I have a parade of photos for you.

I love that I am ahead of the game for Thanksgiving.  This time of year gets so busy and this is one of those cards you can make a bunch of in no time!

I have a few more “blessings” I thought I would share with you that I’ve shared previously.  One is my Blessings Mix. (Click HERE for my “recipe”.)  I make this every year as a table favor for Thanksgiving.  The only that that changes from year to year is the packaging.  I’m using the pillow boxes from last month’s Paper Pumpkin Layered Leaves kit. (I told you this was my favorite kit! Refill are still available!)

Stampin Up Paper Pumpkin Thanksgiving Table Favor idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

These are the same boxes I used for the Advent boxes I shared yesterday yet they look so different.  I love the versatility of these boxes! (They are also great for giving gift cards or monetary gifts.)

Another “blessing” I shared previously is my Blessings Jar.  I made one last year for New Years.  (You can read that post HERE.)  My intention was for my whole family to write notes throughout the year and put them in the jar but I seem to be the only one who has added to the jar.  That’s OK because (unknown to them) I have added for them throughout the year. They have shared different events and happenings in their life during our conversations and I added them to the jar.  I had hoped to share the notes at Thanksgiving this year but with my children in two different states and my husband and I in Maryland, I will wait until we are all together.  I have enjoyed adding to it all year and I love the idea of sharing and reflecting on our many blessings. Writing it down helps because often times I forget things (and the older I get the more often that seems to happen.) There are times in our lives when we all get “down in the dumps”. I have opened the jar throughout the year and reread some of the notes and it has not only cheered me up but reminded me of all the blessings in my life. This would be a great gift idea to give to family and friends! There is so much to be thankful for and this is a good way to focus on the positive!

I hope you are feeling blessed today!

My Favorite Holiday for the PALS Blog Hop

Welcome to the Pals September 2017 Blog Hop. Thank you so much for joining us today. This month our theme is “My Favorite Holiday”.  Sit back and enjoy the view while the Pals treat you with projects for the upcoming Autumn and Winter holidays.

Whether you’re just starting the hop, or have come from a previous Pal’s blog, you’ll find the line-up toward the end of my post to help you move along.

Stampin Up Spooky Night gift idea using Clear Acetate box, Pick a Pattern Washi Tape, and Spooky Night Designer Series Paper - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Every holiday is my favorite holiday! I decided to share a fun Halloween treat that is a great alternative to candy. So many kids nowadays have allergies so I thought this would be a different treat that also works as a fun game-to-go for the car. I love the acetate boxes in the holiday catalog and seem to be using them for more than just cards. (You can click HERE to see another project I made with these boxes.)

I used several different designs from the Spooky Night Designer Series Paper for this project. There are so many fun patterns to choose from!

Coordinating Colors: Basic Black, Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie, Very Vanilla

I adhered a 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 piece of DSP inside the acetate box with glue dots. I made the tic tac toe board on top with Pick A Pattern Washi Tape. The cute cat and jack-o-lantern erasers came from the Dollar Tree.

Stampin Up Spooky Night gift idea using Clear Acetate box, Pick a Pattern Washi Tape, and Spooky Night Designer Series Paper - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I cut a 4 1/2 x 12 piece of DSP to make a belly band to wrap the gift. I cut and adhered (2) 1/2 x 12 strips of coordinating DSP to the top and bottom of the belly band and simply wrapped it around the box and adhered in the back. I cut circles in Very Vanilla and Black using the Stitched Shapes Framelits and Layering Circles Framelits. I punched the cat from the DSP using the cat punch. The jack-o-lantern is fussy cut from another piece of DSP. The bakers twine makes a nice cat collar and the Basic Black Shimmer Ribbon ties is all together for a nice presentation.

I adhered these to the circles cut from the Stitched Shapes Framelits and Layering Circles Framelits.

It’s easy to just slide the belly band off to open.  The game pieces store inside the acetate box and are ready to play wherever you go!

This Halloween treat will last a lot longer than candy! It is a simple and inexpensive little treat to give. You can easily adapt this for different holidays by simply changing the DSP and erasers.  It would make a great stocking gift for Christmas or use different colored hearts for Valentine’s Day for a “lovely” little gift. Think of the possibilities that could go “inside the box”.
