Stampin Up Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits calendar card ideas - Jeanie Stark StampinUp

Welcome to my alphabet series showcasing some of the new products in the 2017 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs. Today I’m showcasing Dragonfly Dreams. This is already one of the most popular new items and I can see why!  It is so easy to create a quick and simple card with the Detailed Dragonfly Dies and some DSP. I used different dies, sentiments, and Designer Series Paper on each of these calendar cards.

The sentiment is from the Designer Tee Stamp Set which you can get FREE with a $50 purchase during Sale-A-Bration.  There are 10 different stamps in the set. I cut the detailed dragonfly from gold foil and attached vellum behind the wings.

It’s hard to tell in the photo but I added Wink of Stella to the dragonflies.  I masked the sentiment from the Dragonfly Dreams Stamp Set and cut it out with the Layering Circle Framelits. It is quick and easy to stamp masked sentiments with photopolymer stamps!

I watercolored the bees using the new Watercolor Pencils and a blender pen. I cut them out with my paper snips. The calendars are from Taylored Expressions.

I don’t know which one is my favorite.  I love the Detailed Dragonfly Dies!  These calendar cards are made just like a basic card with the addition of a “tent” to make it sturdy to stand up all year long.  To make the tent support, start with a matching piece of cardstock that measures 4 1/4 x 5.  Score at 1, 2 1/2, and 4.  Adhere to the inside of the card.

  1. I like all of them, but the cluster of dragonflies really caught my eye — perhaps it’s the color contrast.

Out of curiosity, why did you use paper snips to cut the bumblebees? Is the thinlit a different size from the stamped image?

    1. The thinlit cuts the bumblebee body including the part I watercolored. You could put paper behind the cut out body and have a layered look but I chose to just stamp then cut it out for this one.

  2. These are fabulous, Jeanie! I almost made a calendar with a dragonfly but didn’t get to it. I certainly will now! If I had to choose, I would say the middle car. They are all gorgeous!

  3. Beautiful cards, Jeanie. The background paper is perfect for each of these. My fav is the green card with the multiple dragonflies. I like the look of them flying off together. Enjoy your Sunday!

  4. These are all SO beautiful it is hard to choose just one. If I were going to case one right now, (which I am sure I will, lol), I would probably make the bee one first. Rest assured, the others will follow in the near future.

  5. Guess what I am making today…..you are such a fabulous enabler! I thought that my calendars were cute….but again, MOVE OVER cause’ Jeanie TRUMPED ME!!!! LOVE, love!!!!

Great post – I am so proud of you and your blog!

  6. These are beautiful Jeanie! Love the gold foil one! I have to order this bundle! Can’t imagine why I did not have it in my very first order!!!! It’s 22 degrees here up form 16! Snow on the ground, well ice now! I am inside playing!!!!

  7. Hi Jeanie, I love all your calendar cards. I have seen other projects with calendar cards, but I think this is about the best, and dare I say the easiest! The two attachments didn’t work for me, so could you let me know the size of the card please? Also how did you stick the calendar onto the card? or will the months have to be taken off very carefully? Another good idea for the local charity/church bazaar craft stalls that I have. Cheers and thankyou very much. Marilyn.

    1. Hi Marilyn! It is easy to make! The card base is 4 1/4 x 11 scored at 5 1/2. I ordered the calendars from Taylored Expressions and they come with a cardboard backing and you just tear off each month. I used Multipurpose Glue to adhere the cardboard back to the card. I hope this answers your questions. I agree that these would be great for your charity/ church bazaar! I hope you raise lots of $! I made another set previously and posted on my blog using the In Colors and flowers. You can check those out too if you want. https://juststampin.com/2016/11/10/wcmd-swap-showcase-part-1/

  8. All the calendars are beautiful, Jeanie. If I had to choose my favorite, it would be the one with the bees and that beautiful DSP. I do love this stamp bundle.

  9. You are amazingly talented!! All of them are beautiful, but the three cut dragonflies popped out to me! My set is coming tomorrow and you have inspired me to dig into it!
