It’s no secret that I love to emboss! Embossing is a quick and easy way to add texture. Did you know you can use your dies to emboss? This is a great way to stretch your supplies and use dies you already have. I used the Star Framelits to do the Embossed Impressions Technique on my cards today.
Just like embossing folders you can highlight either side to get two different looks.
To make the embossed impression, you use the Big Shot like you would use any Embossing Folder. Make a “sandwich” with the cutting plate, add an embossing mat (I used 2 pieces of craft foam), then cardstock, dies (taped together) with cutting side down, and cutting plate on top.
I love this technique as it makes a big impression on a background. I die cut the congrats from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits and adhered it with Glue Dots. The sentiment I used is from B.Y.O.P. This stamp set is on the retiring list and is a MUST HAVE! It is so versatile and has great sentiments for giving money or gift cards for birthdays, thank you, wedding, baby, and/or graduation.
I masked and heat embossed the sentiment. I used white embossing powder on the Pacific Point cardstock and clear embossing powder on white cardstock. You can heat emboss any color sentiment using the Clear Embossing Powder. Simply ink your stamp in VersaMark first, then in the ink color of your choice before stamping it on your cardstock. (I only wanted part of the sentiment on my stamp so I “masked” what I didn’t want by covering it with tape so the ink would not transfer to my paper.) Sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder, remove the excess, then watch the magic happen as you use the Heat Tool.
I cut a piece of craft foam 3 3/4 x 5 and adhered that behind my embossed layer to pop it up. Which look do you like best?

Your projects always leave a big impression on me!! (Not just being ‘punny’–I mean it; I learn so much from all your posts) Love both cards but am partial to the blue one. Haven’t tried this technique but have seen it before and wondered exactly how it was done. And heaven knows I have the world’s supply of framelets and dies. Time to get busy~Thanks for spurring on my creativity!
Linda you are so good for my self esteem! These are for an order I have for 8 graduation cards and I am always nervous when I make them for someone else to give.
Oh my gosh Jeanie, I LOVE this technique!!! My favorite is the white one. Now lets see, who is graduating….. I totally have to CASE it. Off to try to make the technique work! Well…. I guess I better do the things on the list for today before I get to play!
I actually have an order for 8 graduation cards in particular school colors. She was very specific that she did not want the year on them so this is a start to her order. 🙂

I get it! I too had been wanting to try this for awhile. I watched several of Jennifer McGuire’s videos. It really is easier than it looks! I tried it with words too! I love that we get more use from our dies this way! It looks really great with the stitched shapes framelits!

You have left an imprint on my life! I didn’t even remember that I had these stars until I was digging in my boxes I have for framelits and EF folders. Ta da – there is was! Oh yes, I vaguely remember the group I belong to we each bought some items for holiday cards and that was one I was assigned to buy. It was fun using everyone’s stuff and getting lots of different cards made. Anyway, I guess I had better try this sometime soon! I don’t think I have any graduation cards due, at least nobody sent me a notice they were graduating or however they do it these days. Anyway, I like both versions but the white one seems to be a bit more stellar! FUN!

Oh Sonny, I love your daughter’s name! This would make the perfect card for her! I also agree about 4th of July but I don’t send out 4th of July cards, do you? I always make favors as we have a party/cookout every year. My wedding anniversary is July 5th and our rehearsal dinner was on the 4th. I always joked I couldn’t get married on Independence Day! We did have a wonderful celebration with fireworks and fun! I love to celebrate the 4th every year. It’s a coincidence that was the date I started this blog (I should clarify and say the day my daughter set it up)…getting close to my first blog anniversary! Woo Hoo!
