Shine A Light On Peace for the Pals Blog Hop

December All that Sparkles and Shines post graphic

Welcome to the Pals monthly blog hop. We’re so glad you’re here! December is time for glitz and bling with  “All that Sparkles & Shines”. Today we feature projects that sparkle or shine. Maybe even a little of both.

You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

I live in Maryland not far from the Antietam National Battlefield. One of our family traditions is to visit the battlefield the first weekend in December for their Annual Memorial Illumination. It is the largest memorial illumination in all of North America and this year marked their 30th anniversary. Each luminary (over 23,000) represents a soldier’s sacrifice during the bloodiest one-day battle of the Civil War. (I’m a bit of a history buff.) There are no words adequate to describe the event…to see these hallowed grounds lit up is unbelievably surreal!

Antietam National Battlefield

I was inspired by my recent visit to create this set of luminaries.

These are simple to make. For each one I cut a 5 x 8 1/4 piece of Garden Green cardstock and scored each at 2, 4, 6, and 8. I used the new Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies (available Jan. 3rd in the Occasions Catalog) to cut the shape out for my light to shine through. I was so excited when I saw these dies in the new catalog! You get 13 different sizes which feature stitching inside and outside the frame! How cool is that?!

I cut my vellum at 1 7/8 x 3 1/2 and adhered it to the back with glue dots. I cut the letters from the Dashing Along Designer Series Paper using the Large Letter Framelits and adhered these to the vellum. I used Tear & Tape along the 1/4 edge to secure together.

A battery operated tealight fits inside for a nice glow. I added some Gold Metallic-Edge Ribbon to tie it together for that “sparkle and shine”.

You can make these to give as a gift or decorate your mantle or bookcase. These make the perfect night lite for a child’s bedroom (you could spell out the child’s name) or any room (use any die).

Here’s a few more photos of the Illumination.

I am thankful for our men and women in the Armed Forces throughout the world.  My thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their lives, so the world may someday enjoy world peace.

Make A Difference with Personalized Place Cards

I love to entertain, especially over the holidays.  I’m not much of a cook (my husband does most of the cooking in our family) but, I am all about the presentation! I am getting a head start on some personalized place cards using the Make A Difference and Blended Seasons stamp sets.

Stampin Up Blended Seasons and Make A Difference Personalized Name Card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

These are really fun to make! Yesterday I shared two Christmas cards I made with the holly from the Blended Seasons stamp set. (If you missed that post you can view it HERE.) While I had everything out on my desk, I cut a bunch of 2 x 3 Thick Whisper White cardstock and stamped the holly using Memento ink. We usually have between 20-25 people for Christmas Eve dinner (that’s just our immediate family) so I thought it would be a good idea to get a head start. I plan to take these with me when we take my daughter back to college next week and color them at the hotel at night. Adding the names with the Make A Difference stamp set is a breeze as it is a photopolymer stamp set so its easy to see where to stamp the letters.

Just think of all the possibilities with this stamp set…you can make any sentiment you want! Check out this short video as Brandi from the Stampin’ Up! home office shares some more ideas with this stamp set.

I have used candy canes on a holiday buffet table before to label different food items but I think the personalized place card is so special! I used a rubber band to hold the three candy canes together then covered it up with ribbon tied in a bow. The Blended Seasons Stamp Set will be available August 1 -31 while supplies last.  It is a limited edition bundle that I know you will love and use year round! Plus Bonus Days is coming in August where you earn $5 coupons for every $50 you purchase! Get your wish list ready. I’ll share all the details next week.

I really enjoyed reading everyone’s comments yesterday about your Christmas cards.  I am amazed at how many some of you make!  WOW!  I make between 60-75 (all the same) to send to family and friends.  Of course I play around and make several cards each year until I decide on “the one”.  I always seem to find people to give the “extra” cards to each year.  You can never spread too much cheer!!

I promised to pick a random winner from the comments to send a little gift to along with one of yesterday’s cards. The winner is…….. #4 Mary Grunder!!!  Congratulations Mary!  Email me (j.stark@myactv.net) your address and I will put your goodies in the mail.  Thanks to all who left comments.  I have missed you!!!

Have a wonderful day!

April Paper Pumpkin…You Are My Anchor

I love the beach and all things nautical so you can see why this month’s Paper Pumpkin is one of my all time favorites! Check out this video showcasing this month’s kit!

Most of the time I use the contents of the kits and make my own cards but this month I could have easily followed the directions and made them exactly as shown in the kit and been thrilled with the result. The kit includes supplies for 20 cards and 4 boxes! I love the 3 x 3 note cards and gift boxes and I thought about keeping a set for me and giving the other 3 sets as gifts. The 3 x 3 cards are great for gift enclosures and/or notes to tuck in lunchboxes and briefcases; however, I decided to play around and turn some of them in to cards I could send in the mail.  I love the stamps and the dies included in this kit! I recommend Paper Pumpkin subscribers purchase the note cards & envelopes so they can continue to use the stamps sets and ink included in their kits to make more cards. They are a great deal for 20 cards and envelopes! Each month I send my Paper Pumpkin subscribers exclusive alternative projects ideas using the products in their kits.   I know there are others like me that may not want to make multiples of the same card. I like to change it up a little. Here is an adorable matchbook treat holder I made using just the supplies in the kit. Perfect for a lifesaver candy!

Stampin Up Paper Pumpkin You Are My Anchor Matchbook Treat Holder - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

These are not only fun, they are quick & easy to make!

I cut 1″ off the 3 x 3 note card so it measured 2 x 6.  Then I turned and cut 3/8″ off one end so it measured 2 x 5 5/8. I lined it up on the score board so the 3″ score lined up at the 3″ mark and then I scored it at 1/2 and 3 1/4.

Stampin Up Paper Pumpkin You Are My Anchor Matchbook Treat Holder - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Fold the score lines and staple an individually wrapped lifesaver under the 1/2″ flap. Stamp the sentiment above in Island Indigo Ink and tuck in the top flap.  I followed the directions in the kit to decorate and adhere the life preserver using glue dots, twine, and mini stampin’ dimensionals. Adhere to the front and that’s all there is to it!

These little treats are great to have on hand to give out as you go through the drive thru to pick up your morning coffee or give to friends, hairdressers, “helpers” throughout the day, etc.
