C is for Card Tin

Welcome to my alphabet series showcasing some of the new products in the 2017 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs. Today I am sharing the Sale-A-Bration Card Tin which I embellished and added a Perpetual Birthday Calendar. I love this card tin and the best part is it’s FREE!  During Sale-A-Bration, you get a free item of your choice for every $50 you spend (before shipping & tax).

I love to give a set of cards as a gift and I love how this makes a beautiful presentation.  I send a set of cards to my mom for Mother’s Day and as birthday gifts for friends & family. This tin is perfect to keep cards organized.  You can choose to organize them by categories (by using the Tin of Cards Stamp Set to label your dividers as pictured in the catalog) or make a Birthday card box and sort your cards by months like I did.  I used the Perpetual Birthday Stamp Set and stamped the months on each of my divider tabs.  The tin comes with 9 customizable card divider tabs. You can easily make 3 more using thick whisper white cardstock so you’ll have one for each month. This is really easy to put together. Cut the Happy Birthday die from the Party Pop-Up Thinlits using the Big Shot and Precision Base Plate. Adher it to the tin with mini glue dots.  Print out a perpetual calendar for each month, trim with your paper snips, and adhere it to the dividers. (I used Snail adhesive to adhere the calendars.)  Then just fill in the names of family members & friends beside their birth date on the monthly dividers. What’s great is you( or the person you gift it to) can use this year after year.  A special thanks to Lee Beulher and my husband for making the printable calendars for me (and sizing them to fit on the dividers).  I’ve included a print friendly version for you below.

The tin is a beautiful way to store handmade cards for birthdays or all occasions.  You can even customize your tin with die-cut letters and designs as shown below.

My daughter wants one to keep on her desk for the special cards she receives. (She claims she has run out of space to leave them all displayed on her desk.)  I like that she wants to keep them! I actually have a “memory box” in my closet with special items I have saved over the years…handwritten notes from my grandmother and dad (both have passed away) as well as special cards and letters from students, family, and friends.  I also have some handmade cards and drawings that my kids made when they were little.  I call it my “feel good box” and every once in awhile I like to pull it out and remember.  My husband has a basket (that was his mom’s) with all the cards and notes he received after his mom died. It’s amazing how such a simple gesture such as a card or handwritten note can make a difference.  This is why I love what I do! I hope the cards I make will put a smile on someones’s face or offer comforting words when needed.  I know how much I love to receive a card in the mail and these days everyone sends their wishes via Facebook, texts and emails so it’s even more exciting to get an actual birthday card in the mail. It’s just a bonus if it’s handmade!! So here’s my special for today…purchase $50 or more from my online store and I will send you the birthday card kit I featured yesterday along with the Happy Birthday die cut I used to embellish my card tin.  Be sure to enter the Hostess Code EPGDT3KF when you check out. Happy 90th Birthday to Sister Corda!

Last week I had my monthly get together with my Paper Pumpkin Players.  Everyone put together their kits and made lots of alternative cards and projects (Thanksgiving table favors, boxes, etc.) but the fun didn’t stop there. After spending the afternoon crafting we surprised Sister Corda with a Paper Pumpkin Party in honor of her 90th birthday!  She is one of the most amazing people I know and she loves her Paper Pumpkin kits and crafting as much as I do!

Sister Corda

Before I share pictures of our Paper Pumpkin get together and surprise dinner party, I want to show you one of the cards and gifts I “wrapped” for Sister Corda. I had a special request to make a 90th birthday card for Sister Corda (and to order her a new set of the standard cutting pads for her Big Shot).  Here is the card I made.

I made a double z fold card. (Click HERE  for directions and to see the one I made previously for my daughter.) I used the Large Numbers Framelits to cut the 90 from Rich Razzleberry cardstock. I used the Party Pop-Up Thinlits to cut the Happy Birthday die then I cut it apart to go across the front.  The inside sentiment is from a retired stamp set and was the perfect saying for Sister Corda. I stamped the sentiment then punched it out with the Decorative Label Punch.

I wanted to wrap the cutting pads in matching DSP so I used the envelope punch board and a piece of 12 x 2 DSP to make a large envelope to hold the cutting pads. It was easy to make following the directions right on the envelope punch board. The standard cutting pads fit perfectly inside!

I decorated the large custom envelope by placing the card in a clear envelope and adhering it to the front of the package.  I added some Mint Macaron ribbon and it was complete and ready to deliver.

Here’s a few of the Paper Pumpkin projects we made. Pictures below is one of the alternative cards Sister Corda made with the leftover punched leaves from the kit. She sponged the leaves and embossed trees and added a sentiment from a past Paper Pumpkin kit.

Paula made the box using one of the cards in the kit. (Check back tomorrow for directions how to make it.)

Good things come in little boxes!!

I love crafting with these ladies! (Unfortunately Margie had to leave early before this picture was taken.)

I surprised Sister Corda with one of her favorite dinners (Maryland crab cakes) and an ice cream cake for dessert. Everyone popped their “pumpkin” crackers and adorned their party crowns.

Please join me in wishing Sister Corda a Happy Birthday!
