Hip Hip Hooray…It’s A Happy Day!

My daughter is home for the summer! Her first year of college went by fast! The last three days have been rough but, thanks to my wonderful husband who drove 24 hours through torrential downpours, everyone is happy to be home safe and sound (and drying out)! I had a few of her favorite things waiting for her when she arrived.

There were fresh flowers in her bedroom along with a little gift wrapped in her favorite colors. I like to decorate the bags to go with gifts.  In this particular case I also wanted to cover up the design that was on the bag. I enjoy recycling bags and this one was especially fun!  I attached a slide out tag right on the bag.

This is a fun way to give a gift and card. I used many retiring items to make today’s project.  The good news is they are still available and on sale from 30% – 50% off!! I started with a piece of Whisper White cardstock and embossed it using the Confetti Embossing Folder (on sale for 50% off while supplies last).  I adhered it to the front of the bag and added 1/4″ strips of silver foil. I love the Party Pop-Up Thinlits Dies and was sad to see it on the retirement list.  I cut the thinlit from a piece of Wisteria Wonder (my daughter’s favorite color).  The thinlit is intended to be used on the inside of a card to pop up when opened so it doesn’t cut out completely.  I just used my paper snips to cut the sides.

I cut a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock to layer behind and used the Project Life Corner Rounder to round the corners. I attached it with glue dots then popped it up with foam adhesive strips along 3 sides. Leave the end open for the tag to slide in and out.

I embossed the pull out tag with the Confetti Embossing Folder before stamping the sentiment from the Perfectly Wrapped Stamp Set.  I stapled a piece of Bermuda Bay stitched ribbon to use to pull the tag. It slides in and out easily!

Think of all the different sentiments you could use on this tag to go with this die cut…It works for graduation, birthday, promotion, sporting events, etc.  I added some organza ribbon and silver sequin trim to the bag to finish it off! (Both of these items are retiring.) Do you wonder what was inside the bag?  A candle in her favorite scent…lilac.  I added some ribbon the the jar and stamped the perfect banner to attach to the jar.

Here’a few photos of my daughter opening her gift.

I hope I have inspired you to reuse those gift bags.  There’s so many ways to just add paper and get a whole new look.  One of my favorite quick & easy ways is to adhere a clear envelope to the bag and slide your card right in the sleeve.  You can purchase the products used to make today’s project from my online store. Retiring items are available while supplies last.

  1. You are such a good Mom! The flowers and the bag are so beautiful and color coordinated with her room! Have a GREAT day with your daughter!!!!

  2. How sweet of you to welcome her home after a horrible ride with a cozy gift decorated so special! I usually welcomed mine with a hug and a laundry basket for her dirty clothes! Haha! Love the use of the pop up thinlet die as a tag. Thanks for sharing!

  3. What a nice surprise for her when she got home. My lilacs are blooming now and smell for luscious!! I love to repurpose bags and love how you did yours. So pretty. Have a wonderful Sunday.

  4. Congratulations, Momma on surviving your daughter’s first year away at school…the first is always the worst. Such a thoughtful way to welcome her home. Love the way you recycled the gift bag.
