Flag card – Just Stampin'

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! It was my favorite weekend in months! This pandemic has been difficult being separated from family and friends. My son lives in Rhode Island and he drove back home to Maryland to visit before he starts a new job next week. It was a wish come true for me to have both my children home! We had a fun time celebrating Father’s Day together! Here’s the card I made for my husband.

I love to make cards to go with gifts I give. This card was perfect to go with my husbands Father’s Day gift. Can you guess the gift? You may need a little hint…think of an outdoor game tossing beanbags. If you guessed cornhole you are right! We love to play games as a family….indoors or out.

The cornhole board provided the inspiration for my Patriotic card. I used A Wish for Everything to stamp the Father’s Day sentiment inside the “hole”. Check out all the sentiments in this set of 38 stamps!

The A Wish For Everything Stamp Set provides you with just that….wishes for every occasion! It coordinates with the Word Wishes Dies to celebrate throughout the year!

Today’s card was quick & easy to make! Just change the sentiment and use it for any patriotic holiday or to send cards to our troops or veterans! Here’s the details:

Measurements

Whisper White: 4 1/4 x 11 scored at 5 1/2 for card base, scraps to punch/cut stars
Misty Moonlight: 4 1/4 x 2 1/2, 2 x 4 to cut Stars for envelope flap
Real Red: (4) 1/2 x 3 strips, (2) 3/8 x 3 strips

Directions

Fold and burnish the card base. Adhere the Misty Moonlight layer along the top.
Add the 2 thinner red strips on each side of the card. Space the other 3 strips 1/2 inch apart. *I like to use liquid glue for this as it is easier to move to get it straight.
Add the stars to the Misty Moonlight layer. I used a retired star punch for this; however, you could use the Stitched Stars Dies as the star is the same size as one of them in the set.
Use the Layering Circles Die to cut the “cornhole”. Stamp the sentiment inside the cut out with Misty Moonlight Ink.
Cut the Stitched Star Die and adhere to the envelope flap. *I used the new Adhesive Sheets to easily adhere the star die to the envelope! So glad Stampin’ Up! brought these back!!! Check them out in my product list below!

Happy Fourth of July! There is much to celebrate! Today is the one year anniversary of my blog! My very first blog post was the treat holder pictured below that I posted last year on the Fourth of July. (You can click on the image to see the original post.)

This past year has been a year full of changes, lots of travel, and so much fun (minus my surgery and recent concussion)! My husband and I became empty nesters as our children spread their wings and became independent…our daughter went off to college in Georgia and our son moved to Massachusetts with his job. I have loved creating and sharing with you and have enjoyed the interactions with comments, emails, and cards from so many of you! You have helped make this transition much easier than I ever thought possible! Never underestimate the difference you can make in someone’s life! I am so happy to have you along on this stamping journey with me!!

I love embossing folders… they are a great bang for your buck and provide a quick & easy WOW factor by adding dimension! I used the celebrate embossing folder from this set on my card today. My inspiration for today’s card came from a napkin (of all things)!

I also used the new Ruffled 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on this card. I thought the ruffles looked a lot like a flag blowing in the wind.

I live in Maryland near the Antietam National Battlefield. It’s a family tradition on the Saturday before 4th of July to go to Antietam for their Independence Day event. Everyone packs a picnic and spreads their blankets, chairs, and umbrellas on the battlefield. The Maryland Symphony Orchestra entertains the crowd, planes fly overhead, cannons are fired, and the most spectacular fireworks display lights up the sky at night. I was not able to attend this year due to my recent concussion; however, my daughter and husband went and they face timed me during the fireworks display. Here’s a few photos they took at the event.
