Buzzing with Excitement for the Pals Blog Hop

Pals Blog Hop Badge March 2020Blog Hop Mystery Candy badge

Welcome to the Pals’ Blog Hop! We’re so glad you’re here. You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. This month we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Pals Blog Hop with “Critters” from the Stampin’ Pretty Pals. Many of the design team members are offering “Mystery Blog Candy” of their choice to 1 lucky winner. To play along, just leave a comment on as many blog posts as desired. A random winner will be announced on a subsequent blog post by each participating design team member. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you “hop”(or “buzz”) along from Pal to Pal.

Stampin' Up! Honey Bee Mini Curvy Keepsake Box idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

These little critters are “buzzing” with excitement! I started blogging just before my youngest left for college. (She set up this blog to keep me busy so I wouldn’t miss her so much.) It’s hard to believe she will be graduating in less than two months! (Fun Fact….Her college mascot is named Buzz.)  Time does fly (or buzz) by when you’re having fun! I’m celebrating my 7 year anniversary with Stampin’ Up! this week! (I made a smart decision and joined during Sale-A-Bration!) I have met so many wonderful friends through my journey with Stampin’ Up! This card is headed to one of those sweet friends.

Stampin' Up! Honey Bee Thinking of You peek-a-boo card idea for a friend - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

I love this color combination! This is one of those cards that just evolved as I was creating with the Honey Bee Bundle (one of my favorite sets in the Mini Catalog).  I was planning to make a wreath which turned in to a “peek-a-boo” card when I got ink on the card front. Rather than start over I just punched it out.  Anyway, in the end I really love how it turned out. Here’s the card details:

  • Card Base: 4 1/4 x 11 Whisper White scored at 5 1/2 for a side fold card
  • Inside card: 4 x 5 1/4 Basic Black and 3 3/4 x 5 Whisper White
  • Adhere 1 1/4″ Daffodil Delight and 1″ strip of DSP along left side of card front.
  • Punch (or die cut) a 2 1/4″ Circle in the card front and another with the Golden Honey DSP. Adhere Circle DSP through the opening on the front to inside of card. *This helps guide you where to write or stamp on the inside so it won’t show through.
  • Stamp flowers around the circle using Memento Black Ink and color with Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends (lightly) or Watercolor Pencil.
  • Make a double bow with Daffodil Delight 1/4″ Ruched Ribbon and attach with a Glue Dot.
  • Stamp sentiment on 1/2″ strip of Daffodil Delight and notch the ends. Adhere with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Stamp bee on scrap piece of Whisper White and cut with Detailed Bee Dies. Color with Daffodil Delight Blends and Clear Wink of Stella. Adhere with Stampin’ Dimensional.
  • Punch (or die cut) a 2″ circle from Basic Black cardstock then center and cut 2 1/2″ Circle to create a frame.  Glue on inside of card around the circle opening.

N is for Night Before Christmas

Welcome to my ABC Holiday 2019 Series! Throughout this series I will be sharing all kinds of cards, gifts, and ideas to help make your holidays as easy as ABC! Today I am showcasing the Night Before Christmas Suite. Check out what Santa is up to in this fun video…

The Night Before Christmas Suite is showcased on pages 24-26 in the Holiday Catalog. You can use the Night Before Christmas Memories & More Cards & Envelopes with the Night Before Christmas Memories & More Card Pack and have instant Christmas Cards! Talk about quick & easy!  Today I’m sharing how I used the Night Before Christmas 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper to make some fun little Christmas treats.

Stampin' Up! Night Before Christmas Designer Series Paper sweet treat gift ideas - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Take a look at all the different fun patterns in this short video!

This candy cane treat is quick & easy! The DSP makes a nice presentation for a sweet little holiday treat. (You could even put it on a gift as a tag!)

Stampin' Up! Tiny Keepsakes Bundle sweet candy cane treat idea- Jeanie Stark StampinUp

The DSP measures 2 x 6 and is adhered to a Real Red 2 x 7 layer. I use a hole punch to punch two tiny holes on either side of the candy cane to thread the ribbon through and tie a bow. I added a couple of glue dots to secure the candy cane in place. The tag is from the Tiny Keepsakes Bundle. I stamped the sentiment in Pretty Peacock and cut it out with the Mini Curvy Keepsakes Box Dies. I used White Bakers Twine to thread a jingle bell and tag and tied it around the candy cane. Quick & easy!

For my next project I made a fold over box.

Stampin' Up! Making Christmas Bright fold over box gift idea for friends - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

The sentiment I used is from the stamp set, Making Christmas Bright (in the annual catalog). I got the dimensions for the box from Sam Donald (Pootles.com). The light bulbs pattern from the Night Before Christmas DSP was perfect to go with what I put inside the box.

