E is for Edgelits

Welcome to my alphabet series showcasing some of the new products in the 2017 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs. Today I’m showcasing the Star Blast Edgelits Dies. This fun new set is great for cards and gift packaging! I made this gift bag which could be used for a birthday, graduation, Golden Globe winner (LOL), or any special occasion.

I went all glitz and glam making this gift bag after seeing all the gorgeous gowns on the red carpet. Did anyone else stay up to watch the Golden Globe awards last night?

The gift bag is quite easy to make using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool. Start with a piece of 6 x 12 cardstock or DSP. With the long side along the top, score at 4 1/4, 5 3/4, 10, and 11 1/2. Turn the paper so the short side is along the top and score at 1 1/2. Cut off the 1 1/2 x 1/2 inch strip along the bottom. Use your paper snips to cut along the score lines from the bottom of the bag up to the 1 1/2 inch score line. Apply Tear & Tape along the 1/2″ strip and adhere the sides of the bag together. Fold the flaps in and secure the bottom with Fast Fuse or Tear & Tape.

Score a piece of 3 x 12 gold foil at 4 1/4, 5 3/4, 10, and 11 1/2. Center the Star Blast Edgelit Die along the top inside the 4 1/4 inch rectangle piece and run it through the Big Shot. Move the die so it’s centered inside the other 4 1/4 inch rectangle and repeat.

Fold along the score lines and attach to the top of the bag with Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape. The sentiment is heat embossed with gold embossing powder on a piece of 1 1/4 x 3 1/2 whisper white. I layered the sentiment on gold foil and gold glimmer paper that measures the same and attached it to the bag with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added some Gold Sequin Trim and Gold Ribbon with Mini Glue Dots. The finished size is 4 1/4 x 4 1/2 x 1 1/2. It can hold the small wide stamp cases as well as ribbon, adhesives, and Stampin’ accessories. It goes without saying that a nice piece of jewelry and some chocolate would fit perfectly.

I love that you can use any size paper with the edgelits and it only cuts the designs and doesn’t cut the rest of the paper. I can’t wait to play with these dies some more. My mind is racing with different ideas!

I make a lot of birthday cards and I really like that this set is versatile and can be used for masculine cards and kids! The large sentiments really stand out!

D is for a Date with Dragonfly Dreams and Detailed Dies

Welcome to my alphabet series showcasing some of the new products in the 2017 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs. Today I’m showcasing Dragonfly Dreams. This is already one of the most popular new items and I can see why! It is so easy to create a quick and simple card with the Detailed Dragonfly Dies and some DSP. I used different dies, sentiments, and Designer Series Paper on each of these calendar cards.

The sentiment is from the Designer Tee Stamp Set which you can get FREE with a $50 purchase during Sale-A-Bration. There are 10 different stamps in the set. I cut the detailed dragonfly from gold foil and attached vellum behind the wings.

It’s hard to tell in the photo but I added Wink of Stella to the dragonflies. I masked the sentiment from the Dragonfly Dreams Stamp Set and cut it out with the Layering Circle Framelits. It is quick and easy to stamp masked sentiments with photopolymer stamps!

I watercolored the bees using the new Watercolor Pencils and a blender pen. I cut them out with my paper snips. The calendars are from Taylored Expressions.

I don’t know which one is my favorite. I love the Detailed Dragonfly Dies! These calendar cards are made just like a basic card with the addition of a “tent” to make it sturdy to stand up all year long. To make the tent support, start with a matching piece of cardstock that measures 4 1/4 x 5. Score at 1, 2 1/2, and 4. Adhere to the inside of the card.

C is for Card Tin

Welcome to my alphabet series showcasing some of the new products in the 2017 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs. Today I am sharing the Sale-A-Bration Card Tin which I embellished and added a Perpetual Birthday Calendar. I love this card tin and the best part is it’s FREE! I love to give a set of cards as a gift and I love how this makes a beautiful presentation. I send a set of cards to my mom for Mother’s Day and as birthday gifts for friends & family. This tin is perfect to keep cards organized. You can choose to organize them by categories (by using the Tin of Cards Stamp Set to label your dividers as pictured in the catalog) or make a Birthday card box and sort your cards by months like I did. I used the Perpetual Birthday Stamp Set and stamped the months on each of my divider tabs. The tin comes with 9 customizable card divider tabs. You can easily make 3 more using thick whisper white cardstock so you’ll have one for each month. This is really easy to put together. Cut the Happy Birthday die from the Party Pop-Up Thinlits using the Big Shot and Precision Base Plate. Adher it to the tin with mini glue dots. Print out a perpetual calendar for each month, trim with your paper snips, and adhere it to the dividers. (I used Snail adhesive to adhere the calendars.) Then just fill in the names of family members & friends beside their birth date on the monthly dividers. What’s great is you( or the person you gift it to) can use this year after year. A special thanks to Lee Beulher and my husband for making the printable calendars for me (and sizing them to fit on the dividers). I’ve included a print friendly version for you below.

The tin is a beautiful way to store handmade cards for birthdays or all occasions. You can even customize your tin with die-cut letters and designs as shown below.

My daughter wants one to keep on her desk for the special cards she receives. (She claims she has run out of space to leave them all displayed on her desk.) I like that she wants to keep them! I actually have a “memory box” in my closet with special items I have saved over the years…handwritten notes from my grandmother and dad (both have passed away) as well as special cards and letters from students, family, and friends. I also have some handmade cards and drawings that my kids made when they were little. I call it my “feel good box” and every once in awhile I like to pull it out and remember. My husband has a basket (that was his mom’s) with all the cards and notes he received after his mom died. It’s amazing how such a simple gesture such as a card or handwritten note can make a difference. This is why I love what I do! I hope the cards I make will put a smile on someones’s face or offer comforting words when needed. I know how much I love to receive a card in the mail and these days everyone sends their wishes via Facebook, texts and emails so it’s even more exciting to get an actual birthday card in the mail.
