Hidden Message Valentine Cards with True Blue Florals & Made With Love

Did you play along with my Mystery Monday Stampin’? Well, some things did not go as planned; however, I am excited to share my finished cards. I hope I fixed the measurements before anyone else cut their paper. (Trust me, enough paper was harmed in the making of this fun fold by me!!!) The funny thing is I have made this style card before but I wanted to try something a little different this time (of course I did!!!). I’ve seen several versions of this style card and I really liked how Connie Stewart made it with the layers that look like they extend. It gives the illusion it is just a regular card and makes it more of a surprise when you open it! Anyway, I tweaked her measurements for what I wanted and if you followed the clues you would have created a Hidden Message Fun Fold Card similar to these.

While this card could easily be used for many occasions, I have a friend who absolutely loves blue so of course I had to make her a blue valentine. I love how the Branching Out Dies frame the sentiment here as well as the “hidden message”.

This card stands for display and I love how you can add a personal message that is hidden inside. I fussy cut some of the flowers that were on the edge of the DSP to decorate my envelope to coordinate.

Making It Slim with Ornate Style

Oh my Gosh! I am totally on board with the latest craze of slimline cards! This may well be my favorite card I’ve ever made! (And it’s not even a fun fold!!! LOL)

I love to color! I find it so relaxing and had so much fun coloring this card with my Stampin’ Blends. I got my color inspiration from the Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper. I made this card to fit in a #10 (business size) envelope. Because it is long I decided to use a bit of the DSP on the front of the envelope. How did I do coloring the card to match the DSP? (It’s really so easy with Blends!!!)

I wanted to use the Stitched Rectangle Dies and I learned this cool trick from Gina K (of Gina K Designs) when I attended one of her workshops a few years ago. Just cut and stamp two of the dies and add a strip across the middle to make it appear seamless.

Here’s the measurements for this slimline card:

Card Base (So Saffron): 8 x 9 1/4 scored at 4
Basic Black: (2) 3 1/8 x 8 3/8, 3 x 1 5/8, 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 (to cut Scalloped Oval Die)
Shimmery White: Cut 2 Stitched Rectangles (3 x 4 3/8) *You will need to trim ~ 1/4″ to fit, 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 to stamp and cut with Layering Ovals Die, 3 x 8 1/4 (inside)
So Saffron: 3 x 1 1/2 embossed with Ornate Floral 3D Embossing Folder
Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper: 2 3/4 x 4 1/8 (envelope)

Welcome to my ABC Card Series! Throughout this series I’ve been sharing a variety of cards for every occasion. Today’s card is a fun fold boX card. I love to make fun fold cards and this one is not only different, it’s really quick & easy to make!

Materials and Measurements

Card base: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 Mossy Meadow cardstock scored at 2, 4, 6, and 8.
Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper – Cut 4 strips 1 3/4 x 5 1/4. (I stamped my sentiment on one of the panels. You could use whisper white cardstock if your DSP is too busy or dark.)
Basic Black cardstock to cut Butterfly Beauty dies.

I used a strip of Tear & Tape along the 1/2 inch side to adhere the box. The butterfly dies are attached to the card with a glue dot on each butterfly along the center fold line. This card will display nicely on a shelf. I love how it looks like the butterflies are floating. Here’s more views of this fun card.
