Tomorrow is the heavenly birthday of my dear friend, Sister Corda! One of my greatest joys was introducing Sister Corda to stamping! I still remember the excitement and joy on her face when she made her first card. She continued to have just as much joy with each and every card and project she made. She donated many of her cards to the nuns at the convent so they could share them with others. Sister Corda loved Paper Pumpkin and enjoyed getting together each month to put our kits together. I keep her photo in my craft room so we can still create together. She continues to influence my life and makes me strive to be the best person I can be.

My mother was in an Assisted Living facility until her passing July 22, 2021. I have been using up retired DSP to make cards and donate them to the Assisted living facility where she lived. I make Birthday cards, Get Well, Sympathy, and will eventually make Christmas cards and might add Valentines Day cards as well.
I make birthday, sympathy, get well, thinking of you, Christmas & Valentine Day cards and send them to friends and family. I too use up retired DSP paper this way, and often times make multiples of the same design. I call it my “therapy”.
What a great tribute to Sister Corda! Such a great photo of her. Through your blog, I felt like I almost knew her as well. Cards and treat holders to anyone and everyone is my motto. Nursing homes, military, senior centers, grocery store workers, fast food places, my local pharmacy, etc. I realized I have slighted my public library staff and volunteers. I need to remedy that! City workers as well as police, fire, and ambulance personnel are favorites too. Postal workers, UPS and Fed Ex people love a little treat or card once in awhile. Anything to make someone smile!
What a beautiful story about Sister Corda. Receiving a card in the mail can bring such joy. I enjoy sending them to folks from my church. #spreadingsunshine

I have always made cards with my GS troops for local veteran groups [we have a 225-bed Veterans’ Home in our town, plus a National guard contingent and several active VFWs] but during the height of the pandemic in our state, we detoured to healthcare workers at the local hospitals, nursing homes, etc. I have so many PP stamp sets and retired sets that for my older girls, I put together “kits” including everything they needed to make 10 “Thinking of you/support/encouragement/ thanks” cards at a time–CS, DSP, a few ink spots or retired SU In-color ink pads and a PP block (from the supply list) as well as a couple stamp sets, some embellishments and bits of ribbon or twine. They had a week or so to design, make and return the cards to me, and I would give the kids another round of consumables and exchange their stamp sets and inks if they wanted. We couldn’t meet in person, so it was porch drop offs/pick ups, but most of the girls stayed involved and we made and distributed about 100 cards a month. They posted their work on social media and CASED each other, did lots of hand-drawing, too, if they didn’t have a stamp for what they wanted [although they did ask sometimes if I had something specific]. I lent them punches, die cut some tags for them for sentiments if they asked, but mostly, they hand cut anything they wanted. We are continuing to do this “remote” crafting this fall although we are now allowed to meet in-person again. We ARE meeting at the beginning of December to do a community “stamp a stash” with other older troops in the area to create holiday cards for any group the participants want to support.
Sister Corda’s great niece sounds like a true scion of her forebear. How generous of her to offer a give-away of a PP kit. Please don NOT include me in your drawing–I have so much product of my own to use up that for sure, no matter how much I give out to use up, my daughter will be cursing me after I depart. As much as I use, there is always another heap to attack!

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Sister Corda. I smile thinking of you having her picture in your new craft room. I’ve taken a cue from you and make lots of little treats and wrapped candies. My son Will is battling leukemia and I make “gifties” for him to share with his healthcare workers—the girls who check him in, draw blood, nurses, everyone. (So keep those little gift ideas coming!) 😉
Happy heavenly birthday, Sister Corda. What a lovely story! I belong to a number of cardmaking groups pertaining to sending cards for various causes. I’ve acquired a few pen pals due to this, and absolutely love it and intend to keep going for as long as I can.
Oh Jeanie…..I just beamed when I saw sweet Sister Corda’s picture! She truly was one in a million and I have so many fond memories of her from playing Basketball with the kids on the playground ….to directing traffic in the pick up line that was always a hot mess……to making cards and being skimpy on her adhesive….or to putting WAY TO MUCH ON….to drinking her Coke and to being a friend to so many!
You were an AMAZING friend and a HUGE part of her life….great memories!
I absolutely love to make cards in the masses and it brings me so much joy to make a big stack of cards and just sit down and send them out to make somebody’s day… (Hopefully they like it!!)
I also love to make random cards and just drop them off randomly to people that work in a rehab facility….. to people who work in a physical therapy facility …..to people that work in the hospital… That brings me a bunch of joy!
The other thing that I love to do is when I have to send a check to someone that has done work at our house I’d like to make them a special card and take time to put something very personable and also very uplifting… As we all know we need to keep spending sharing kindness!
This is a wonderful idea for Sister Corda’s birthday and we both know she’s up there beaming!
Speaking of beaming… I am beaming because it is just about 70° out and I have my cast off so I am going to have therapy with some weeds and leaves!
Mother and I share our cards with friends, our doctors, nurses, friends who work at our grocery, our pharmacy and our bank. Since we are “The Joys,” we like to share our joy with those who serve!
We have a huge birthday club or thinking of you and share cards at random within that group.
My church has a “Sunshine Club” which mails cards to shut ins each month. I donate the handmade cards to the club to mail out.
What an inspiration. Just so lovely.
