C is for Criss Cross Card

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series.  Today’s fun fold is a criss cross card.  There are several ways you can do this card and I will share another option with you.

I absolutely love the new Delightful Daisy Suite! Stampin’ Up! does the best job coordinating stamp sets with punches (or dies), DSP, ribbon, and embellishments. The Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper has gorgeous prints with a subtle ombre look. While I can’t share images from the new catalog just yet, I can share with you a picture I took of the display board from OnStage.

I love these flower prints and I love that the DSP is double sided so even if you aren’t crazy about one print you can use the other side. And it’s so nice that every paper pack has the coordinating cardstock colors labeled so it takes the guess work away and you can get right to creating.  I chose Night of Navy to go with the DSP I used today.  I found the directions to make the criss cross card fun fold design several years ago from Splitcoast Stampers. Here’s the detail how I made today’s card…

I started with a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 Night of Navy cardstock and cut it in half so I would have 2 pieces measuring 4 1/4 x 11.  I scored each piece at 5 1/2.  Then I took one piece and cut it diagonally from the score line to the bottom left. Then I cut the other piece from the score line to the bottom right.

Glue both pieces together making sure the diagonally sections are on the bottom.

Next I cut a piece of 4 x 5 1/4″ DSP in half diagonally. (*Tip: It is best to put your cutting blade in the center and cut up and down rather than try to cut from the points.) Flip one piece over and adhere both to the card base. (*The photo below is showing the back view of the card so you can see both pieces.)

Now comes the point where you have options.  You can choose to make this a pocket style card by adding Tear &Tape along the bottom middle section and adhere the top flap closed or you can make a belly band to slide off and open the card.  The choice is up to you.

Either way you need to stamp the inside piece.  I used the new gorgeous 3/8″ Mini Chevron Ribbon to make a belly band. This ribbon is so soft and easy to tie.  The chevron pattern is very subtle. My Whisper White cardstock measures 4 x 5 1/4.  I stamped the sentiment from the Daisy Delight Stamp Set (available June 1st) in Night of Navy Ink. (Make sure you stamp or write below the criss cross opening on the front. See the photo above.  I only wanted “Thank You” to show in the opening.)   I stamped off the daisy stamp then stamped it twice (overlapping the petals) to create a fuller flower. I stamped the center of the daisy in Daffodil Delight Ink. I wanted to get a subtle washed look like the DSP so I took my blender pen while the ink was still a little wet and blended the ink out from the center.

You still have room to write a little message below or if you choose to make it a pocket style card you can write a message on the back of this piece.  I love to stamp my envelopes to match. It really ties it all together and adds that extra special touch.

  1. Winner-winner chicken dinner!!! You are so good at fun fold cards – you sure do know how to go out of that box….I am sure that tomorrow will be a DYNAMITE post for the letter “D”

  2. Ditto for tomorrow kiddo! To think I thought “C” meant for Chris all these years! Hey, wasn’t somebody expecting me to say that? I haven’t made this folded card in a long time and I am not sure why not. It is fun to make and easy enough. I will put it on my list of things to do this week – just because I can and that you reminded me of it! I know I made some at Christmas a few years ago using this fold showing casing fun papers. But, anytime is a good time and why not use some fun flowers and paper! Thanks for a great reminder Jeanie. Have a happy weekend with your daughter home and celebrating Mother’s Day. Somehow, I don’t think it is in Teddy’s plans other than to take a walk!

    1. C is for Chris too!! This was one of the first fun folds I made when I first started stamping. I remember making a 50th birthday card for a friend. I was so proud of it! Fun Folds don’t have to be complicated and I really enjoy showing how simple they really are. It’s fun to give the unexpected once in awhile. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Forgot about this particular fun fold design…Like Chris said, time to get busy with it! I, too, am in love with the Delightful Daisy Suite, and I must say, your picture of the board from On Stage gives a much better representation of the papers than the way SU prints them in the catalog. Adorable card with the interior stamping and the matching envelope.
    Have a great Mother’s Day!

    1. Thanks Linda! I wish I took photos of all the DSP boards! It does highlight the coordinating colors so well too! You have a Happy Mother’s Day too! And enjoy your time with your grandson!!

  4. A very delightful card! Screams Spring and I love the DSP. You rocked this fold!

  5. C is for CREATIVE ! Not only did you do a great Fold Card ,but I love how you did your pretty blue daisy !! I like this dsp and that punch ,but was thinking I could bypass the stamps . BUT after seeing what you did with your stamps and how pretty that blue daisy looks with the slight faded look I guess I am adding the stamps .
Loving your ALPHABET SERIES !! I went back and looked at all the others that you have done and I was playing with the one 6×6 dsp that you showed how to do a card and envelope flap with it.. FUN !

    1. Thanks Sonny! I am so glad you checked out the ABC’s with DSP…perfect for you who loves paper as much as I do. I enjoyed showing ways to cut your paper to get the most out of it!

  6. Finally home from spending precious time with our new granddaughter and catching up on all the fun i missed…so had to say thank you for all the pictures and tips. You make it easier than I’ve ever seen! And yes, I’m loving that beautiful paper and bundle. Definitely on my wish list. Fun, fun series.
