B is for Bridge Fun Fold

Welcome to my ABC’s with Fun Folds series. Today I am sharing a new fold (new to me at least) called the bridge fold.  Linda Heller shared this fold created by Debbi Muche.  This is a fun card that can stand up on a desk. My version uses the High Tide Stamp Set (which I absolutely love).

I had a request to make a card for someone that is going through chemo. I think the sentiments in this stamp set are perfect for encouragement and support!

High Tide Stamp Set

The bridge fold is quick & easy to make (just the way I like it)!  Start with a piece of cardstock that measures 4 1/4 x 8.  Score at 1 1/4, 2 1/2, 5 1/2, and 6 3/4.

Fold and crease the score lines so you have the shorter ends in the front and the larger panel set back.  I chose By the Shore Designer Series Paper to use on my panels but you could easily use the stamps in the set to create your own watery background. I cut 2 pieces of DSP at 1 x 4 and 1 at 2 3/4 x 4.  I wanted my panels to look like one continuous flow so I started with a 6 x 4 piece and cut them in order to line up across the panel.

I stamped the center panel using Basic Black and Dapper Denim ink. I cut a 1 x 5 1/2 strip of Crumb Cake and stamped it using Sahara Sand ink. I fussy cut along the top part of the strip. I used Fast Fuse just on the ends and adhered this strip to the panel.  The lighthouse is two step stamping.  This is a photopolymer stamp set which makes it easy to see and do. First I stamped the outline in Real Red ink on Shimmery White cardstock.  Then I stamped the details in Basic Gray ink and fussy cut it out.  I used foam adhesive strips just along the bottom and side to pop up the lighthouse. I love how it turned out! It even folds flat to fit in the envelope to mail!

Linda Heller’s version used the new Daisy Delight stamp set, Daisy Punch, and Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper (available June 1st).  I CASEd her design (with a few changes) to make this birthday card for my friend, Caroline.

These are so much fun to make and the possibilities are endless.  My mind is racing with more card ideas I want to make using this fold! If you decide to give this fold a try I would love to see what you create.  Email me a photo (j.stark@myactv.net).

  1. Beautiful background, I love that sheet of DSP you used for the water. Another great folding idea. It is great that you can put it in an envelope to mail. Wouldn’t it be fun to use some actual sand or maybe some type of spice to give the sand some texture? The red really makes the light house pop. I think I am going to have to try this sometime. I like the daisy one you cased it from as well.

  2. I’m so inspired by your new Alphabet Series and it’s only Day 2!! Love both these cards–will have to CASE the lighthouse one for my brother. (He’s in love with the lighthouses on the Outer Banks) and I plan on using whatever designs you come up with going forward for my 2 1/2 year old grandson who has been taking Mommy and Daddy’s cards to “read” to his stuffed menagerie (although what the 3 foot dinosaur, a Very Hungry Caterpillar and a purple Teddy get out of Urban Underground or Flourishing Phrases cards is beyond me…) So now I send him his own interactive card each week. Thanks for helping me with some new ideas for this special recipient! You rock!

    1. Oh Linda, your brother and I have something in common… I love touring lighthouses and have been to all but 1 on the Outer Banks! Next trip I hope to visit that one too! I actually have a photo collage of many of the different lighthouses around the US and Canada that we have toured. It needs to be updated! I think part of the intrigue is their location…by the sea..it’s where I want to be!!!
I hope you are taking some pictures of your grandson “reading” the cards to his “friends”. I made several mini scrapbooks for my daughter when she was little and every day she wanted to “read” them. It was adorable!!! Do you scrapbook too?

  3. B is for BEAUTIFUL !! I love this stamp set ,especially the seagulls flying over the water . BUT I do not have it Yes I loved Linda`s card also and put it in the Favorites File when I saw it Sunday !
Guess I need to bite the bullet and get this set . Why of course I already have that beautiful DSP !!
Your card is so special . I just love it !

  4. Great card….the DSP works so well with it. Surely it will bring a smile to someone!

  5. Love love love your new series!

Just finished casing your accordion card for my mom with the Birthday Bouquet DSP with a little Blushing Bride glimmer paper dragonflies thrown in for good measure 🙂

I’m a few days behind but hope to replicate all your wonderful ideas

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  6. Thank you Carmen for your kind words! I am so glad you are inspired to create! I love the dragonflies too and I bet they look beautiful with the glimmer paper. I appreciate you taking the time to comment! I love fun folds and enjoy sharing this series!

  7. Thanks for this incredibly beautiful and needful card! I also have loved ones that are battling cancer and this the perfect card for them. Thanks again. Jackie Clark

  8. Oh Jackie, I’m so sorry your loved ones are battling this awful disease! I know when my friend was battling cancer she shared how much the cards I sent meant to her. It is amazing how a simple gesture can make such a difference in the lives of others.
