My son’s birthday was a couple of weeks ago. We waited until he visited this weekend to celebrate a belated Easter and birthday together! I find it harder to buy for my son the older he gets! (I also find it hard to believe that I have a 35 year old son!!!! LOL) He lives in Rhode Island and even though our recent move made the drive easier and a bit closer; the tolls add up fast! So this year we decided to gift him with an E-ZPass (hoping he will come visit more often). I love to make my cards coordinate with the gift so I pulled out some retired Designer Series Paper (World of Good) for his card.
I love this simple layout for a masculine card! I created a slimline card with a pocket so I could fit the E-ZPass application inside. (You can do the application process online if you have the vehicle registration information but I wanted to enclose his “gift” inside the card.) *This slimline pocket card works great if you want to enclose a check, cash, or “coupon” inside. (We sometimes make our own coupon gifts, “Good For….”.) This card design makes it easy to change up the DSP for a feminine card, wedding card, etc.
The inside sentiment is from one of my favorite retired stamp sets, Balloon Adventures. It was the perfect choice to go with this “travel” gift set. I like to change it up and add a little more interest by stamping on DSP when possible. I cut it out with the Stitched Rectangle Dies.
Here’s the details to make this card:
PROJECT MEASUREMENTS:
- Card Base – Basic Black: 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 scored at 3 1/2 and 7
- Designer Series Paper – Front of Card: 3 1/4 x 5 1/8, cut 2 @ 3 x 1 5/8
- Designer Series Paper – Inside card: 1/2 x 8 1/2 (pocket), 3 x 4 1/2 (sentiment)
- Designer Series Paper – Envelope: cut 3 @ 1 x 3 1/2
DIRECTIONS:
- Fold and burnish card base. Staple inside pocket on ends. Cover staples with DSP strip.
- Stamp sentiment on DSP. Adhere the 3 DSP pieces to front of card. *I added a special touch using Black Matte Dots to the map DSP to show the travel route from state to state.
- Stamp sentiment on DSP, cut with Stitched Rectangle Die, adhere inside card.
- Adhere DSP strips to the front of the envelope.
I am so glad Stampin’ Up! has added slimline envelopes to the product line! The slimline envelopes come in packs of 15 (5 each of 3 colors: Soft Succulent, Smoky Slate, White). And the best part is you don’t have to pay extra postage to mail this size card!
We always packs treats when we take a road trip. I made my son’s favorite handmade treats, Chocolate Pretzel M&M’s. I know he will enjoy these on the drive back home.
*I’ve shared this quick & easy treat before. If you want the recipe Click HERE.
Do you have a favorite travel treat? I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment below. Mine is orange tootsie pops! I only buy them when we travel!
I hope I inspired you to create this simple slimline card. Grab some DSP and give it a try!
