Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for October 2016. We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our new 2016 Blog Hop monthly themes. This month our projects feature cards made using “wicked” folds. What is a “wicked” fold? It is anything other than the standard A2 card fold. We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and that you enjoy our creations.
You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below. The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

I grew up in Massachusetts and “wicked” is just a part of Massachusetts vocabulary. When I moved people thought it was strange when I would say something was “wicked good”. I was so excited when I saw the theme for this month’s blog hop and couldn’t wait to make a “wicked” fun fold card. I belong to a book club and tonight is our monthly meeting. I love getting together with this group of ladies and discussing the different books we read (Yes, we really do read and discuss the books! My sister thought it was just a cover for a Girl’s Night Out! LOL). One of our members is going to be moving so I made this fun fold “Pop Up Book” card for her.

Kelly does not like to read on a Kindle or other electronic device. She prefers a hard cover book so I wanted to make her card look like it had a hard cover binding. We used to teach together and I thought this looked just like a book she would enjoy reading. I used two of my favorite stamp sets to make this card, Sheltering Tree and Wild About Flowers (for the inside sentiment). I followed a cutting template designed by Di Barnes (which she adapted from a card shared by Deb Valder) and then I adapted it a little myself to get a finished card that measures 5 x 5 1/4.
I sponged a piece of 4 x 5 Whisper White card stock with Soft Sky ink. Then I stamped my sentiment and tree branches with Early Espresso. I stamped off to get different variations of color in the trees. I used Pear Pizzazz to stamp the leaves and grass. I adhered this to my 5 x 10 1/2 Early Espresso card base. My inside piece also measures 5 x 10 1/2 which I cut and scored. First I lined my Pear Pizzazz cardstock at the 3/4 mark to the right of my trimmer. I placed my trimmer blade at the 1 1/4″ mark and cut from 1 1/4 to 9 1/4. I flipped my paper and repeated the same cut on the other side.
Next comes the scoring. First I scored from one cut line to the other on each side. Start by lining your paper with the long side at the top at 1 1/4″. Position your score blade at 3/4″ and score from 3/4 to 4 1/4 and then move your paper to 2″ and score again from 3/4 to 4 1/4. Flip your paper over and repeat so both sides are scored. Next score the center of your card stock from top to bottom at 5 1/4″. Then score above the cut lines by placing paper at 3 1/4″ and score from the top of the paper to the cut line and from the bottom of the paper up to the cut line. Move your paper to the 7 1/4″ mark and repeat scoring from the top of the paper to the cut line and from the bottom of the paper up to the cut line.
Gently fold to get mountain and valley folds to look like this.
Glue this to the card base. See photo below for where to apply glue on each end.
I stamped the tree and sentiment on Sky Blue Designer Series Paper. I wanted to use the script for the inside of my book. Both pieces measure 3 x 3 1/4 and are layered on 3 1/8 x 3 3/8 Whisper White. I cut and scored two pieces of 1 3/8 x 3 3 /8 Whisper White to make it look like the pages in the book. (Sorry for the poor photo.)
I think this Pop Up Book Card is perfect for my book club friend. I’m just sorry that she is moving away.

I took this photo when I was in Massachusetts to share with my friends who laugh when I say something is “wicked”. How many people can say they grew up with “Wicked Good Books”?

I hope you will check back tomorrow as I continue with the ABC’s with DSP!
