Today’s post is a little different than normal. I surprised my mom by writing the blog for her today. I wanted her to have a day off. This is the card I made for her birthday yesterday.

This card was very quick and easy to assemble, but don’t tell my mom that. I started with a traditional size card base in Smoky Slate. As I am not as gifted as my mom in color selection I used the Stampin’ Up color guide to help me pick a color.

Once I saw the two options, it was an obvious choice. I decided on the top color option which is Smoky Slate paired with Daffodil Delight and Whisper White. My mom loves the color yellow so Daffodil Delight it was.
Next came the job of deciding on the layers. Eventually, I settled on an embossed Whisper White with a floral design because a card in Daffodil Delight just needs flowers. The Whisper White cardstock was 5 X 3 3/4. I adhered this to the base with the TOMBO liquid glue because I appreciate the time it gives you to wiggle the layer till it is straight.
I knew before I even walked in my mom’s craft room that I wanted to heat emboss. So using the Birthday Blooms stamp set, VersaMark ink, and silver embossing powder, I heat embossed her saying on a leftover piece of Whisper White paper.

I used oval framelits to cut out the saying and the curvy oval framelit to cut out a border in Daffodil Delight.
Now it was time for some embellishment! I used a scrap piece Daffodil Delight DSP (what an alliteration) cut to 4 1/4 X 3/4 layered on top of the embossed Whisper White and Smoky Slate base. The DSP strip was also adhered using the TOMBO liquid glue.
Finally, it was time for some finishing touches. I punched out some flowers which I tried my best to curl up for some 3D pop. Then I just had to add some rhinestones for the center of the flowers. Not only did it add a little sparkle but it helped to tie in the heat embossed silver saying.
I left the inside blank in order to have space to write a note to my mom.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
