K is for Kite Fold

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series.  Today I have a fun fold Kite card for you. This would be a great kids card.  I remember when my daughter was turning 3 we had a Winnie the Pooh birthday party.  We made kite shaped invitations and delivered them to her friends. This would make a cute invitation or birthday card.  This card reminds me of my son, he LOVED dinosaurs!

I admit I had no idea what I was going to do for a fun fold for K.  I was thrilled when I found this tutorial by Brenda Quintana (QbeesQuest.com). I followed her tutorial and put it together in no time!

Kite Card Tutorial

Step One

1. Start with a piece of card stock 10” x 4”. On the long side, score at 5”.

Step Two

2. On BOTH long sides, make a mark on the edge at 3” and 7”.

Step Three

3. On BOTH short sides, make a mark on the edge at 2”.

Step Four

4. Score from the 3” mark on one long side to the 7” mark on the other side. This will be a diagonal score, which runs across the 5” score line. Hint: I darkened the groove of my 6” score line with a permanent black fine tip Sharpie marker. This line makes it easier to align points for diagonal scoring.

Step Five

5. Score from the opposite 3” mark to the other 7” mark. You should now have score lines in the shape of an ‘X’ that cross the 5” score line in the center.

Step Six

6. Using a cutter or scissors, cut off the four corners of the card stock from the 3” marks on the long sides to the 2” marks on the short sides.

Step Seven

7. Fold the card in half on the 5” score line.

Step Eight

8. Tuck in the corner of the card along the score lines.

Step Nine

9. Tuck in the other corner.

Step Ten

10. Decorate card as desired.

I used Emerald Envy cardstock for my card base and the DSP is from the new catalog (available June 1), called Pick a Pattern.  (I used the flower print from this paper pack on yesterday’s Joy Fold Card. ) There is a wide variety of patterns in this paper pack.

DSP Pick a Pattern

 I cut the DSP 4 3/4 x 3 3/4 and scored it at 1 7/8 on each side.

Then I cut the 4 corners off from where the score lines meet the edge to where the other score line meets the edge.  I cut along the score lines and adhered the pieces to the front of the card.

I did the same for my Whisper White piece on the inside except I didn’t cut it apart.  I stamped my sentiment from the Lift Me Up Stamp Set with Emerald Envy Ink and stamped the clouds in Soft Sky. I attached a piece of Emerald Envy ribbon with a glue dot on the inside then adhered my sentiment layer on top.

I couldn’t help but sing “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” from Mary Poppins as I was making this card! This would this be a fun card to give with a new kite for a kids birthday party or anytime. You could make a custom envelope or it fits in a note card envelope.

J is for Joy Fold

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series.  Today I have a Joy fold card for you. The joy fold is basically a card within a card.  It is all about the layers and a fun focal point.  This Little Piggy is the most adorable stamp set!  It will be available June 1st.  I’ve been waiting for her big debut until it was closer to when you could order…I didn’t want to tease you any longer than necessary.  I couldn’t resist giving her center stage on my card today.

Isn’t she stinkin’ cute?! I used my aqua painter to bring her to life.  I gave my Shimmery White cardstock a quick wash with Soft Sky then I stamped Little Piggy with Basic Black ink. I used Flirty Flamingo and Sahara Sand inks with the aqua painter.  It was so fast & easy…just a quick wash with the brush.  No need to overthink it…she’s a pig…she likes to be dirty and handles imperfection with pride! She has several friends in her stamp set too!

I have lots of photos and measurements for you today so you can make one of these on your own.  The card base is Sahara Sand cut at 8 1/2 x 4 1/4 and scored at 5 1/2. Now let’s start layering…

Fun Fold Card- Jeanie Stark StampinUp

The Flirty Flamingo Layer measures 4 x 5 1/4.  The Polka Dot pattern is from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack (retiring) but you could easily use the same patterned paper as the front.  This layer measures 3 3/4 x 5.  Now for the front layers…

The Little Piggy sits on a Sahara Sand card base measuring 8 x 3 and scored at 4.  The Flirty Flamingo layer measures 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 and my Shimmery White layer measures 2 1/2 x 3 1/2. I adhered this inside the card making sure to center it.

The inside layers for this are Flirty Flamingo and Whisper White and are the same measurements as the front. I stamped the sentiment in Basic Black.

I is for Interlocking Fun Fold

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series.  Today I am showcasing an Interlocking Gate Fold. This is one of the many variations to the Gate Fold cards I shared for the letter G.  (If you missed that post you can see it HERE.)  I adore daisies and can’t seem to get enough of the new Delightful Daisy Suite (available June 1st). The Designer Series Paper in this suite goes with so many different colors.  Here I paired it with Wisteria Wonder.

My daughter was going to bed as I was going downstairs to create this card. (I am a night owl and seem to be more creative in the evening.)  She asked what color card I was going to make today and I said I didn’t know yet. Her favorite color is purple so of course she said, “Purple always looks nice”.  So purple it is!

The real treat to this card is how it opens.

Here’s how to make this fun fold interlocking card…

Start with a piece of  4 1/4 x 11 piece of cardstock and score it at 2 3/4 and 8 1/4.  Fold on the score lines and adhere 2 pieces of 2 1/2 x 4 Designer Series Paper.  (I love this Delightful Daisy DSP!!!)

img_2437

Die cut two layering shapes ( I used squares but you could use any layering dies) making sure one is about 1/4″ larger than the other.  I also cut a piece of DSP from the inside square and adhered that to the cardstock.

Adhere the scalloped square shape on the left gate flap making sure to just put adhesive on the half that attaches.  Adhere the right half of DSP square to the right gate flap.

I stamped the daisy twice on Shimmery Whisper White cardstock then blended the color a bit while it was still wet to give it the same washed look that is in the DSP.  I punched both out with the Daisy Punch and adhered them together with a glue dot.  I curled the ends of the daisy with my bone folder then attached the daisy to the center square with a glue dot.  I also stamped the inside of the card and the envelope with the daisy stamp but left the inside of the card blank.  This card could be used for just about anything and by leaving it blank for now I will be ready for any occasion.  All I have to do is stamp a sentiment inside and send!
