Stepping It Up with So Many Shells

Yesterday I shared a simple card I made that was inspired by a picture I saw in a shop by the beach.  If you missed that post you can see it HERE.  I stepped it up for today’s card.

My stepped up card is a shaker card. I added some sand and tiny shells I got from Newport when I went sailing with my son. I enjoy shaker cards and they are really fun and easy to make.  The cardstock, measurements, etc. for this card are the same as yesterday’s simple card.  I attached a 2 1/2″ square window sheet with glue dots to cover the square. Then I added 2 layers of Foam Adhesive Strips around the square (to allow for enough space for the shells to move around).

I added a few pearls and this stepped up version is just as simple to make as the original! Which one do you prefer?

I enjoyed reading the comments yesterday about what you think I collect when I go on vacation. I gave you a hint when I told you I’m in my happy place when my toes are in the sand. You can see some of my collection below.

My sand collection from my travels. Visit www.juststampin.com for inspiration and Stampin' Up! supplies.

I told you I love the beach! I bring the beach home with me everywhere I go! (Oh the stories I could tell about some of this sand! FYI…trying to go through customs with sand in a plastic bag is not always easy!  LOL) I love the different colors and textures. It’s amazing how different the sand is from beach to beach. I have sand from as far north as Prince Edward Island and as far south as Cancun, Mexico. I also have sand from as far west as Hawaii and as far east as Normandy, France. I spend a lot of time on the east coast and have collected sand from Maine to Florida. My favorite is the pink sand from Bermuda! This is such a fun collection and brings a smile to my face.  It’s inexpensive and easy to document my travels with some Avery labels on jars.

I am still away so I had to text my daughter to get her to take the picture of my sand collection. My husband took a picture of her standing on the bathroom counter to get the photo. The things she does for me!  LOL

Congratulations to Pam Traffis for guessing correctly! Pam, email me (j.stark@myactv.net) your address and I will put a goodie in the mail to you next week when I get home. Many thanks to all who left a comment.  I enjoyed reading about your collections. I love to take lots of photos too while on vacation and I look forward to sharing some stories and pictures from my travels.

Have a wonderful day!

  1. I thought it might be a sand collection, because we collect sand too!! We could trade stories about being questioned at airports!! 😂 I’ll try to send you a picture of my collection!

  2. You are amazing…and OH SO FUNNY! I can JUST SEE YOU as you created this masterpiece! I am smiling from ear to ear….I know you love the beach and I know you just LOVE LIFE!

  3. Jeanie these stamps are so unique and gorgeous beyond words. I have to say I so look forward to seeing your projects each day. What I’ve learned about fancy fold cards is mind boggling.

  4. So excited! Thank you Jeanie. Your sand collection is beautiful. I’ve brought sand home before and I guess the only thing that concerned me was what I might be bringing back in it LOL. I have it in the bottom of a jar of shells and it makes that collection extra special. Both cards are a great take on the inspiration you found but the shaker is adorable with the shells.

  5. Love your card…it is a great idea! Your sand collection is beautiful and unique and your display is awesome. Thanks for sharing and continue to enjoy your vacay, Jeanie.

  6. How creative! Real sand and shells–can you part with them to send the card? Lol! I’ll have to give it a try! Love that everyone in your family makes pics!

  7. The card is so fun, gorgeous, and just plain ol’ perfect! I love that you put the sand in there and the shells. I would say keep it and put it on display with your bottles of sand. Sometimes you need to be selfish and keep things for yourself. I would not mail this beauty at all as it would never be the same unless you glued the shells in place. What is next sand castles? Oh and I love your daughter getting up close and personal to get the perfect shot for you!

  8. What a great idea to collect sand from your travels!

I collected a small amount from St. Augustine, FL when we went there with my husband, SIL, daughter & 6-month-old granddaughter in 2016.

I should have collected sand from all the beaches in Michigan when I lived there.

Now I live in Florida…there’s a few beaches here!

Thanks for sharing your collection!!!! I love the diff shaped bottles & the fact they all are glass & have corks. J

  9. Love it ! What a great collection you have !!
Your Shaker card is so special ….so creative !
Love the picture of your daughter ….so CUTE !!

  10. Ah! So Cool! Love the idea! I’m the shell and sea glass collector! I LOVE BOTH Cards! So AWESOME! Thanks for sharing!
Too Funny about your daughter taking a picture of your sand collection…I would have never guessed
the bathroom…but, then…I do have a seaside theme going on in mine too! Who Knew!
Enjoy the rest of your stay on the Cape!
I am going up in Sept. for a week…to Newport, RI…where I am from!
It is SISTER’S WEEKEND! Doing it a month early while it is still warm up there!
    Blessings to you…Cheryl
Oh, and Big Congrats to Pam Traffis!

  11. Love, love, love, Your sand collection. I didn’t think I needed this shell stamp set. Now I’m thinking about it.
