Cool Treats

Stampin Up Cool Treats Gift Card Holder idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Today’s gift card holder is made using the Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits and the Cool Treats Bundle. I find most teenagers hard to buy for.  They usually just want/need money.  I prefer to give a gift certificate or gift card and enjoy making fun cards to go with them.  After a ballgame the kids like to go to the local Friendly’s for a bite to eat and/or ice cream.  I chose the colors for my card from the gift card and Tasty Treats Specialty Designer Series Paper.

People often ask me how I choose my color combinations.  I get inspiration everywhere…clothes, bedding, home decor, catalogs, and even gift cards.  When I looked at this gift card, Watermelon Wonder and Peekaboo Peach popped out at me.  I pulled out cardstock in those 2 colors to start and made my gift card holder with a piece of 6 x 6 Peekaboo Peach.

Then I needed a belly band so I flipped through my designer series paper swatches (which I purchase from my upline, Susan Itell at simplestampin.com).  I keep them in a basket in my craft area and refer to them all the time!!

I thought the sprinkles pattern from the Tasty Treats Designer Series Paper would be perfect for this card.  The belly band measures 1 1/4 x 9.  I wrapped it loosely around the gift card holder and secured it with Fast Fuse adhesive.  (You want to make sure you have room for the gift card and can move it easily on and off.)

Next, I chose colors from the DSP to cut my ice cream scoops using the Frozen Treats Framelits. I cut the dish from another piece of DSP and popped it all up with Stampin’ Dimensionals on a Whisper White circle I cut from the Layering Circles Framelits.

My projects seem to evolve as I work. I decided to emboss the inside of the card holder using the Confetti Embossing Folder to tie in the sentiment I wanted to use and the sprinkles on the DSP. My Whisper White measures 2 1/2 x 3 3/4.  I layered it on a piece of 2 5/8 x 3 7/8 Watermelon Wonder and adhered it to the inside of the card.

I hope today’s project inspires you to look for inspiration all around you.  I often sit down with an idea of what I want to make and half the time the project I end up with isn’t at all what I originally planned.  Don’t be afraid to use what you have and let your project evolve as you go.  I’m usually happy with the end result and the recipient doesn’t know I didn’t make what I originally planned.

Something Old, Something New

Stampin’ Up! So in Love Bundle (available Jan. 4th)

I made this card and gift card holder for my niece who is getting married in February.  Her bridal shower was earlier this month and even though I was unable to attend, I wanted to make her something special. I used something “old” (Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits) and something “new”(products from the Falling in Love Suite: So in Love Stamp Set, So Detailed Thinlits Dies, Falling in Love Designer Series Paper, Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon, Falling in Love Embellishments).

I made the card at the Stampin’ Up On Stage Convention earlier this month. We did several Make ‘n Takes using some of the new product that will be in the 2017 Occasions catalog.  The Falling in Love Designer Series Paper features bokeh patterns-a blurred look created by out-of-focus, clustered shapes. I love the different patterns!

This suite is really gorgeous! You will be able to purchase the stamp set and dies as a bundle and save 10%.

I used the die to make a matching belly band for my gift card holder. I cut my die, wrapped it around my envelope, and adhered it to a 1 3/8 x 4 inch strip of Very Vanilla cardstock. I left it a little loose so it will be able to slide on and off.  I stamped the flowers (to match the DSP) in Sweet Sugarplum ink on a piece of Very Vanilla that measures 2 5/8 x 3 3/4. I stamped the sentiment from the B.Y.O.P. Stamp Set in Sahara Sand ink and used the Sahara Sand marker to personalize the front of the gift card holder.

I love the way it all coordinates and makes a nice gift presentation.

E is for Envelopes

Welcome to my ABC’s of Stampin’ series. Today we’re talking Envelope Envy. I love the quality of the Stampin’ Up envelopes. Trust me, you can feel the difference. Also, our envelopes match our Very Vanilla and Whisper White Cardstock.  Who knew there were different shades of white?!  I’m all about matchy matchy and when you can see and feel the difference I always go with quality.  Let’s face it, we put a lot of effort and love in to making our homemade cards, our envelopes deserve the same.  If you’ve been following my blog, you know I always make coordinating envelopes to go with my cards.  I decorate my envelopes many different ways…I stamp, emboss, watercolor, add DSP or washi tape, or make my own.

Here’s a video using one of my favorite tools…the Envelope Punch Board.  You can easily make any size custom envelope with this tool.

The Envelope Punch Board is not just for envelopes either…you can make so many treat holders with this and it also has a corner rounder! I made these tea bag holders using the Envelope Punch Board!

We traveled to England last July and knowing how the English like their tea, I stocked up.  I like the way this makes a nice little presentation to give to someone.

Here’s a candy treat holder I made using the Envelope Punch Board!

Stampin’ Up! also has Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits which makes gift giving (especially for teenagers) quick & easy. Win! Win!  Here’s a short video showing how to make them.

Here’s a card and matching gift card holder I made for a friend using the thinlits.

As you can see there are a lot of options for decorating envelopes. And if that isn’t enough, Stampin’ Up! also has clear envelopes.  Did you know you can mail your cards in clear envelopes?  And it doesn’t cost anything extra! I use clear envelopes a lot to protect my cards that I make to sell or display. You can also use them to dress up a plain gift bag for a quick gift.  Just attach the clear envelope to the bag with Tear & Tape and slide your card in.  No lost cards at parties this way!
