E is for Edgelits

Welcome to my alphabet series showcasing some of the new products in the 2017 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs. Today I’m showcasing the Star Blast Edgelits Dies. This fun new set is great for cards and gift packaging! I made this gift bag which could be used for a birthday, graduation, Golden Globe winner (LOL), or any special occasion.

I went all glitz and glam making this gift bag after seeing all the gorgeous gowns on the red carpet. Did anyone else stay up to watch the Golden Globe awards last night?

The gift bag is quite easy to make using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.  Start with a piece of 6 x 12 cardstock or DSP.  With the long side along the top, score at 4 1/4, 5 3/4, 10, and 11 1/2.  Turn the paper so the short side is along the top and score at 1 1/2.  Cut off the 1 1/2 x 1/2 inch strip along the bottom.  Use your paper snips to cut along the score lines from the bottom of the bag up to the 1 1/2 inch score line. Apply Tear & Tape along the 1/2″ strip and adhere the sides of the bag together. Fold the flaps in and secure the bottom with Fast Fuse or Tear & Tape.

Score a piece of 3 x 12 gold foil at 4 1/4, 5 3/4, 10, and 11 1/2.  Center the Star Blast Edgelit Die along the top inside the 4 1/4 inch rectangle piece and run it through the Big Shot. Move the die so it’s centered inside the other 4 1/4 inch rectangle and repeat.

Fold along the score lines and attach to the top of the bag with Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape. The sentiment is heat embossed with gold embossing powder on a piece of 1 1/4 x 3 1/2 whisper white. I layered the sentiment on gold foil and gold glimmer paper that measures the same and attached it to the bag with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I added some Gold Sequin Trim and Gold Ribbon with Mini Glue Dots. The finished size is 4 1/4 x 4 1/2 x 1 1/2.  It can hold the small wide stamp cases as well as ribbon, adhesives, and Stampin’ accessories. It goes without saying that a nice piece of jewelry and some chocolate would fit perfectly.

Do you wonder what’s the difference between framelits, thinlits, and edgelits? Are you confused about what to use to cut each?  Here’s a great video from Stampin’ Up! explaining how to use the Big Shot and what you need to make your “sandwich”.

I love that you can use any size paper with the edgelits and it only cuts the designs and doesn’t cut the rest of the paper.  I can’t wait to play with these dies some more.  My mind is racing with different ideas!

I make a lot of birthday cards and I really like that this set is versatile and can be used for masculine cards and kids! The large sentiments really stand out!

Happy Birthday with Designer Tin of Cards

November is filled with birthdays in my family and circle of friends…my brother, sister, daughter, husband, and 3 friends all have November birthdays. I’ve been making lots of birthday cards!   My husband’s birthday was earlier this week and my daughter requested a card for her to give him. I used the Designer Tin of Cards kit to make this alternative card using the contents in the kit.

Alternative card using Stampin’ Up! Designer Tin of Cards Kit

This is a well traveled card as it made the trip to Atlanta (so my daughter could sign it) then back home again to be hand delivered with it’s matching gift bag.  Here’s a little secret…I love to recycle and dress up gift bags I receive.  (I’ve been doing this for years and I especially love to change it up and regift it back to the person that gave it to me and see if they notice.  LOL)  Everyone received a goodie bag at World Card Making Day with our make and take projects.  It was a plain kraft bag and I knew immediately this bag was going to have several lives! (Thank you Brian & Pam!)  I love this quick & simple way to dress up a bag.

Gift bag made with Stampin’ Up! Moroccan Designer Series Paper

I took a 2 inch strip of Designer Series Paper and cut it to the width of the bag.  I layered it with some coordinating cardstock and just adhered the ends to the bag with Fast Fuse. This leaves the center open to slide in your card. Quick & easy! I believe this bag idea came from Stamping School years ago. I have learned so much from its creator, Linda Heller.  I was so excited to meet her in Atlanta and just had to have my picture taken with this amazing woman (hoping some of her talent would rub off on me)! She was one of the many awesome presenters at WCMD.

P.S.  The bag has already been recycled again! It was given away today to a customer who ordered the Stitched with Cheer Project kits.  Three of them fit perfectly in the bag and I made a simple thank you card to slide in the front. (Wish I took a picture before I gave it away.)
