When my son was little we planted sunflowers. All summer long he watched them grow and got so excited the taller they grew. He couldn’t wait to get dressed, run outside, and stand beside the sunflowers to see how tall they were in comparison to himself. He would report daily and tell me it was as tall as his “boo boo”, up to his knees… on up until they were over his head.
I noticed these sunflowers in my neighborhood the other day and they made me smile as I was reminded of that summer garden.
I was inspired to create today’s card using the new Painted Harvest Stamp Set which will be available in the new Holiday Catalog starting Sept. 1. It will be available as a bundle with the new leaf punch (Love it!!!). This is my favorite bundle in the new catty! It could have something to do with the wonderful memories it evokes or just the beautiful images you get with the two-step stamping.
I used elements from this week’s Tic Tac Toe Challenge board to create this card. I choose 3 in a row across the middle: flower, thank you, angled. It also works diagonally: yellow, thank you, leaf. Here’s this week’s challenge board.
My card base is Garden Green embossed with the Layered Leaves Textured Impression Embossing Folder. I added a 1 1/2 x 5 strip of DSP from the new Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper and some Jute Twine (Avail. Sept. 1).
I love all the texture on this card! I used So Saffron and Crushed Curry ink for the two-step stamping on my sunflower. I added Early Espresso ink to the center and while it was still wet I took my blender pen and just pulled out some color from the center to highlight the petals. I popped up the stamped layer using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I stamped the flower again on the inside where I will write a personal note.
I am going to put this card in the mail to my son. He is so happy in his new job and I’m so thankful I was able to spend time with him this summer. I think he will get a kick out of this old photo (which will slide easily under my twine to hold it in place).

I hope you enjoy Tic Tac Toe Thursday as much as I do! Be sure to check out what the design team and others created and I hope you will find some time to create and add your project to the line up!

What a sweet activity to do with your son! I love your card too. I think this will also be my favorite set! I can’t wait to play with it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Sweet story to go with your sweet card! I love the texture on the card! I totally forgot to have Mike take a photo of the project I made for a friend for last week’s challenge. I used old PP kit leftovers and had the little white box with metallic spots on it that held a heart shaped dog treat. I then made a tag to go on it for my friend who adopted a dog. I gave it to her yesterday and I am sure Scout has taken care of it including the little box and flower on it. Maybe your gorgeous sunflower card will remind me to finish on time and photograph it etc. I love your envelope too. Your son will love this! I loved seeing the massive fields of sunflowers growing across the river in Illinois. Talk about a riot of color!
Love the sunflower card and the sweet story!!!
Oh, how beautiful…both the card and story! I love sunflowers as well and love this stamp set. Sunflowers always put a smile on my face. Have a “brim to brim” smile’n kind of a day!
