P is for Peace on Earth with Pretty Pines and Paper Pumpkin

Welcome to my Holiday ABC series.  Today I am “shaking it up” for P! I used my Paper Pumpkin Pining for Plaid kit  (October 2017) with the Pretty Pines Thinlits and Carols of Christmas Bundle to make this “Peaceful” Christmas card . If you missed out on last month’s kit, don’t worry as you can still create this fun shaker card with products in the Stampin’ Up catalog. I like to make and share alternative ideas with my Paper Pumpkin subscribers and this card is just one example of how you can change it up a bit to make it your own.

My card base is from Paper Pumpkin; however, you can cut a piece of the Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper for the front of your card. I love the Carols of Christmas Stamp Set and have used it a lot to create cards and boxes for the holidays. The Peace on Earth sentiment fit perfectly in the precut card front in the Paper Pumpkin kit.  I love how my Paper Pumpkin saves me time! You always have the choice of turning over the prestamped image and stamping your own sentiment on the back or cut a piece of 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 Whisper White to stamp an image or sentiment and another piece 4 x 5 1/4 to cut the circle using the Layering Circles Framelits. The window sheets, dimensionals, and sequins were included in the kit but you can order any of these items from my Stampin Up store. To assemble you attach the window sheet with glue dots to the back of the circle cut out.  Then add the dimensionals around the circle and fill with some sequins.  Remove the backing from the dimensionals and adhere the sentiment so it faces the front.

Then just add dimensionals to the top and bottom and adhere to the card base.

I added the pine branches from the Pretty Pines Thinlits and the trees and deer from the Card Front Builder Dies.  You can purchase the Card Front Builder Dies with the Carols of Christmas stamp set and save 10% on the bundle!

I love the matching envelopes in the Paper Pumpkin kit.  You can always cut the Merry Little Christmas DSP and add to the flap on the back of your envelope to tie it all together if you don’t have the kit.

I am so excited that the November Paper Pumpkin kit is designed to coordinate with the cards in October’s kit.  We’ve been told it is a “gifting project”.  I love having cards and gifts to match; however, you don’t have to have the card kit to make the projects in the November kit.  They can stand alone or be used together. If you want to get that handmade holiday touch without the fuss sign up by Friday, November 10th to get the November Paper Pumpkin kit.  Click HERE to sign up.

M is for Merry Music and more!

Welcome to my Holiday ABC series. I love Christmas music!  I could listen to Christmas carols year round! Unfortunately I can’t sing. (Many a friend will agree!  LOL)  At least my Pre K students don’t seem to mind.  I may not be able to sing the right notes; however, I create some “notes”. Today’s cards feature the Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper. I made a set of note cards for my daughter’s former violin teacher. My daughter visits her when she is home from college and brings her our homemade fudge for Christmas every year. I know she will appreciate these cards (maybe not as much as her favorite fudge but at least these are calorie free).

This is a clean & simple layout and a great way to showcase your favorite DSP. (Don’t forget select DSP is on sale through the end of October…Buy 3, Get 1 FREE! Only a few days left to stock up & save!)

The DSP measures 3×3 and I layered each with a 3 1/4 square of Basic Black cardstock. I used the Pretty Pines Thinlits to cut my boughs from Garden Green, Old Olive, and Real Red cardstock. I adhered these and the Red Ribbon bow with Glue Dots. I stamped the sentiment from Flourishing Phrases in Basic Black and cut it (and the Real Red scallop piece) with the Layering Ovals Framelits. I adhered the sentiment layer to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Quick & easy! What a great gift idea for teachers, hostesses, musicians, etc. You get 4 each of 6 double-sided designs in the pack so there’s plenty of paper to make matching envelopes too!

Give a gift from the heart…a quick & simple handmade scented jar candle

The fresh scent of pine cones add to the Christmas feel during the holidays.  Not only do they smell good, they make pretty decorations and gifts too! I love to give handmade gifts and this DIY Scented Mason Jar Candle has some added “sparkle and shine”.   It’s also really quick and easy to make, inexpensive, and doesn’t use any hazardous chemicals! Simply fill a mason jar with some potpourri (or you could use fresh greens, pine cones, cranberries, and/or fruit slices) , pour in some extra light olive oil, and add a floating wick on top.  How easy is that?!  I purchased a pack of 50 floating wicks from Amazon for $6.00. If you have Amazon prime you can get these delivered fast and have plenty of time to put together beautiful gifts to give this holiday season. (You can make these with different seasonal potpourri for your decor or gifts throughout the year!)

Mason jar filled with potpourri, olive oil, and a floating wick

I added some metallic ribbon from the upcoming Sale-A-Bration catalog to wrap around the jar and add some sparkle.  This gorgeous ribbon is woven with shiny gold or silver accents.  You can get 2 rolls FREE with a $50 purchase (starting Jan. 4th).  One roll is white with silver accents and the other is very vanilla with shiny gold accents.

I used glue dots to attach the pine boughs and berries cut from the Pretty Pines Thinlits Dies.  I also added some mini pinecones to go with the ones real ones that I put inside the jar. (These adorable mini pinecones are retiring so stock up now before they sell out!)

I made a matching 3 x 3 Very Vanilla gift card to go with the jar.  My card is a miniature version of one inspired by Mary Fish.  I heat embossed the sentiment from Christmas Pines with gold embossing powder and then added even more “sparkle” with the clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush on top of the word “sparkle”. The DSP from Warmth & Cheer coordinates beautifully with this gift.

This makes a nice gift for hostesses, teachers, hairdressers, friends, etc.  They are easy to transport with the lid on top. (Just use washi tape to attach the floating wick to the top of the jar so it doesn’t get lost in the oil while traveling.) One of the good things about these is they keep well and long. As the oil burns you simply refill with more olive oil.  You can add essential oils for whatever scent you prefer.

I hope you liked today’s project.  Subscribe to my blog for more card and gift giving inspiration.
