W is for Watercolor Pencils

Welcome to my alphabet series showcasing some of the new products in the 2017 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs.Today I am showcasing the Watercolor Pencils. This is my favorite new item in the Occasions catalog!  I was so excited when I saw them featured on page 24 and couldn’t wait to get my hands on these! I shared previously a couple of projects I made using these.  You can see those projects HERE or HERE .  For this sweet Valentine card I used the watercolor pencils with the blender pen to color a heart cut from a piece of Inside the Lines Designer Series Paper.  You can get this paper for Free with a qualifying order during Sale-A-Bration (Jan. 4 – March 31).

My card base is 4 1/4 x 8 1/4 scored at 5 1/2.  The Designer Series Paper is from the Sending Love Paper Stack in the Occasions catalog. It is cut at 4 x 2 1/2.  I cut another piece at 2 1/4 x 6 to line the back of the envelope.

The inside panel is a piece of 4 x 5 1/4 red cardstock.  I used the heart framelits (retired) to cut the 4 different sized hearts but you could do the same thing with the Sweet & Sassy Framelits (I wish I had those!!!). I used the Sealed with Love Stamp Set to stamp the sentiments in real red ink. I popped the watercolored layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals and tucked the smaller heart behind. I added some Pearl Basic Jewels to the flowers and a white organza bow on top of the heart. This Valentine is ready to send!

In case you missed the video showcasing all the wonderful ways you can use these watercolor pencils you can watch it here.

These watercolor pencils have been so popular that they are currently out of stock! Oh no! Stampin’ Up! is expecting to get a large shipment in mid February. I love the way these pencils are Stampin’ Up! colors so they coordinate with our other products!

  1. Hi Jeanie, I love the cut of this card. I’m so happy I have a few more to make and will be CASEn this one for sure. I’ll be getting my SU order on February 7th. That still gives me a week to make some more Valentines. I’ll have to mail those only to my local relatives. I do send out about 15-20 cards and I’m doing much better than I did with Christmas.
    Have a great weekend.
    🙂

    1. Good for you Nancy on getting those Valentines’ done! I still have to make my cards for my students. I have family ones done! 🙂 I am usually very last minute so this is good for me. LOL

  2. Jeanie, You have hit it out of the park again!!!!! So very clever! After seeing the beautiful front I couldn’t wait to see the inside. I knew there would a beautiful something inside! Great use of the Inside the Lines DSP! Does is behave better than our regular whisper white when colored? Looks like it does! Beautiful job!

    1. Ramsey, I have not had any problems with the watercolor pencils using the blender pen on whisper white. I love using the shimmery white if I use the aqua painters and ink to watercolor. I have not tried the watercolor pencils with the aqua painter yet…I find the blender pen so easy with these and that was what we played with at convention that sold me…so easy!

  3. I am loving the new WC pencils too ! I am so in hopes that SU will continue to add the remaining colors . Your card is adorable !! I went to look at your creations with the SAB Inside The Lines DSP !
Guess you know what will be my next order ! I like your using it for case covers !! How smart you are !!
As I said I look at VERSATILITY ! I could not justify this choice by that criteria …..well it passes the test for sure now !
Thank you for the cute Alphabet Series . It is FUN !

    1. I am hoping SU comes out with more colors for the watercolor pencils too!!! We think alike Sonny! I am glad you like the alphabet series…I helps to keep me focused on what to do each day. THis is actually my 3rd alphabet series…the first one was a great starting point with lots of information about basic stamping and tips for the products. My second series was ABC’s with DSP…lots of ideas how to cut your paper to make the most of it and different layout ideas using DSP. I was so love with this occasions catalog that I knew I could do a whole series on it!!! I have some thoughts for future series too! You can access each series in the category section on my blog (or the search). 🙂

  4. Wow….great card! Love how you did the front cut and your coloring is superb! Way to go Jeanie!

    1. Thanks Mary Ann! It’s all the watercolor pencils and blender pen… couldn’t be any easier! I have always wished I could draw and paint (but never considered myself that great at it). Thanks for making my day!!! The layering hearts is one that I saw on Pinterest years ago and made for my daughter (in purple of course). This card is a remake of that adding the watercolor aspect. I don’t remember who did the original idea that I CASEd years ago. It was long before I started blogging so I never kept track of that stuff. I am more careful now to make sure I give credit when I CASE or am inspired by others creativity. Hopefully I have changed it up enough though it was definitely inspired by someone else! Have a great weekend!
P.S. I put your card tin in the mail today!

  5. Like the layering of the hearts- We are on the road… What time does your company arrive? It is so cold! Have you heard from Twig recently?

  6. This card is just screaming FUN!!! Yes, in my book cards can scream as well as the hearts. I love this card plus you were able to color too which makes it all the more fun! Ted is making all kinds of noises downstairs – if I am smart I will cut this short and see what he is up to. Trust me, I am smarter than I look!

    1. Screaming hearts, Oh my! Sounds like a scary film! LOL There’s nothing scary about these watercolor pencils…couldn’t be any easier! Even I look like I know what I’m doing and I am not an artist! I find it not only fun but very relaxing to color. 🙂
      Hope Ted is OK! ???

  7. Great Card! One I may have to CASe! Thank you for sharing. The ‘Watercolor Pencils’ were my #1 item to order too! I love them! Blessings to you!

  8. Catching up on blogs from being gone for the weekend so hope you still take comments! I love this card. I’ve got all my Valentines made this year but will sure be CASing this one next year! Great card, fun design!

    1. Thank you Susan! I understand and do the same thing with catching up on blogs! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment! I still have a few more Valentine cards to make. For Christmas I send everyone the same card but for Valentine’s Day I love to make different cards so everyone’s is special. Have fun creating!