I host a cookie exchange with my friends every year and these will be perfect for their table favors. I got the bulbs from Hobby Lobby and filled them with mini M&M’s for a little treat or ornament to hang on their tree as a reminder of our special friendship!

Stampin' Up! Making Christmas Bright fold over box gift idea for friends - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Here’s the measurements to make the box:

  • Very Vanilla or Crumb Cake cardstock: 7 x 6 1/4, score ont he long side at 1 1/2, 3, 4 1/2, 6. Score on the short side at 1 1/2 and 4 3/4.
  • DSP Panels: (2) 3 x 1 1/4, (2) 3/4 x 1 1/4, (1) 3/4 x 3
  • Very Vanilla: 1 x 2 3/4 to stamp sentiment in Delicata Golden Glitz
  • Scraps of Real Red, Old Olive, and Early Espresso to punch bulbs with Christmas Bulb Builder Punch

Fold and burnish the score lines. Cut, notch, and trim as shown below.

Add adhesive to the notched pieces on each end and in the middle on both sides and assemble the box. (You can view the video from Pootles.com to see how to put the box together HERE. *She put tealights in the box.)

I can’t decide which color box I like better, Very Vanilla or Crumb Cake? I need to make 10 more. Leave me a comment and let me know which color you think I should make for the rest of them.

So what do you do the Night Before Christmas? Every year our family gets together at my sister’s (~24 people ) for dinner on Christmas Eve.  (I love making the table favors for everyone!) After dinner we play “Yankee Swap”. Everyone brings a wrapped gift (~$25) and we draw numbers to see who goes first and so on. The first person opens a gift and then the next person can choose to take their gift or open a different one and it continues on so you never know what gift you will end up with til the very end.  It is always so much fun and every year there seems to be a “hot gift” that everyone wants. As our family has grown it is a fun way to have a little gift exchange without breaking the bank!  The best gift of all is just being together as a family and remembering the reason for the season!

Have a wonderful day!

M is for Mini Curvy Keepsake Box Dies

Welcome to my ABC Holiday 2019 Series! Throughout this series I will be sharing all kinds of cards, gifts, and ideas to help make your holidays as easy as ABC! Today I’m showcasing the Mini Curvy Keepsake Box. I loved it’s Mama (Curvy Keepsakes Die) from several years ago and just about anything mama could do, so can this little cutie! Here’s a look at the first project I made.

I made over 50 of these apples…for the teachers for back to school, the hairdressers at the shop where I sell my cards, friends, etc.  They are so quick & easy to make! You had to cut two for the old “Mama” die and then you had to glue and assemble but this little one doesn’t require any adhesive at all and you can get two of these boxes per sheet of paper.  I filled the apples with 5 caramels each which still makes a nice little treat to give.  There are so many other things you can fill them with too! Here’s some others I made for Fall/Thanksgiving.

I used the Tiny Keepsakes Stamp Set to make the checked pattern on my boxes. You can purchase the Tiny Keepsakes Stamp Set and the Mini Curvy Keepsakes Box Dies as a bundle and SAVE 10%.  I debated getting the bundle and thought I would just buy the dies but I am so glad I went ahead and purchased the bundle!  The Tiny Keepsakes Stamp Set has two miniature background stamps with adorable greetings. You can make your cards and projects so creative making your own “Designer Series Paper” using the checked or stripes! Take a look at all you get with the Tiny Keepsakes Bundle.

Here’s a quick video to see how easy it is to put this treat holder together!

I like to use my bone folder to curl each side of the paper before I put it together.  It gives it a more rounded look.

I filled these with M&M’s and a special little note. For years I’ve mixed up my special “Blessings Mix” and always had that in whatever table favors I made that year. This year, I’m changing it up and going with some M&M’s and a Thanksgiving Gratitude Game to get some fun family conversation going (I hope).

On a personal note…I am one happy mama today as my daughter flew in late last night and is home for a few days. We are planning to hit the craft shows this weekend, perhaps take a hike to the waterfalls, and enjoy the gorgeous Fall weather.  And, since she can’t come home for Thanksgiving this year, we are planning to celebrate the holiday this weekend with a big turkey and all the trimmings. I grew up in Massachusetts and went on many field trips to Plymouth Plantation.  We were told the first Thanksgiving was actually celebrated in October. It was good ole President George Washington who decided to proclaim a national Thanksgiving holiday in November. For me, any day I have my kids home is a day of Thanksgiving!!!!

Have a wonderful weekend!
