Big On Birthdays

March is “Big on Birthdays” for my family, friends, and me!  (Read on to find out about my special “goodie bag” this month.) This stamp set will come in handy as I make quick & easy cards to send.  I love the big fonts in this stamp set and like that I can use my watercolor pencils, blender pen, aqua painter, or markers to add color to the flowers. Which one do you think I used on this card?

I have been using my watercolor pencils a lot lately so I decided to give them a break and use ink and my blender pen for this card.  I wanted a soft tone so I went with Sahara Sand, Blushing Bride, and Pear Pizzazz. I stamped the sentiment and flowers from Big on Birthdays Stamp Set with Sahara Sand ink on a piece of 4 x 5 1/4 Very Vanilla. This is a photopolymer stamp set which makes it easy see where you are placing it on your card.

It’s so easy to watercolor with ink and a blender pen.  Simply squeeze your ink pad while it is shut to get some ink on the lid to work with or just put a few drops from the ink refill in the lid.  (You don’t want to pick up ink directly from your pad.) Here’s a photo of what my ink pads look like when open.

After coloring the flowers I added  some Pearl Basic Jewels. I adhered my stamped layer on a Very Vanilla card base using Foam Adhesive Strips.  These strips are intended to use for shaker cards but I like the extra thickness and depth you get by wrapping along all four sides.  Here’s a close up.

I always love to make the envelopes coordinate. This one is just sweet and simple.

I made this card for my friend, Erin.  We have a “Birthday Club” (aka Girls Night Out) and each month we pick a different restaurant to go to dinner and celebrate the Birthday Girl. Here’s a photo from our celebration for Erin (wearing the hat).

This month I will get to choose the restaurant for my birthday. I usually choose a place that has delicious Maryland crab cakes! I think it will be fun to celebrate with you too this month! So, I am putting together some “party favors” to share with you. Everyone who shops with me this month will automatically receive a goodie bag. My party favor goodie bags will include assorted retired products (Designer Series Paper and embellishments as well as some surprises). I will also have some blog candy prizes this month so be sure to check back.

Happy Birthday Linda!

Balloon Adventures Stamp Set, Party Animal Designer Series Paper, and Stitched Shapes Framelits

Today is my sister’s birthday. She would want me to mention she’s my “younger” sister. 🙂 (I have 4 sisters and 1 brother.)  Linda is always on the go! She likes to be busy and is always planning her next project or vacation.  I thought this sentiment from Balloon Adventures (available Jan. 4th) was just perfect for her! She is moving in to a new home next week so I didn’t want to send her something else to pack up and move.  I made a pocket card to hold a gift card.  (You could also put a check or money in the pocket.)

The Stamp Set, Designer Series Paper, and ribbon are from the Party Animal Suite in the new Occasions catalog. If you are not currently working with a demonstrator and would like a copy of this catalog I would be happy to send you one.  Email me and I will get one in the mail to you along with the new Sale-A -Bration catalog.

I used the new Stitched Shapes Framelits on this card.  I used the largest square framelit and made a rectangle. I did this technique before using the Hearth & Home Framelits to made a double window.  You can see that post and directions HERE.

To make today’s card I started with a piece of 4 1/4 x 10 1/4″ Whisper White thick cardstock.  I scored it at 2 and 4 3/4″ and folded along the score lines.  I added sticky strip and folded the end over to make a pocket. It is a standard size card and will fit in the Stampin Up! medium envelopes.

I used the Party Animal Designer Series Paper (available Jan. 4th) on this card.

The piece on the front measures 2 3/4 x 4 1/4 and the inside piece measures 4 1/4 x a smidge less than 5 1/2. (So it can fold over easily.)  Next I stamped my sentiment on a piece of Whisper White using Pacific Point ink.  I used the largest square from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies to cut my rectangle. To do this you have to make sure the cutting plate does not cover all the way to the end of the die. I added some photos below so you can see how I cut the die with the Big Shot.  I placed the cutting pad just short from covering the die on the left hand side the first time I ran the die through the Big Shot. It cut the die only where I placed the cutting pad on top.  Then I lined the die up and placed the cutting pad on top making sure not to cover all the way on the right this time.

I love the look of the Stitched Shapes Framelits!  I framed it with a layer of Crushed Curry cardstock measuring 2 7/8 x 4″. Before I attached this to my card base I stamped and adhered my inside sentiment on a piece of whisper white measuring the same as the Crushed Curry, 2 7/8 x 4″.  I stamped and punched some balloons and adhered them on the inside pocket.  Next I adhered the layer on the front of the card.  It is much easier to place it correctly to cover the inside sentiment.  Just add adhesive to the left side making sure you don’t glue it to the inside of the card.

For a final touch I made a bow with Emerald Envy 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon and adhered it with a glue dot then decorated my envelope to coordinate. I like the fun bright colors!

Happy Birthday with Designer Tin of Cards

November is filled with birthdays in my family and circle of friends…my brother, sister, daughter, husband, and 3 friends all have November birthdays. I’ve been making lots of birthday cards!   My husband’s birthday was earlier this week and my daughter requested a card for her to give him. I used the Designer Tin of Cards kit to make this alternative card using the contents in the kit.

Alternative card using Stampin’ Up! Designer Tin of Cards Kit

This is a well traveled card as it made the trip to Atlanta (so my daughter could sign it) then back home again to be hand delivered with it’s matching gift bag.  Here’s a little secret…I love to recycle and dress up gift bags I receive.  (I’ve been doing this for years and I especially love to change it up and regift it back to the person that gave it to me and see if they notice.  LOL)  Everyone received a goodie bag at World Card Making Day with our make and take projects.  It was a plain kraft bag and I knew immediately this bag was going to have several lives! (Thank you Brian & Pam!)  I love this quick & simple way to dress up a bag.

Gift bag made with Stampin’ Up! Moroccan Designer Series Paper

I took a 2 inch strip of Designer Series Paper and cut it to the width of the bag.  I layered it with some coordinating cardstock and just adhered the ends to the bag with Fast Fuse. This leaves the center open to slide in your card. Quick & easy! I believe this bag idea came from Stamping School years ago. I have learned so much from its creator, Linda Heller.  I was so excited to meet her in Atlanta and just had to have my picture taken with this amazing woman (hoping some of her talent would rub off on me)! She was one of the many awesome presenters at WCMD.

P.S.  The bag has already been recycled again! It was given away today to a customer who ordered the Stitched with Cheer Project kits.  Three of them fit perfectly in the bag and I made a simple thank you card to slide in the front. (Wish I took a picture before I gave it away.)
