Make It Mine Monday…Business Card Holder

img_3106

I saw this free standing business card holder on Pinterest and knew I wanted to make it.  I watched a video by Pootles and changed it up a bit to make it mine.  (She is from the UK and is sooooo talented!  I love to watch her videos and listen to her accent.) She made hers using metric measurements so I played around and ended up with these measurements:

Start with a piece of 8 1/2 x 6 cardstock. With the long side across the top, score at 1 1/2, 2 1/2, 5 1/2, 6 1/2.  Score on the short side at 1 inch and  5 inches. Fold along the score lines. With your paper snips cut up to the 1 inch score line along the 1 1/2 inch and 6 1/2 inch score line.  Then cut away the pieces between each score line.  Here is a photo of what it should look like at this point:

Add sticky strip adhesive as shown.

Remove the long pieces of sticky strip and fold the card stock in to the center.  It will look like this:

Remove the sticky strip from the sides and adhere together. You can leave it straight along the sides or just take your paper snips and cut at an angle like I did.

I decorated mine with a piece of DSP from the Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper pack. I absolutely LOVE the designs in this paper pack!  They are classic navy and white.  It goes well with so many different colors of cardstock that you may find you need a second pack like I did!  For this project I just used a small piece measuring 3 3/4 x 2 1/4.  I scored it at 1 3/8, added some snail adhesive and adhered it to the front of my card holder.  I added some Night of Navy Bakers Twine and bow and it was ready to hold a bunch of my business cards. I love it!

I think I’ll make some for the hairdressers, my dentist, and my doctor. I hope they will enjoy it as much as I do!

Materials:

Papers: Night of Navy, Floral Boutique DSP  Tool and Accessories: Simply Scored Scoring Tool, Paper Snips, Tear & Tape Adhesive, Snail Adhesive, Night of Navy Solid Bakers Twine

*UPDATE:  Here are two more I made today…one for my wonderful upline and friend, Susan, and one for the hairdressers.  I had their business cards so it was easy to match colors.  For Susan’s I used the gorgeous Emerald Envy Cardstock with Affectionately Yours DSP.  The flower and ribbon is “So Susan”!

Fun Fold Friday…Collar Fold

IMG_1136

This is the card I am sharing this week at our monthly card club.  My friend Margie named our group C3…Creative Card Club. She is so clever!  I always look forward to getting together with these ladies and making cards. We have a lot of fun!

This card could be used for so many different occasions. I love this sentiment from Suite Sayings. I started with a mint macaron card base cut at 4 1/2 x 11 and scored at 5 1/2.  I adhered a layer of crumb cake measuring 5 1/4 x 2.  The Affectionately Yours Designer Series Paper is cut at 4 x 5 1/4.  I marked the center at 2 5/8″ then measured and cut in 1 1/2″ and folded it back to look like a collar.  Our Designer Series Paper is double sided so you get to see the design on the back.  How cool is that!  I’m a visual person so I’ve included lots of photos for you.

I put a Stampin Dimensional under each fold and adhered the DSP to the card base.

I stamped the sentiment using Night of Navy ink.  To decorate, I cut the flowers and stem using The Big Shot, Precision Base Plate, and Botanical Builder Framelits.  The Precision Base Plate works great with detailed framelits and makes it so easy to have nice clean  cuts. I used the Die Brush to easily remove the pieces from the dies.  Having the right tools makes life simple!

I just love the flower die in this framelits set! You get 14 different dies in the set!  Today’s card uses just 3 of the dies.  I added a dimensional to the back of the flower to hold the leaf in place and pop it up on the card.  I used a glue dot to attach the flower center then added a pearl. And we’re done!
