L is for a Lever Fun Fold with Butterfly Basics

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series.  Today I have a Lever Card for you. Spring is in the air and we released our butterflies at school today.  My Pre-K students love this every year!  We’ve watched them change from caterpillars to butterflies and now it was time to let them go. I was drawn to the Butterfly Basics stamp set for my fun fold card today.

I decided to use one of the new In Colors, Lemon Lime Twist, to go with the letter of the day.  I really didn’t think I was going to like this color but, after pairing it with black with last month’s Paper Pumpkin and now with Dapper Denim, it is really growing on me. I think sometimes it just takes the right color combination.  I often get asked how I choose the colors.  Most of the time I get my inspiration from clothing, bedding, home decor, magazines, HGTV, or our Designer Series Paper packs. For this card I chose the colors from the Eastern Palace Designer Series Paper.  I love the way the paper packs have the coordinating colors printed right on the pack.  Makes it so easy!  I used the DSP to cut my butterfly from the Butterflies Thinlits. I cut another butterfly from vellum using the Bold Butterfly Framelits and adhered the two with glue dots.

Then I pulled the colors from the DSP to make the card.  The card base is Lemon Lime Twist cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and scored at 4 1/4.  I cut a piece of 5 x 6 Very Vanilla for the inside and scored it at 2 and 4.  I used the Layering Squares Framelits to cut a square out of the front of my card.

I also used the Layering Squares Framelits to cut 3 squares the colors of my butterfly.  I stamped the top layer using the fern from the Butterfly Basics Stamp Set and Lemon Lime Twist Ink. I stamped the inside and front of my card using sentiments from this set and Dapper Denim Ink.

Next, I applied adhesive to the back of the inside sentiment panel only and adhered it to the inside of the card.  Then I closed the card and applied adhesive just where the inside piece peeks through the front and attached the layered squares inside the square.

I attached the butterfly with some glue dots and added a few rhinestones. This card sits nice on a desk or shelf.  I also like that there’s a nice panel to sign the card.

Here’s a short video showcasing the Butterfly Basics and Butterfly Thinlits Dies. *This is an older video.  She uses the magnetic plate and wax paper to cut out the butterfly die.  I highly recommend the Precision Base Plate and the thin die adapter.  I was able to cut my butterfly out easily just running it through the Big Shot once.  Much easier with better results!!!

She made some adorable cards with this stamp set and dies and you can too!  If you would like to purchase any of the materials I used on my card today, please Click HERE to visit my online store.

Oh wait, L is for loopy as now I think I see how it works – I was thinking something was missing but by jove I think I got it – but will have to try it sometime to make sure! Too much going on here and in my little brain. Anyway, this card is amazing!

  6. I made the card and it turned out good but, how do you keep the inside of the card from pulling the design through the hole in the front of the card? Did you tape it some how?
