C is for Christmas Cards

Welcome to my ABC Holiday Series! With Christmas less than 12 weeks away it’s time to think about what card you want to make to send this year. Now is the best time to order what you need… Stampin’ Up! is offering specials on Fast Fuse, DSP, and more (*See details below)!  I send out a lot of Christmas cards so I like to start early. I make several different cards before I decide on “the one” which I will make in bulk to send.  Here’s today’s contender.

Stampin Up Holly Berry Happiness Christmas card idea - Jeanie Stark StampinUP

One of the things I love about Stampin’ Up! products (besides the quality) is how everything is made to coordinate. The Holly Textured Impressions Embossing Folder coordinates beautifully with the image from the Holly Berry Happiness Stamp Set.  This card has everything that I feel sets it apart from store bought cards…texture, layers, embossing, ribbon, embellishments, and watercolor all in one! The fact that it is handmade from the heart…priceless! Here’s the measurements:

Card Base: 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 scored at 4 1/4 (Whisper White)

Layer 1 (Embossed): 5 1/8 x 3 7/8 (Always Artichoke)

Layer 2: 4 1/2 x 2 (Real Red)

Layer 3: 3 3/4 x 2 3/4 (Whisper White)

Layer 4: 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 (Always Artichoke)

Layer 5 (stamped panel): 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 (Whisper White)

DSP Layer: 1/2 x 2 1/4

I stamped the holly image in Always Artichoke ink and used my blender pen to color inside the leaves. The sentiment is from the Star of Light Stamp Set (another beautiful stamp set). I added matching plaid from Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper pack (part of the Buy 3, Get One Free Special going on now) to the front of my envelope. Many thanks to my friend, Rosanne Mulhern (Heartfelt Stamping), for sharing her paper saving idea! This is a great way to still add that special coordinating touch when making many cards.

  1. Really like this card today, but honestly, any of the ones on parade would wow a recipient.
The only time I make multiples of anything is for a swap or setting up for a make and take. Otherwise I create as I go. Beginning in April this year I made myself do a few Christmas cards each week to begin creating a stash for sending so that I wasn’t going nuts in November. I always have some retired holiday DSP to use and no one but SU demos cares if something isn’t “current” so I plod away until the new product comes out. And then I find that often some retired product coordinates beautifully with the new stuff!
Always excited to see what alphabet series you come up with~Another fun run!

  2. Beautiful…..I love plaid and the “envelope love” is such a great idea! I usually make one card idea and send to all my friends. I am also commissioned by my two daughters to make cards for them as well so I get to make a small variety for them. Happy Wednesday!

  3. exCeptional! Love this card with the plaid and might CASE it. I usually do one main card in bulk and a couple others for special friends, something that might take more time that isn’t feasible for making for everyone. I usually have layers, embossing, a little bling or glitter or creative fold–I too like it to be different from a bought card. I haven’t settled on an idea this year but there are lots of great ideas out there, including all of yours! Loving the ABC series!

  4. C is for CURSES – now there is two more sets I want! This card is totally me with all the luscious layers. I have been looking at the holly set for the sentiment inside as well as the one about across the miles. I can never have enough Christmas, winter and holiday stamps! I have been toying with the brilliant Star of Light set for some of the sentiments and other images. My Painted Harvest set came yesterday and I want to play with the wreath idea in the next day or two as that card is oh so special too. I love your whole parade of beauties! Boy, what would be really cool would be the ABCs of Christmas and then I would have 26 beauties to CASE! I don’t think I have a real preference now in your four cards as they are all stunning! I like to do a variety as I have some people who are religious, some like snowmen or snowflakes, a few Jewish friends, three people demand purple cards, etc. Then, I love to make cards for the nursing homes and kiddos in the hospital etc. so that brings in some new stamps too. I end up sending probably 15 cards with notes and then another 15 to go with little goodies and then maybe another 10 to hand carry to neighbors etc. Now, if I can get Mike to quit buying cards from the store there would be another 20 that he sends out to his friends and relatives.

OK now about the tip from Roseann – is it using the strips of DSP for the card and envelope instead of the flap or what. Inquiring (nosey) minds want to know. The envelope is just gorgeous with that rich plaid. That settles it, I am taking advantage of the DSP special and getting a pack of that paper. The Always Artichoke looks wonderful with that plaid and all those luscious layers.

    1. Rosanne uses the DSP on the front of the card instead of the flap.I actually embossed the flap with the holly embossing folder too! I love to decorate envelopes…front and back!

  5. Well ….I love this card and I have that dsp coming ! I have been wanting to get that Holly EF and I have the cute Holly Punch !! So thanks to your creativity I can`t wait to kinda say C IS FOR CASE !!!
All of the others are special too !
    F is for FUN !!
