Several years ago a student of mine gave me a beautiful wreath. (I thought it was real!)  I collect different sentiment ornaments to decorate my trees, mantel, and throughout our home.  I even added a few on the wreath which provided the inspiration for today’s card. Here’s a picture of the wreath.

And here’s my card.

Stampin' Up! Itty Bitty Christmas and All-Around Wreath Dies inspirational Christmas card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I stamped several sentiments from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set and fussy cut around them to decorate my wreath.  I love the All-Around Wreath Dies and have cut them out in all different colors to play with!  I chose Pretty Peacock and Old Olive for this wreath as I wanted to use the Old Olive/Pretty Peacock Reversible Ribbon.  It has a sheen similar to the bow on my inspiration wreath. (Plus it’s just gorgeous!)

Here’s the details for today’s card:

Materials & Measurements

  • Real Red card base:  4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ for a square card
  • Old Olive: 2 cut at 3 3/4 x 3 3/4, 4 x 4 to cut wreath,  1/4 x 6, scraps to cut 8 sprigs
  • Whisper White: 2 cut at 3 5/8″ x 3 5/8″ scraps to stamp sentiments
  • Pretty Peacock: 4 x 4 to cut wreath
  • Soft Suede: scraps to cut 5 twigs
  • Regals 6 x 6 DSP: Real Red 2 x 6 for envelope flap
  • Pretty Peacock/Old Olive Reversible Ribbon: 18″

  • Adhere the Whisper White to Old Olive and then adhere to front and inside of card.
  • Cut wreaths in Old Olive and Pretty Peacock and adhere together (a little off centered) with a few Glue Dots.  Adhere to Whisper White panel with a few more Glue Dots.
  • Cut sprigs (from All-Around Wreath Dies) in Old Olive and twigs (from Flourish Dies) in Soft Suede.
  • Tie a bow with ribbon and adhere to top of wreath with a Glue Dot.
  • Stamp sentiments, fussy cut, and adhere around wreath with Glue Dots.
  • Use liquid glue to tuck in sprigs and twigs around wreath.
  • Add Red Rhinestones on twigs.Stampin' Up! Itty Bitty Christmas and All-Around Wreath Dies inspirational Christmas card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp
  • Stamp sentiment in Real Red on inside card.Stampin' Up! Itty Bitty Christmas Holiday card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp
  • This card will fit in a standard envelope to mail. To make a custom square envelope like mine, simply cut 1/2″ off each side of the standard envelope.  Remove the inside scraps and add a thin line of liquid glue along the inside and seal closed. So simple! *Note- the post office does charge extra for square packages. I don’t do this all the time and let’s face it…this is a special card.  It’s worth it!Learn how to make custom envelopes- visit juststampin.com for inspiration, tutorials, and to order Stampin' Up! products - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Happy Mail

Welcome to my weekend showcase! Today I am showcasing some cards I received from others over the last few weeks.  My heart skips a beat when I get the mail and see a card addressed to me! I love “Happy Mail”!

This card by Colleen is just stunning!  I am going to have to have her show me how she did such beautiful blending with her sponging.  After looking at this I need to practice more! She also used the masking technique. I like how the stamped images stand out against the background.

This sweet surprise was tucked inside Kathy’s card swap card with a little note thanking me for doing the card swap…so unexpected.  (I really enjoyed doing the card swap and getting to showcase everyone’s amazing talent!)  I love the custom envelope Kathy made and really like how she chose not to color everything which makes what she did color stand out!

I have never met Susan but she follows my blog and when she read it was my birthday she sent me this beautiful card.  I was so touched! Susan’s envelope caught my attention immediately!  I love how she stamped the back of the envelope with this stamp.  Did you know Stampin’ Up! sells this stamp? It is a single wood-mount stamp (item # 143573).  It is not in the catalog but is available to purchase online.  Join the movement to bring birthdays back—send handcrafted birthday cards to all your friends and family, and stamp the card and/or envelope with this trending hashtag to let them know they’re part of something cool! Click HERE to view and find out how the movement got started.

Anyone who purchases this stamp through my online store will receive a birthday card kit from me to get you started making and sending birthday cards.  Birthdays are special! Wouldn’t you rather get/give a handmade birthday card in the mail vs. a post on social media?

Let’s share some happy mail stories! Leave me a comment about some happy mail you sent or received.  I will pick a random winner to send some happy mail to!

Have a wonderful day!

A Moroccan Pinwheel Quilt

The other day I showcased the projects we made at our monthly card club.  I had a request for the directions to make the pinwheel quilt card.  I love playing with color and patterns.  I used the Moroccan Designer Series Paper to make my pinwheel quilt card for today.

My card is a 4 1/4″ square card.  Cut a piece of Emerald Envy cardstock 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 and score it at 4 1/4.  The pinwheel is a lot simpler than it looks. You need 2 squares of cardstock 2 5/8 x 2 5/8 and 8 squares of DSP or cardstock 1 1/4 x 1 1/4. I started with Delightful Dijon for my large squares and used two different patterns of DSP from the Morocccan Designer Series Paper. Start by overlapping the two large squares diagonally and adhere.  Apply a glue dot or adhesive of choice to one corner of a DSP square (bottom right) and place as shown below.

Using a contrasting pattern, adhere the next piece of DSP. Continue overlapping and adding squares until only one square remains.

Tuck the final square behind the first square to finish. Add an embellishment to the center. You can use a brad, button, ribbon, or cardstock to make the center. I added a button and used a few strands of the very vanilla bakers twine to tie a knot. I adhered this to the center with a glue dot.  I also added another square of cardstock 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 to make the design pop.

I adhered the pinwheel to my Emerald Envy card base and “stitched” around the design. I needed an envelope for my square card so instead of using the envelope punch board to make it, I decided to just cut 1/2″ off each side of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope and use washi tape on each side to seal it.  I also added some matching DSP to the envelope flap. How quick & easy is that?!

I like that you can use this card for anything…no outside sentiment necessary! I think it makes a great note card to send to someone just to let them know you’re thinking of them. I really like how it turned out and think I might just go make a set of these to give as a gift. I have a friend who loves to quilt and I bet she would love a set of “quilted” cards.
