Stepping It Up for Susan

My friend Susan is away on a much deserved and earned Stampin’ Up! vacation. While she is away she asked team members to make “Simple Saturday” and “Step It Up Sunday” cards to share on her blog (www.simplestampin.com).  I am always up for a challenge and teamed up with my very talented friend and fellow demonstrator,  Ramsey.  I thought I had the easy job as Ramsey agreed to come up with a card and I just had to “step it up”. Well, when Ramsey sent me a photo of her card my first thought was, WOW! This is a beautiful card and already stepped up (with layers, double punched daisy, and a faceted gem). How am I going to “Step It Up?

Here’s Ramsey’s card:

My solution was to literally “Step It Up”.  You know how I love fun fold cards so I decided to make an easel card.

This is a really easy card to make. The base of my card measures 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 Daffodil Delight, 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 Old Olive, and 4 x 5 1/4 Whisper White with a 1 x 4 strip of DSP from the Color Theory Designer Series Paper Stack. The sentiment is from Birthday Blooms, stamped in Old Olive, cut with the Layering Ovals Framelits, and popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. To make the easel I cut a piece of 3 x 6 1/4 Daffodil Delight cardstock and scored it at 2 3/4 and 5 1/2. I adhered it to the Daffodil Delight card base before adding the old olive and whisper white layers.

The stems are stamped on a piece of 2 3/4 x 5 1/4 Whisper White and layered on a piece of 2 7/8 x 5 3/8 Old Olive. I stamped the daisy on the Whisper White and then twice on scraps of Daffodil Delight. I punched out both yellow daisies with the Daisy Punch and offset them before adhering on top of the stamped image. I layered the stamped images on a piece of Old Olive that measures 2 7/8 x 5 3/8.  I wrapped some Crushed Curry Mini Chevron Ribbon around this layer and tied a bow. I adhered the layered image to the bottom of the daffodil delight (below the score line) so the image will prop up behind the sentiment.

My grasses did not turn out as nice as Ramsey’s (and I think she may have used Pear Pizzazz ink or stamped off). The ribbon serves to step it up with some added texture (and cover up my inky mistake).

  1. Good morning Jeanie! I love both of the cards you and Ramsey made! Your stepped up version is clever – I don’t think it would have occurred to me to make Ramsey’s into a fun fold. So innovative! I am definitely going to make both of these cards. Thanks for the inspiration! Please tell Ramsey how much I like her card as well! ~Karen

  2. I love what you came up with for an add on for Ramsey`s card !1 So cute ! Plus what great instructions (as always) on how to put this delightful easel card together !
    DELIGHTFUL ! BTW….you could put together a book !

  3. We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy! I bow to the talent and creativity of two great designers. Such an inspired collaboration. Hope you can do it again. Thanks for the detailed instructions on your card, too. I’ve loved the fun fold series, and this is a great addition.

  4. Awesome step-up! Love both cards and your instructions are great. Thanks Jeanie.

  5. Jeanie, you win the prize!!!! Your card is such fun! I can just see it sitting on a desk making someone very happy! I have to say that I was thrilled when you said you liked the idea of doing the stepped up version. I know I could not have come up with something as clever! I had thought that you might just add another layer and some ribbon or bling. Wow! You hit it out of the park! Huge thanks to Susan for letting us play together! I have had such fun working with the Maryland Pals! Miss you all and have fun on your adventures!!!

  6. Both cards are beautiful. Thanks, Jeanie, for the instructions to make your stepped up version. Both will be CASEd by me. I’m receiving the daisy punch on Tuesday! Yeah, I got it before they had to reorder. With these pretty cards and others on pinterest and blogs, it is easy to see why it is so popular. Thanks to both of you for giving us this clever inspiration while Susan is away. Has anyone heard if her luggage finally caught up with her? That’s not a good feeling.

  7. HJ- there luggage has arrived see her blog post today.

Both cards are definitely a Daisy Delight! This was definitely a challenge with two people working together yet apart. But, it was fun and another challenge completed on my part. Enough of that – I am just worried what fun facts Susan will try to come up with for me….I am in my negative Nellie mode today though these two daisy cards should make me smile more! The fold was just pure genius on your part Jeanie – I have no idea what else I would have done except a ribbon and maybe something inside. Trust me whenever I get to finally order the bundle – I will be casing both cards!

I left comments on Susan’s blog too (today). I still giggle at my friend not figuring out how to make the card stand up-easel style and ended up ripping it apart thinking that I accidentally glued it shut. the next easel card I made a little instruction guide on how to set it up. Darn, I wish I had put that part on the computer to add to the next one I made. I would definitely be a fence sitter as I love both cards and couldn’t chose a favorite. That ribbon and bow really is cool though.

  8. Hi Jeanie, love this easel card. I would never have thought to make an easel card for a step up. As many people commented, a little embellishment or a layer, but this is just gorgeous!
    🙂

  9. Thank you all for the kind comments. This was fun challenge to do. Really made me think! This could be a fun series…take a card I like and try to step it up! Hmmmmmm 🙂

  10. I really love this very cheerful easel card. I have bookmarked your page and hopefully CASE it. You just can’t beat that daisy.
