H is for Heat Embossing

Welcome to my ABC’s of Stampin’ series.  Today I am going to share the magic of heat embossing.  It is fun to do and really steps up your project with just a few simple steps.

I have used this card design many times. (What can I say, I love circles!) This card is another example of taking a “formula” that works and going with it. The Layering Circles Framelits made it quick & easy to cut out the circles. I pulled my colors from the Designer Series Paper, Affectionately Yours.  I love the copper foil in the print so I used the copper embossing powder to heat emboss my sentiment from the Perfectly Wrapped stamp set. I popped up the sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I love the In Color mini striped ribbon and just tied a simple knot and adhered the ribbon on the back. The Night of Navy cardstock is emobssed with the Petal Burst Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and adhered to a Crumb Cake card base. I lined the envelope flap with matching DSP to complete my card. Happy Day!

Watch this quick video from Stampin’ Up! to see how to turn stamped images into glossy raised designs with heat embossing!

Remember those curvy keepsake apples I made during my Back to School week?  I heat embossed a tag with white embossing powder on black cardstock before giving them to my student helpers.

Here’s another card I made using the heat tool and gold embossing powder.  You can click on the image to see the details.

Tuesday Tip…Flourish Thinlits

img_3129

Sympathy cards are never ones you like to send. Unfortunately I have had to send a few lately.  I created this card using the Flourish Thinlits Dies and coordinating Flourish Phrases stamp set.  I purchased them as a bundle and saved 10%.

Check out this quick video for some great tips for cutting the Flourish Thinlits.

*Note- I use my die brush a little differently than she did in the video…I brush over the thinlit rather than directly on the cardstock as this keeps it from ripping the detailed pieces. It works like a charm.

I cut the thinlit in both Sweet Sugarplum and Pear Pizzazz.  I attached the Pear Pizzazz negative piece to whisper white and laid the Sweet Sugarplum die cut inside. (I like puzzles and this reminds me of one.)  The cool part is you get to make another card in the opposite colors.

I embossed a piece of Sweet Sugarplum cardstock with the Petal Burst Embossing Folder. I used the debossed side because I preferred it with the look of the inlaid card.

I used Pear Pizzazz and Sweet Sugarplum ink to stamp the sentiments and front of my envelope. I attached the sentiment layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals and added some Sweet Sugarplum Ruched Ribbon.
