Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series. Before I get to today’s card I want to share some alphabet fun with you. Friday was my last day with my Pre-K students. We ended the year with a performance of the Alphabet Tree by Leo Lionni. This is a great children’s book with a wonderful message for the President! (I adapted the story for our performance.) My students were absolutely adorable as letters (leaves on the tree) working together to make words under the advice and guidance from a couple of insects.
My daughter baked over 7 dozen cupcakes to make an alphabet tree. We had alphabet pretzels, crackers, and cookies too! Yummy from A to Z!
It is always such a joy to see how much my students grow and learn each year. I am thankful I had such a wonderful group of supportive parents too…look at these adorable totes they put together!
The school year may be over for my students but my alphabet series with fun folds isn’t. Today’s card is a fun fold step card. I wanted to make a special thank you card. I thought the tree from Thoughts & Prayers went with our alphabet tree. (It would have been cute with the Labeler Alphabet stamps on the tree!)
Here’s how to make this step card step-by-step.

Line 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ cardstock in paper trimmer so that the right edge of the card is at the 1″ mark. Position the cutting blade at 1″ and cut from 1″ to 5 1/4″. Flip card over and do the same on the other side.
- Place cardstock on to scoring tool and score along the long side of the card from the edge to the cut line at 1″, 2″ and 5 1/4″ . Repeat on the opposite edge of the card.
- Score between cut lines at 4 1/4″.
4. Fold at the score lines. The first, third and center score lines are mountain folds. The second score line is a valley fold. Reinforce score lines with a bone folder to make folds crisp.
5. Stamp and decorate your card.
I used markers to ink the tree and stamped it on a piece of 3 1/4 x 3 Very Vanilla cardstock. I layered it with Early Espresso cardstock 1/8″ larger at 3 3/8″ x 3 1/8″. I wrapped the new 3/8″ Mini Chevron Ribbon and tied a knot. The DSP on the sides measures 7/8″ x 3″. The sentiment could be changed for thinking of you, sympathy, masculine birthday, etc. I have used this stamp for so many different cards. (I added hearts to the tree and made a Valentine card one time.) This stamp set is a keeper!

S is for special as you are special to the kiddos as they are to you! Your daughter is definitely special for baking that many cupcakes – I bet they were yummy. Chocolate iced vs. a letter on top, I am not sure which I would pick! I love your step card. I have only made one or two and that was in a class and that was a few years ago. I will have to refresh myself with your instructions which I am sure are spectacular! Oh no, we are nearing the end of the alphabet – what will we ever do?
Well, I start over every year with my students. We keep going through the alphabet year after year.
Have no fear….I have 4 more ABC series ideas in the works already! Plenty more fun to come!! I have to say though this one is a huge favorite for me…I love fun folds! Except for a few letters, I had several ideas/choices for most letters. I tried to use some I hadn’t used before. Could even be a round 2 of fun folds in the future! 🙂 So many ideas, never enough time!! It’s hard to believe I haven’t even been blogging a year yet and already covered 4 alphabet series. I think we will be good for another year of ideas! LOL 🙂 After all, I’ve got 3 more years of my daughter in college which means 3 more years of keeping my mind preoccupied while she’s 10 hours away! Plus this is just so much fun!!!!

Can’t wait to see the remaining Fun Folds. While I often pin designs of cards I like, I don’t often actually CASE them, but you have inspired me to use Fun Folds on 6 recent cards, one after another. Loving this series!!!
