Building A Sailboat for Tic Tac Toe Challenge #209

This week at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge, I am the featured designer. Here is the challenge board I created.

I started out intending to create a simple card going across the top row with: Decorate Envelope, Patterned Paper, Any Shape. Well, as is usually the case when I’m creating, my project evolves and changes throughout the process.

It’s still a pretty simple card; however, it has several layers and lots of texture! My card has 8 of the 9 elements from the challenge board so I decided I needed to go “all in” and created an origami sailboat to coordinate (Anything But A Card). I had so much fun creating these sailboats I ended up making a whole fleet. (LOL)

I used 3″, 4″, and 5″ squares of DSP to create these. I love the mini 3″ version but the only place I could fit a lifesaver was in between the sail. (LOL) The simple sailboat makes Tic Tac Toe all by itself going down the middle: Patterned Paper, Free, Anything But A Card! How cool is that?!

This card and sailboat is for a friend of mine who loves sailing! She recently had a double lung transplant and is doing remarkably well!! It’s really a miracle to behold! I thought the “lifesavers” were a fitting treat to put in the sailboats. She is looking forward to sailing again once she’s fully recovered. For now we can enjoy watching the Friday night sailing races along the shore.

Here are the details if you would like to create this card.

Card Base – 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4  (Thick Basic White)
Layer 1 – 3 3/4 x 5  (Poppy Parade)
Layer 2 – 3 1/2 x 4 3/4 (Blueberry Bushel Glorious Gingham DSP)
Layer 3 – 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 banner (Poppy Parade)
Layer 4 – 2 x 4 1/4 strip (Poppy Parade)
Layer 5 – 1 7/8 x 4 1/4 striped DSP (Boho Blue from In Color DSP Assortment)
Layer 6 – 2 1/2″ Stitched Circle cut from Stylish Shapes (Blueberry Bushel)
Layer 7 – 2 3/8″ Punched Circle embossed with waves (Boho Blue)
Sailboat-Punched with Sailboat Builder Punch in Basic White and Pecan Pie
Sail is stamped with sentiment from Go To Greetings in Blueberry Bushel ink.
I used Thick Bakers Twine to create the nautical knot along the top of the banner.
Banner, strip across the middle, and Circle Layer are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
