The inspiration for my card today came from the beautiful spring wreath my sister made me for my birthday.  We celebrated a little early this year and I couldn’t wait to hang it on my front door.

I love the way she personalized my wreath with the big monogrammed letter.  To recreate this beautiful wreath, I used the Large Letter Framelits to cut the letter S from Daffodil Delight cardstock. I stamped the wreath from Wondrous Wreath in Old Olive and then turned it slightly and stamped it again without reinking. I cut it out with the Wonderful Wreath Framelits. I punched flowers from Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight cardstock using the Tree Builder Punch and Wonderful Wreath Framelits.  I curled the flowers using the end of my stylus to give them some dimension. I added a little Pear Pizzazz ink to the center of the yellow flowers using my blender pen.  I used the Everyday Jar Framelits to cut some stems from Always Artichoke and Old Olive  cardstock to add some more greenery to my wreath.  I popped up the wreath and monogram with Stampin’ Dimensionals and attached the greenery and flowers with glue dots.img_0087

My sister has made me several wreaths before and every year a bird builds a nest in our wreath and lays eggs. This wreath came complete with a bird and eggs so perhaps we will get to use our front door this year.  I made my nest with linen thread and just wrapped it around my finger and attached it with glue dots.  The “eggs” are punched from the Tree Builder Punch.  I tucked the tips of the “leaves” into the nest so you just see the rounded end.  I used Melon Mambo Thick Bakers Twine and Old Olive Bakers Twine to make my bow and attached it with a glue dot.

My card base is a 4 1/4″ square from Sahara Sand cardstock.  I cut a 4″ square and scored it at 1/2″ on all four sides using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool. I like the way the scoring highlights and frames the wreath.  I used the Envelope Punch Board to make a matching custom envelope for my card. The Envelope Punch Board (133774) is one of my favorite tools and it’s a bargain for just $20! Not only is is so easy to use to make custom envelopes but it also makes great treat holders and other 3D items. Check out this video and see just how easy it is to use!

Another favorite of mine is embossing folders…they make it quick and easy to add depth and texture.  I used the Floral Affection Embossing Folder to add some texture and fun to the envelope flap.

  1. Your wreath card is stunning! As I said yesterday, one of my favorite things about your blog is how you tie in your cards with other things. I am so glad you love your birthday present. It looks great on your front door. Love the yellow, too. Thanks for the inspiration to use your favorite color.

    1. You are the talent behind the wreath! I love that it has my favorite color..it makes me smile. I may have to move it on to the inside of the door so I get to see it more!!!

  2. How pretty ! You did a great job making a duplicate card of that glorious wreath ! That actual wreath is just beautiful ! Your card is also !!

  3. Well, talent definitely runs in the family! Your sister’s wreath is fabulous! Your card is a mini fabulous wreath!!! I love how you used the Tree Builder Punch for the elements of your wreath. Very clever! What a great way to usher in Spring!!!

    1. Of course as soon as I put up my spring wreath we get snow!! LOL

I always try to use current product for my blog even though I have many retired punches (can’t part with my punches!!!) that would work. Before I started my blog I would get frustrated when I saw something I wanted to make but couldn’t buy it because it was no longer available. I’m always up for a challenge so when I could’t pull out my Itty Bitty Flower punch (LOVE IT!!!) I looked for what else I could use. Love that I found my “eggs” on the same punch! I love that punches make it quick & easy to create!

  4. Beautiful, vibrant colors! Your card is the perfect compliment to your sister’s beautiful wreath!

    1. Thank you Mary Ann! I love receiving handmade gifts as much as I love to give them. My home is filled with gifts from over the years and I am always thinking about the gift giver when I look at them. Speaking of gifts…I finally got together with Susan and got my beautiful tasty truck! Thank you so much! It is even more adorable in person!

  5. OH MY GOODNESS…. Your card is so beautiful and your wreath is so breathtaking!!!

    1. WOW! Thank you! You made my day (and I bet my sister’s too)!!! I live on a cul de sac and my driveway is before you would see the front of the house so I drive around the cul de sac to look at the wreath then drive up the driveway. LOL If any of my neighbors see me they probably think I’m crazy!!! It does stand out from the road! I love that it is so bright and cheery! Have a great day and thanks for taking the time to comment!

  6. BEAUTIFUL, Jeanie!! Love it so much. What a nice sister you have to make the wreath for you. How great to have that colorful wreath greet you and your guests. It really puts me in the spring mood.

    1. Thanks HJ! I love spring and look forward to longer days, sunshine, and knowing summer (and vacation) is on the way! My sister and I have birthdays 2 days apart. When we were kids we always wanted our own day to celebrate but now we really enjoy when we can get together and celebrate our birthdays. (We live 7 hours apart!) I was able to spend some time with her when I visited recently for my niece’s wedding.

  7. Of COURSE your card is beautiful, but so are your detailed and clear explanations. You are the BEST at conveying all pertinent info. I absolutely love your design and am so grateful that you took the time to “show and tell”. Once a teacher….!

    1. Thanks Linda! I appreciate the feedback. You make me smile! I always love it when others include dimensions… it saves time (and paper) trying to guess. Fridays are always “show and tell” day in my classroom. 🙂

  8. Jeanie, your card is so beautiful. I love it. You are amazing. I could not find a place to put comments, do I just replied to your email, hugs,Ellen Hinds

  9. This card is stunning. What a great card.. I can relate to the bird and babies… I made a wreath for my mom and the same thing happened… mother bird made a nest and there were babies there one day… it was awesome to see…

    1. I agree it is awesome to see! Just not fun when can’t use the front door. I had to email my guests one night telling them to please come around to the back door so they wouldn’t get attacked by mommy bird! LOL I love that we have always had a glass door so we could see from the house without disturbing the eggs or babies.

    1. Thank you so much! I love it when my sister makes me a new wreath. I don’t do flowers! She has a talent for all kinds of floral arrangements and centerpieces. I am blessed she is so giving with her talent!

  10. I love the card as much as the wreath and I REALLY like the wreath! Yep, talent runs in your family. Maybe Susan can take a photo of the front of your house so we can get the full impact of the wreath on the door. Speaking of Susan, I see you have used her embossed lines on the card which is so much fun and I forget to do it. I also love the embossing folder used on the envelope flap – that is such a fun touch. Well, I gotta act like the Easter bunny and hop along.

  11. Wow, Jeanie….you absolutely replicated that beautiful wreath on paper. I love wreaths and both of yours are so pretty. Both you and your sister did a great job….must run in the family! I was wondering about those sweet little flowers and would never have though to look at the Tree Builder punch…I will now!

  12. What a gorgeous wreath and a stunning card! I’m so impresssed with how you used it as inspiration to create the card. Your bird nest is my favorite part. We have jenny wrens that build on our porch each summer but usually in my plants.
