T is for Tunnel Fold

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series. Today’s fun fold is a Tunnel card.  It is so cool when you open it up to reveal the “tunnel” on the inside of the card.

I love lighthouses! When I first saw the High Tide Stamp Set I knew I had to have it. I enjoy visiting lighthouses during our travels and learning the history of each. I made this card for my husband for Father’s Day.  I am usually very last minute; however, this year I am going to be away for Father’s Day so I needed to make his card before I left. I love this sentiment from High Tide…it works for Father’s Day as well as other occasions. Parenting is not always easy and it helps to have someone to support you with the tough decisions. I feel like we got lucky in the kid department…we are blessed with two wonderful children and we are so proud of both of them.

Let’s get to today’s card…

You need two 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ sheets of card stock. The “window” piece is scored at 2-1/8, 4-1/4″ & 6-3/8″. I used Shimmery White and Marina Mist.

Die cut a window in the center of the window piece (I used the Layering Circles Framelits).

The “base” piece is stamped before folded in half. I did a watercolor wash on the top portion of my card using Soft Sky Ink and my Aqua Painter. I stamped the water with Marina Mist ink then sponged it with a sponge dauber.

img_3141

Adhere the left panel and the right panel of the window piece to the base piece.

Decorate the front of the card as you like.  I used Shimmery White cardstock and did the same watercolor wash, stamping, and sponging as I did on the inside. I used Sahara Sand around the base of my lighthouse. The lighthouse is a two step stamp.  I used Dapper Denim and Smoky Slate then fussy cut the lighthouse.

img_3146

I stamped the sentiment from Crazy About You in Marina Mist and layered this piece on a piece of 4 x 5 1/4 Marina Mist. I wrapped some Linen Thread and tied and bow before adhering it to the card base. It really is a simple card with a WOW factor when you open it! Some simple stamping on the envelope flap and it’s done! (A week ahead…I think this might be a record for me!! LOL)

Leave a comment with your answers and I will choose a winner using random.org. Good Luck!

  1. Where was the first lighthouse built in the United States? (Hint: It is the state where I grew up.)

S is for a Step Fun Fold

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series. Before I get to today’s card I want to share some alphabet fun with you. Friday was my last day with my Pre-K students. We ended the year with a performance of the Alphabet Tree by Leo Lionni.  This is a great children’s book with a wonderful message for the President!  (I adapted the story for our performance.)  My students were absolutely adorable as letters (leaves on the tree) working together to make words under the advice and guidance from a couple of insects.

img_3071

My daughter baked over 7 dozen cupcakes to make an alphabet tree.  We had alphabet pretzels, crackers, and cookies too! Yummy from A to Z!

It is always such a joy to see how much my students grow and learn each year.  I am thankful I had such a wonderful group of supportive parents too…look at these adorable totes they put together!

img_2916

The school year may be over for my students but my alphabet series with fun folds isn’t. Today’s card is a fun fold step card.  I wanted to make a special thank you card. I thought the tree from Thoughts & Prayers went with our alphabet tree.  (It would have been cute with the Labeler Alphabet stamps on the tree!)

Here’s how to make this step card step-by-step.

  1. Line 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ cardstock in paper trimmer so that the right edge of the card is at the 1″ mark. Position the cutting blade at 1″ and cut from 1″ to 5 1/4″. Flip card over and do the same on the other side.

  2. Place cardstock on to scoring tool and score along the long side of the card from the edge to the cut line at 1″, 2″ and 5 1/4″  .  Repeat on the opposite edge of the card.
  3. Score between cut lines at 4 1/4″.

img_3059

4. Fold at the score lines. The first, third and center score lines are mountain folds. The second score line is a valley fold. Reinforce score lines with a bone folder to make folds crisp.

5. Stamp and decorate your card.

I used markers to ink the tree and stamped it on a piece of 3 1/4 x 3 Very Vanilla cardstock.  I layered it with Early Espresso cardstock 1/8″ larger at 3 3/8″ x 3 1/8″. I wrapped the new 3/8″ Mini Chevron Ribbon and tied a knot. The DSP on the sides measures 7/8″ x 3″. The sentiment could be changed for thinking of you, sympathy, masculine birthday, etc. I have used this stamp for so many different cards. (I added hearts to the tree and made a Valentine card one time.) This stamp set is a keeper!

R is for Rocker Fun Fold

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series. I am over the top in love with today’s fun fold cards…they Rock!

Stampin Up Rocker cards. For directions and supplies visit www.juststampin.com

I didn’t know what I was going to make for a fun fold for R and then Chris R. suggested a rocker fold. Well Chris R., YOU ROCK!  This fold is definitely FUN!!!!! I can’t stop playing with it and watching it rock.  I made a video for you…don’t blink or you’ll miss it! LOL

How sweet is this?! I needed a baby card and the Moon Baby Stamp Set was a perfect choice for this type of fold.  I started with a piece of 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 Soft Sky cardstock scored at 4 1/4.  I used an old scrapbooking circle cutter to cut the base but you could use a bowl and trace a half circle on the fold.

I embossed the front using the Lucky Stars Embossing Folder. I stamped the image on Shimmery White cardstock and used the Aqua Painter to watercolor. I used the Layering Circles Framelits to cut the circle. I’ve shared before how much I love and use the Grid Paper. You can see in the photo below I used the grid paper to line up my card and make sure the circle didn’t go above 4 1/4″ so it would fit in a standard envelope.

img_2895

I added some clouds cut from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper using the Up & Away Thinlits Dies. Then I fussy cut a dazzling star and attached it with a glue dot.

I couldn’t stop after just one of these fun folds.  My second card is a note card and will fit in the basic note card envelope. I was considering making a sailboat for my next card but we had the most delicious watermelon today so I decided to go with this card instead.
