Thoughtful Journey Mini Slimline Birthday Card for Tic Tac Toe #290

Welcome to Tic Tac Toe Thursday! This week’s challenge board was created by my friend, Rosanne. It has some fun elements to pick from.www.tictactoechallenge.com
I used 6 of the elements and created Tic Tac Toe 3 ways: across the top, down the middle, and on the diagonal from top left to bottom right.

I created a mini slimline card for my son’s birthday this week.

If you follow my blog you know I love to create birthday cards to coordinate with the gifts.  My son got his present early this year (and with over 30″ of snow he appreciated it!!). This card is a subtle reminder of his “Canada Goose” coat. LOL

I used the retired Wetlands stamp set to stamp the goose on a piece of Thoughtful Journey Designer Series Paper. Then I cut out a circle using the Stylish Shapes Dies. I layered this on another circle cut from the Spotlight on Nature Dies and popped it up on the card  the “hole” I cut out) with Stampin’ Dimensionals. This is a quick and easy technique to “spotlight” a focal image.

S is for Serene Scenery DSP Stack

Welcome to the ABC’s with DSP!  This month I am featuring projects showcasing Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper. Today I am using the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack to make a card for my sister.  This convenient 6″x 6″ size is perfect for card fronts, small gifts, and tags.  You get 48 sheets: 4 each of 12 double-sided designs. One side has nature and textile photography; the other side is coordinating graphic imagery.

This photo does not do the paper justice at all!  In fact, I admit I passed it over in the catalog again and again thinking it is not for me. (I’ve since changed my mind!) Check out this 1 minute video to get a better view of the paper in this stack and see some sample ideas (even some home decor).

When I finally got my hands on this DSP I was blown away by the realistic prints.  I love photography and wish I was better at capturing images in the right light. My inspiration for today’s card is the view from my sister’s new “dream home”.

I would have to pinch myself if I woke up to this every morning.  Aaaahhh!  Here’s my card…

Double Window Pane with Hearth & Home Thinlits and Serene Scenery DSP

I wanted to make a larger window to look more like my inspiration and show more of the view from my sister’s windows.  To do this you have to make sure the cutting plate does not cover all the way to the end of the die. I added some photos below so you can see how I cut the window die with the Big Shot.  I placed the cutting pad just short from covering the die on the right hand side the first time I ran the die through the Big Shot. You can see how it cut the die only where I placed the cutting pad on top.  Then I lined the die up and placed the cutting pad on top making sure not to cover all the way on the left this time.

It’s easier to do than it sounds and you end up with a nice large window to fill your card front.  I saw a card on Pinterest doing this for a tall window and I just adapted the idea to make mine wide instead.  I added a sentiment from Sheltering Tree and to make it even more realistic I decided to add a window sheet which I attached with glue dots.

I stamped grass from the Wetlands Stamp set in Old Olive ink.  I used a sticky note to mask part of the stamp as I didn’t want tall grass everywhere. I adhered the DSP to the window sheet then popped the window up with foam adhesive strips. I love how it turned out and hope my sister likes it too!  What a view!
